My ham and cheese croissant was super greasyjust what I needed to help nurse my hangover! This cafe is a few doors down from the Anne Frank House and the perfect spot to grab a coffee and a pastry to go so you'll have something to snack on while waiting in line.

just how good can a cookie be? and they only sell one type…read moreof cookie? and there's always a queue out through the door? having not been back to amsterdam for years, i decided to brave a trip there to find out since it came highly recommended by folks in sg and was also confirmed to be good by my dutch yelper(ex) friend, kim! easily accessible location, guided there by friendly local, only threatening skies and a feeble rain dampened the mood slightly on our walk there. nonetheless, spotting a not so long queue strengthened our spirit and lengthened our strides. the queue was also pretty quick with many friendly counter staff waiting to greet and meet you! in any case, the only real decision you need to make is how many piece(s) you would like to have! and then how you want it packed? i merely chose the max number that the pretty tin box can fit, easy, peasy. easy reheating instruction was also included. then just pay and go or have one cookie on the spot? it will definitely hit the spot! even though the cookies have travelled with me half the world for more than half a day, a quick pop in the oven brought it back to glory. even crispier on the outside and yet still as moist and baby soft within! one bite and you will be convinced to traverse back there again! although i still cannot pronounce your name, what i can is remember your game!

Amazing flavor cookie shop. It has an amazing chocolatey outside with a melting gooey white…read morechocolate inside. Every bite is delicious and unforgettable. I wish I bought some to bring back to NYC. Will definitely try to make dupes of these delicious gooey soft cookies. Service is fast, grab and go. They fill your order while you're paying. Inside is very factory like. Line to order and grab and go. But I loved watching them making the cookies through the windows. Very cute experience and cookies were delicious.

Dear tired and weary tourist, some advice the locals know: after accumulating enough "I did this,…read morethis and this points" in the city, with feet screaming at you from the long lines and tedious trudging through the Van Gogh and Anne Franke crowds--both well worth the effort I might add--treat yourself to some downtime and real Amsterdam here. It only takes one stop, one bite into their delicious bread, one sip of their espresso drinks, a bit of time in the inviting outdoor seats and you're hooked. Don't even bother trying to fight it. This place has "I want to hang out here and enjoy the day" written all over it. The people dining here are happy, engaged in conversation, enjoying their time. You can't design this kind of experience and it can't be bottled and resold at chains. It's part right venue, part hiring the right people, part mishap, an awful lot of food talent, and non-stop training and attitude. The space is just odd and awkward enough--three business fronts with walls partially removed to make one--to be endearing. Ah, but the food! The bread here is sublime. A simple sandwich with nothing more than chorizo and a bit of butter was something to marvel. How can I get one of those into my backpack for the flight back to the U.S., eschewing that horrible fare they serve on planes? A baguette to go we enjoyed bits of for several hours. The egg dishes and salads from our dining companions, so good! The espresso drinks expertly poured. The salads so beautiful and delicious we're headed there for a mid-morning brunch several public transport stops away in spite of plenty of closer options. Bakhuys makes you happy while serving you delicious food in a space you instantly adore. Get here. You'll be glad I told you so.

Definitely the most popular spot for breakfast in the area! Prepare yourself to wait in line around…read morebreakfast time, but it's worth the wait. There are two entrances next to each other, so check out both sides as one side is more sandwiches and bread and the other side is more of the "barrista" coffee bar side. Fantastic fresh croissants and delicious "broodje" sandwiches. The small pizzas are excellent. Had a wonderful and flaky almond croissant. Great coffee. Decent prices. Fun people watching if you can snag an outside table. There's a lot of inside seating as well, but it does get very popular. The crowd quiets down in the early afternoon.

Winkel 43 is a legendary stop right on the corner of Westerstraat and Noordermarkt in the Jordaan,…read moreperfectly situated along the Prinsengracht canals and just a short walk from the Anne Frank House. While it functions as a cozy, traditional Dutch brown café, virtually everyone comes here for one main reason: the famous Dutch apple pie (*appeltaart*). It completely lives up to the reputation. Served warm with a massive dollop of fresh whipped cream, it's thick, perfectly spiced, and has an almost cake-like crust that sets it apart. Pairing a slice with a fresh mint tea is pretty much mandatory. Because of its status and location, it's almost always buzzing with people--especially on market days--but the staff manages the perpetual queue remarkably fast. Snagging a table on the outdoor terrace for some people-watching along the canal is hard to beat. Whether you're taking visitors around the neighborhood or just out exploring the Jordaan.

There was a long line and a pretty long wait when we went. The place was fully packed, with both…read moreindoor and outdoor seating. I'd say about 95% of the people were ordering the apple pie, so of course we had to get one to see what the hype was about. The apple pie is pretty unique, it's basically a big chunk of cooked apple topped with a sweet, crumbly cookie like crust. The flavor reminded me of those little brown biscuits you get as airplane snacks... basically Biscoff cookies. lol!!! Overall, you really taste the natural apple flavor along with that Biscoff like cookie flavor. The pie itself isn't very sweet, which I actually liked, but adding some whipped cream definitely brings up the sweetness and makes it even better. The setup is pretty straightforward: get in line, order and pay, pick up your food, then find your own seat. It's definitely a popular spot, so be prepared for the crowd and a bit of a wait.
