Our attendant, Cammy, was super nice and took great care of us during our meal. We each ordered the "Barbara" cocktail. We usually stay away from "fruity" drinks but this was a great combination of vodka and grapefruit. We stated with the cheese tart which was very tasty although it was smaller than expected so we should've ordered another appetizer. We then had the ravioli di ricotta which was incredible. The sweet peppers really gave the dish an extra kick. We both had the Bavette which was the star of the meal. Steak was cooked perfectly and the sauce gave the vegetables a sweetness that I loved. Located in the heart of downtown, Lupi & Iris is a gorgeous open-kitchen restaurant. I came on a weekday for dinner, and the main dining hall was all filled so we sat at the bar area, which was still lovely. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We started off with the Tarte au Chèvre, which is a baked goat cheese tart with smoked trout, Belgian endive, radicchio, cherry tomato and herb pistou, and the Pulpo a la Plancha, which was wood-grilled to perfection. Both appetizers were a hit! We especially enjoyed the Pulpo a la Plancha because the Spanish octopus paired so well with the Romesco sauce, chickpeas, orange and citrus vinegar. This dish was well-balanced and such a memorable dish. For the main course, we ordered the Magret De Canard and the Bistecca. The Bistecca was a wood-oven roasted 44 oz Angust porterhouse with sauteed mushrooms, cauliflower and potatoes. This entree could easily feed 4 people! I absolutely loved the steak!! Parking was easy (metered street parking) and we were seated as soon as we arrived. Our server was wonderful and our guests loved the ambiance, service, and enjoyed their quiche and hamburger. The cocktails were refreshing and the lunch course is a good deal and a great way to sample 2 or 3 different courses. I had the soup, chicken, and olive oil cake. I liked the flavors and texture but I thought my soup and chicken were overly salty. My husband ordered the Jamon sandwich and said it was "a joke". He said there was one piece of ham, the cheese was dry, the bread was chewy. He felt none of the flavors worked together and he wouldn't order it again. The salad was delicious and I love that it had a slightly jammy hard boiled egg I feel you don't often get an egg unless it's a Cobb salad. Not many places nowadays put out a overall great dining experience. We ordered espresso martinis for our first cocktail and the use the espresso from the coffee shop next door, it was very delicious. There was so much on the menu that we wanted to try so we ended up going with the spring tasting menu to trial 5 dishes. This was perfect. Every dish was so well plated and perfect serving sizes. Been wanting to come here for a while, but you need to be very proactive with reservations. We finally aligned a performance at the Rep with a dinner here. Food: Everything we ordered was outstanding, with one very small exception. We started with a couple of special cocktails. The Piccola Noce, which is similar to an Old Fashioned, was delicious and lasted me the entire meal. The Rilasatti was like a sangria, but the texture was a little too much like punch for my taste. For food, we began with the Coquilles St. Jacques (scallops) and the Pulpo a la Plancha (octopus). For entrees, we had the Pez Espada (swordfish) and the Panisse (vegan chickpea cake). I could go on with details, but that would just make me hungry again. Everything was delicious. Very inventive combinations, thoughtfully plated, perfect temperatures, and nice portions. The one item I must call out is the swordfish. It was the best I have ever had and literally melted in my mouth, not an exaggeration. It came with two pieces. One was more than satisfying, and I could have taken the other home, but I knew it would never be the same reheated. So down it went. We had a little room left for desserts; the Olive Oil Cake, and Flourless Chocolate Cake. A great finish to a great meal! Service: From the moment we arrived until we left two hours later, the service was impeccable. The hosts, servers, and bartenders were professional, helpful, and genuinely nice people. When we arrived, we let our server know that we had a show to attend and needed to leave by 7:30. We ordered all the food up front, and they paced everything perfectly so we walked out at 7:35. The pacing was excellent, and the entire time we felt like we were the only guests there. Thanks, Allison. Atmosphere: I really like how the room is set up. There are tables in the front and rear, with the bar and wine room in the middle, which breaks up the space and makes it feel more intimate. The overhead lighting is stylish and interesting. The tables are spaced nicely. The holiday decorations were attractive. We also noticed later that there is a chef's counter and tables that put you right up close to the kitchen and cooking action. That would be a fun experience and something we would definitely try next time. The entire evening was excellent. They do an outstanding job, and it never feels forced, even though you know a lot of care and effort goes into making it that way. I enjoyed the Oeuf which is fried eggs on a croissant with French ham, Gruyere cheese, roasted tomato and argula. I had the choice