    Latte & croissant

Great location right near the Rijksmuseum. We got there at 9, but the kitchen wasn't open until til 9:30, so we just ordered coffee and a croissant. Both were amazing. Very friendly staff. The first floor is small inside, but they have upstairs seating, and patio space for better weather.

"Bittersweet memories" I came to this cafe after a recommendation from a kind security guard. It was raining and dark outside as I was cold, hungry and in need of WiFi while waiting for my uncle to pick me up after visiting the Rijks museum with my brother. Initially we were denied entry by a man near the door. He claimed that there was no space for 2 but I guess later changed his mind after I asked if I could at least sit outside. My brother thought the waitress was rude but I didn't think so as some Dutch people I know can be quite blunt. Another man escorted me to the restroom upstairs where the classier people seemed to be, and I enjoyed the courtesy. (Added to edit: I found out this man is the owner! That surely explains his professionalism and good hospitality) The hot chocolate was nice and I like how it came with a cookie. I wish I had ordered a meal, but I didn't think I'd have time to finish it. The apple pie was okay, however I liked the ice cream and caramel lattice garnish. (On a side note some random man approached us and offered us tickets to a concert. I don't know if he was being generous or had sinister intentions as I've heard stories about the city of Amsterdam. He sorta eased the tension in the air so I'm grateful for that. Later I tried to look up his name to no avail so maybe it was an angel.)

This place is tiny, and you might pass it by like we did on a hunt for brunch. After walking to where we planned, the restaurant had changed names and was closed! So we made our way back towards the museum quarter and grabbed a tiny spot in front of a window. Service was slow and not overly welcoming or friendly but I think that is my American perspective. So glad we were patient! The gentleman that served us was hilarious and had a very dry sense of humor. He made our breakfast so much fun! Our lattes and peaches and cream pancakes were absolute perfection!

This is the first place I tried the popular pancake dish in the Netherlands. With so many great options of savory and sweet, it was difficult to decide so I asked our very helpful server for a suggestion. He said his favorite was the apple, and honestly this was the best dish I had in my entire European vacation. I ordered pancakes at several other restaurants around the Netherlands and none came close to the delicate texture and flavorful bites I had at Small Talk. A few of my friends had the other kinds like bacon and ham and one friend enjoyed a beautiful looking salad. We were all very satisfied with our meals and the service was superb. We just happened to come across this restaurant while visiting the nearby museums, but I would highly recommend seeking out Small Talk for a lovely brunch or lunch, you will not be disappointed.

I spent a morning in Vondelpark basking in the sun and taking in a good book. I knew that I wanted to pop over to the contemporary art museum in the early afternoon but knew I needed some food in my stomach and some caffeine to carry me through the rest of the day. I decided to go for something in between my current location and the museum and Small Talk was the best in terms of location. If I was rating my experience on food alone, the experience would probably be closer to 3 stars. My burger and fries sadly left me a little disappointed and tasted like it was fresh from a freezer. My cappuccino however was delightful and oh-so-photogenic. The entire restaurant was charming and the staff only added to that experience. I sat at the counter and interacted with a couple of the baristas/wait staff. All of the staff went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed. I think with a little more "umph" in the menu Small Talk would truly become a staple. All in all, Small Talk would be a great spot to stop and fuel up on caffeine but I can't yet make a strong recommendation for their kitchen options. This would definitely be a great spot to grab a cappuccino before heading to Museumplein.

A nice little coffee shop, very close to museum square and a great place to sit and enjoy watch the world go by. The coffee is nice and strong. Also, the up stairs space is pretty cool!

We stumbled upon this cute place while strolling our way to the Rijks Museum . While sitting waiting for our menus, I noticed a gentleman sitting near us being served a cup full of what looked like leaves in water . I asked what that was and the waitress said it was mint tea...I just had to try it. I'm very glad I did ! I had been dealing with a cold/cough for a bit and this was the perfect remedy, especially since it was served with honey ! Both the boyfriend and I ordered the banana pancakes...perfection ! It was more like a banana crepe , served with powdered sugar and maple syrup. Yum-o! I loved sitting on the sidewalk on a beautiful sunny day doing our favorite activity...people watching . My only complaint is when I wanted more hot water for my lovely mint tea , our waitress said I would have to be charged for another one. I loved it so much I said it was okay, and out came a brand new hot cup of water with mint and basil leaves generously stuffed in it . My boyfriend said it was probably because they don't want people ordering more and more hot water and just sit there all day . Overall, the experience was simply lovely .

A cute coffee house in Amsterdam, with its narrow but antique-style interior. Definitely go up to the 2nd floor for people watching. The coffee is decent and the banana pancake I got was simply yummy.

We were able to get seated right on the window area. We chose menu 5, which was just enough for two people. Everything was delicious! Their pea soup is out of this world. Don't know why as it is a simple dish but wow! I also love their herring. It was so delicious that I wanted seconds. It paired so well with their onions and mustard. And their bitterballen was just enough bite. Creamy and crispy! We also got a combination of the hutspot. They were all delicious! Although for me the meatball was just a tad bit salty but it is probably just me! Everything else was spot on. I love their dessert at the end. It was a great way to end the night. Our server and their staff were all amazing! Very friendly and welcoming. Yes it is a tourist spot but totally worth it.

We did not have one but they were happy to seat the 2 of us and invited us to switch tables once another couple left (they were checking out). Small space, can accommodate groups of 2-4, cozy atmosphere, lots of the traditional blue and white ceramics on the wall (dishes and tiles). Traditional Dutch cuisine: we ordered the Boerenkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and Zuurkoolstamppot with smoked sausage and a slice of apple pie to share for dessert. The food arrived piping hot in about 20 minutes. It was sooo delicious--the tasty juicy sausage pairs perfectly the mashed potatoes with either sauerkraut or kale. The apple pie was also tasty--larger chunks of apple and more spices less sugar than American apple pie from what I can tell. Perfect with whipped cream. A must visit if you're in Amsterdam and want to try traditional fare. Highly recommended!
