But considering we went to her to mark the year my healing began, it was extremely important to go back to her to commemorate what I was celebrating that day - the official end to my breast cancer journey. Very very Disappointed in this tattoo shop I've went here in feb thinking that I was going to get a beautiful sleeve done and all I got was a half of my arm not even that was finished . well the tattoo artist cellblock did the bottom of my arm and never finished his work . That shop has bad Communications with their customers about their appointments very unprofessional about their appointments and just very unorganized . This tattoo artist cellblock didn't finish his work on my arm I would have to text him and call him about finishing my arm and no response . Then finally i was able to get him to try and finish the bottom of my arm . And he did some but left some stuff that still needs to be fix and Colored he told that he will do it a other day . I can go on but long story short he never finished his work. So I try to get finished by another tattoo artist in the shop and even that girl was bad at responding back toke my deposit made an appointment and then realize she was booked and told me that she didn't have nothing available all of a sudden until July which I think is a bunch of bullshit . They whole shop is just bad even the owner she dose not know how to run a business at all they all very unprofessional I wouldn't recommend this tattoo shop go somewhere else because you're wasting your money. read more

It's been a long journey since 2022, and here I am in 2025 still going through tattoo removal. I've…read moreheld off on writing this, but I think I'm finally ready to share my experience. I originally went to Mary to get a tattoo of a paper crane with "Mary" worked into the design. I had gotten a small tattoo from her before, and she was super nice and warm -- which is what made me comfortable going back for a bigger piece. When I arrived for this session, she seemed friendly and welcoming at first, but her vibe shifted. She was kind of cold and dismissive once things got going. Looking back, I should've taken that as a red flag to maybe not go through with it, but I brushed it off. I gave her several reference photos and she drew something up. During the session, I chose not to look because I wanted it to be a surprise -- but I was still checking in, asking questions like, "The blues are going to be really light like the photo, right?" Just trying to make sure we were aligned on the look and colors. When it was done and I finally saw it, I was shocked. It didn't look like the reference at all. The lines weren't straight, some looked blown out, and the light blues just looked muddy... and it looked disproportionate. It had none of the delicate, clean feel I'd been going for. It honestly looked like something done by a beginner. I kept telling myself maybe I'd get used to it or it would look better once it healed -- but the more I looked at it, the more I hated it. Within a few weeks, I was already looking into laser removal. The clinic told me I had to wait about two months for the tattoo to fully heal before starting, and I did. Then I began my removal journey, which I'm still going through today. It's been tough, but the tattoo has faded a lot, and I'm finally starting to feel like myself again. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I think I paid around $220, including a drawing fee. One of my best friends is a tattoo artist, and he once told me something I'll never forget: "Good tattoos ain't cheap, and cheap tattoos ain't good." That definitely hit home for me after all this. Just sharing my story -- along with my reference photos, Mary's drawing of what she will be tattooing, what she actually tattooed, and the progress from my laser sessions -- in hopes it helps someone else avoid the same experience.

There was a 4 month wait from when I scheduled to appointment day (like doctors, restaurants, and specialists, a long wait list means you've found the best). Girl is QUICK at her craft! The price was incredibly fair for the beautiful work. It's been 3.5 years and the tattoo still looks good as new! (With proper care-all of Mary's clients know you wear SFP for LIFE) I ended up referring my best friend to Mary, who's now gotten several tattoos done by her! I highly recommend her to everyone-especially if you're looking for floral and/ or color. She's an incredibly gifted artist that I was fortunate to find!

Humble Beginnings Tattoo Studio is hands down my favorite tattoo studio in the Bay Area. From the…read moremoment you walk in, you feel like you're among your people--they make you feel like family. My first visit was for a partial cover-up that transitioned into a tribal tattoo. I researched very carefully because I was intentionally seeking women tattoo artists who specialize in tribal work. The story I'm telling through my tattoos matters deeply to me, and respect for symbolism is essential. That search led me to Mel. After seeing her work, I booked a consultation--and she more than lived up to her reputation. In fact, she exceeded my expectations so much that I returned to have the tattoo extended straight down my spine (which is AWESOME!!!) My long-term project is to have women tattoo artists visually gift my life story in Polynesian and Filipino tribal styles across the entire right side of my body. While I also proudly wear tattoos by male artists on the other side--chosen just as intentionally--I want this side to honor women artists who truly understand and respect tribal symbolism. Mel is absolutely among the best. A few weeks ago, I returned during Humble Beginnings' Black Friday flash sale and got a rose tattoo on my arm--this time by Kim. She did such an incredible job that I'm already planning to go back to her for a rose half-sleeve. I'll also be returning to Mel to continue work on my leg and complete another section of my side. Every time I'm in the studio, I find myself watching the other artists work and feeling completely inspired. Their talent is next-level. Honestly, I'm tempted to get tattooed by every artist there! As long as I have canvas for it! Every artist at Humble Beginnings is incredibly skilled, and having their work represented on your body is absolutely worth it. If you're looking for artistry, intention, and a studio that truly feels like home--this is the place.
