I really don't like to write negative or low star reviews, it was hard for me to do it because I really love the pastries this place makes but I'll explain why I did it
I have been to this place 5 times within a month, the first one was because I wanted to eat sweet bread or pastry and it was 6:15 AM on a Sunday on my way to work, to my surprise they have a pastry that we call milhoja and I haven't have one in a long time, so I got 3 for $2.00 each and $0.50 for each champurrada when I tried the milhoja it brought me back to my childhood, I have not tasted a milhoja like these ones since I was a kid, they are just made the way a remembered flaky and the taste is so good, so I didn't mind that it was a bit high price, the second time I was there it was 2 days after to get 3 more milhojas and champurradas only this time the wife of the owner attended me and she charged $2.50
per each milhojas and $0.60 per champurrada,I tought the price was raised just from one day to another, then the 3rd time I went again on a Sunday on my way to work at 6:30 AM and bought the same quantity as before and I was charged $2.00 for each milhoja and $0.50 for champurrada.
I was visiting my family and I mentioned that I have found this bakery with the most delicious milhojas and champurradas, and one of my cousins birthday was coming so she asked for the famous milhojas instead of a cake, so on April 26 2025 wich was a Saturday I went to get the milhojas and as I was picking them up I noticed that some look like they have been split in half so I tried to get the ones that look to me were not split and I thought I was getting 11 and I also got 18 champurradas when I approached the counter to pay there were a young man and the lady attending the customers, and she offered to help me right away, before she started counting I ask her to put them in a box knowingly I will be charged for it, and she started counting the milhojas but she also began to split them in half and when she was done counting them says to me that I had 21 milhojas and then counted the champurradas (18) and the total bill was $63.30 she charged me $2.50 for each milhoja and $0.60 per champurrada I paid because my cousin requested milhojas and champurradas for her birthday but I was so disappointed at the way they look like if a kid had split them. I was so upset that I decided to go the next day Sunday morning just to see if they have made more milhojas and if they were smaller, well they didn't have more than 3 and it was the leftovers from the day before so I just got something else and as I was paying I asked the guy who attended me what was the price for the milhojas and for the other sweet bread and he responded for milhoja $2.00 each and $0.50 for each sweet bread so I said I came yesterday to get some and they are smaller and he answered it is the bakers fault some times they make them smaller and we don't have control on that.
I took pictures of the 2 milhojas the lady didn't split and the difference between one the others she split.
What makes it worst is that they have no list of prices anywhere or price tags on the shelves next to the bread or pastry and needles to say didn't even have a cash register and that is the reason one doesn't get a receipt.
It is ashamed that they are taking advantage of the customers knowing that they make a good product and catering to a certain ethnic group and because they certainly know that this group is longing or craving for something unattainable because it is hard to find bakeries that make milhojas the way guatemalan bakers made them.
As much as I love the milhojas, champurradas. lenguas, campechanas and ojaldras these people make, I definitely will not recommend this place at all and I for sure I'm not coming back read more