of fries or fruit and opted for the decadence of the fries. I requested mayo and the side and was delighted to find it housemade. The sandwich was delicious but definitely needed to be eaten with a fork! We celebrated my girlfriends 30th birthday here and their Director of Catering was super informative and supportive when exploring whether we wanted to do a regular reservation of private dining room. We ended up going with the regular reservation and he was able to accommodate our party no problem. We went on a chillier night so they allowed us to check in our coats and had parking in the lot next to the restaurant at a discounted price ($5) which was great. The meal itself was wonderful. The server and sommelier we had that night was patient and ready to answer all of our questions regarding food and wine. We had a mix of starters, apps, main plates and desserts. For my main course, I had the Costoletta di Vitello, a wood oven roasted veal chop served with anchovy garlic sauce, olive oil potatoes, and roasted cauliflower. My friend and I both ordered the veal, and it was a 10 out of 10. We absolutely loved it. It was tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned, truly one of the best veal dishes I've ever had. Ian also brought us a refreshing orange and ginger ale mocktail while we waited, which was such a thoughtful touch. To end the evening, I enjoyed a 2022 Sauternes dessert wine from Bordeaux, France (Petit Guiraud) that was sweet, smooth, and the perfect finish to the meal. The octopus was good, but fell short of a few other octopuses dishes I've had. The char was a bit heavy and it didn't have the tenderness of some of the other octopus dishes I've come across. Nonetheless, the greens were dressed nicely and the elements on the plate complemented one another. The beef tartare may be one of the best I've ever had. The beef was finely chopped, the seasoning was perfect. It wasn't overcomplicated; it captured the essence of the dish. Before my main course, I tried their squash soup. It was smooth and the Marcona almonds were a lovely addition. It's a great fall menu addition. I ordered the bavette with a side salad for my entree. The salad was light and refreshing, the cook on my steak was perfect and the cut was properly rested. The plate was clean and elegant. My grandmother ordered the seafood risotto. It had bright seafood flavors and the rice was plump and properly cooked. My friend ordered the Brie sandwich. We enjoyed a glass of white wine, a Negroni, and an arancini appetizer before our reservation. The happy hour is fantastic, offering a selection of cocktails, wine, and light snacks. Since we had an early dinner, we lucked out with a beautiful view of the restaurant and got to spend some extra time with our server, Louis, who was incredibly kind and helpful. We ordered a variety of dishes to share, and I've ranked them in order of our favorites: Corzetti: A fan favorite for a reason! The pasta was perfectly al dente, with just the right amount of chew and sauce to pasta ratio. Wood Oven Veal Chop with Anchovy Garlic Sauce: An umami-rich, tender bite after bite--this dish was decadent Olive Oil Cake: Perfect textures and light summer flavors--just the right finish to the meal. Steak Tartare: Great classic dish, but definitely ask for some flaky salt Octopus Salad: Tasty, but I wish it had just a bit more punch in terms of flavor. Arancini: A nice bite-sized appetizer, but expected a bit more in terms of quantity and flavor for the aioli I'm happy to say I finally visited Lupi & Iris, and I'll definitely be back. It is always a five-star, wonderful experience when we dine here. We were celebrating my son's and my birthday and we had such a great time. Our waiter, Ian, could not have been more nicer or accommodating. He definitely deserves an A+. A more knowledgeable waiter you will not find. His suggestions were all spot on. The food was outstanding, as it always is. We have never had anything but amazing food here. The asparagus with the fried egg appetizer is a must. Both my husband and son had pasta dishes: the cavatelli con ragu and the Trofie al Limone which was a lemon pasta. Both were outstanding, according to them. I did try the lemon pasta and wow, was that good. I had the rack of lamb which did not disappoint me. The lamb and sides were so flavorable and truly one of the best meals I've ever had. Now for the desserts. OMG. The desserts lol. I wanted them all. I decided on the pots de crème au caramel. Unreal. You must try it. I am still dreaming of it. My son and I also got a special birthday treat. You will have to dine with them on your birthday to find out what it is. I will tell you it was amazing too. First of all, what a beautiful restaurant!! It was stunning with a large dining area, view into the kitchen, private rooms, and a bar. They had a great wine selection and options. We did everything family style since the pastas come appetizer sized and split 2 apps, 2 pastas, and a main entree was plenty for us 3 girls! The octopus was delicious with a great sauce and cooked very tender. The pastas were probably my favorite both were fresh and hot and tasty. The duck was also delicious and I would get it again! We got the sauce on the side but it does come with a sauce as well! read more
