It's been a long journey since 2022, and here I am in 2025 still going through tattoo removal. I've held off on writing this, but I think I'm finally ready to share my experience. I originally went to Mary to get a tattoo of a paper crane with "Mary" worked into the design. I had gotten a small tattoo from her before, and she was super nice and warm -- which is what made me comfortable going back for a bigger piece. When I arrived for this session, she seemed friendly and welcoming at first, but her vibe shifted. She was kind of cold and dismissive once things got going. Looking back, I should've taken that as a red flag to maybe not go through with it, but I brushed it off. I gave her several reference photos and she drew something up. During the session, I chose not to look because I wanted it to be a surprise -- but I was still checking in, asking questions like, "The blues are going to be really light like the photo, right?" Just trying to make sure we were aligned on the look and colors. When it was done and I finally saw it, I was shocked. It didn't look like the reference at all. The lines weren't straight, some looked blown out, and the light blues just looked muddy... and it looked disproportionate. It had none of the delicate, clean feel I'd been going for. It honestly looked like something done by a beginner. I kept telling myself maybe I'd get used to it or it would look better once it healed -- but the more I looked at it, the more I hated it. Within a few weeks, I was already looking into laser removal. The clinic told me I had to wait about two months for the tattoo to fully heal before starting, and I did. Then I began my removal journey, which I'm still going through today. It's been tough, but the tattoo has faded a lot, and I'm finally starting to feel like myself again. There is light at the end of the tunnel. I think I paid around $220, including a drawing fee. One of my best friends is a tattoo artist, and he once told me something I'll never forget: "Good tattoos ain't cheap, and cheap tattoos ain't good." That definitely hit home for me after all this. Super happy with my tattoo! Thank you Mary for making my vision come to life. This tattoo took 8 years to finish because I've moved out of state, and it was hard to find an appointment that fits my schedule when I do visit CA. Mary is incredibly quick! We finished within 3 hours plus she was able to do a sibling tattoo for me too! I would definitely recommend Mary to anyone who is looking for a tattoo artist! The shop still requires you to wear a mask inside, and to sanitize your hands when you enter. Originally found Hao through a mutual for a smaller piece, but ended up browsing other options for a while. Then one day, I randomly felt like getting a spine tattoo, and he ran with it, which I really appreciated. He asked me to send over some reference photos to get a feel for the vibe I wanted, and we scheduled a date to go over the idea and take some measurements. Hao was super nice and welcoming, and you can tell he really pays attention to detail. We set the tattoo date, and as expected, I got the design the day before the appointment. I had a few questions, and he answered them all and was really reassuring. The day of the appointment went great. We got the paperwork out of the way, did final measurements and stenciling, and throughout it all, Hao kept checking in with me to make sure I was doing okay, plus he made me laugh a few times, which helped lighten the mood. He was super professional and extremely detailed. This was my first bigger piece, and I think it turned out amazing, especially considering I went into it just knowing I wanted "a spine tattoo" without any solid idea of what it would be. So this was my first tattoo, and honestly, this turned out better than I had expected. I highly recommend Mary to anyone looking in the Bay Area for a tattoo! I was nervous, but also super excited. I got an ouroboros symbol from Full Metal Alchemist. I saw that Mary had done the tattoo design before with her other clients in the past. I loved the sharp flawless lines, and this turned out much better than I had expected. Disclaimer: I suffer from chronic vertigo so certain movements, or laying down for a while can trigger a dizzy spell for me. When I disclosed this to Mary she was super accommodating and very sweet. She made sure I was comfortable on the chair during my tattoo. She even went out of her way to prop the chair to a level I was comfortable with. The whole time she was tattooing me, she put on the anime one-piece, while talking to me. It was a good distraction, and it made me feel like the whole process was a breeze. I got both of my tattoos done by Mary. My first one was in 2018 when they were at their old location. I found her on instagram and the process was quick and easy. First some texts, then a consultation, then scheduling the appointment. When it comes to the design, she is very detailed and communicative about it. I love how her sketches are unique and she will usually send it a week before the appointment. The first tattoo healed great! I haven't ran into any problems at all. Just got my second piece done and the healing process is going smooth. Saniderm on the piece for 5 days, which was really low maintenance! My sister and I came here back in January for a consult for a matching tattoo. We paid about $30 for the deposit as well as the sketch. We gave Mary the basis for our tattoo and she told us she would work on it. Fast forward through all the Covid-19 craziness, we've had to reschedule twice for our appointment. Being a student in SF, there were limited times I was able to come back (mostly on weekends or during school breaks). Gratefully, Mary was kind enough to make a special time for us to come as I knew I wouldn't be free to get it for another few months (we had our tattoos done in October). Lucid Illusions Tattoo is very thorough in their precautions with Covid as well. In terms of the tattoo -- I love it. I had my first time visiting lucid illusions, and was pretty blown away by how nice the experience was. I recently moved to the bay area from the UK and this was my first inking on this side of the world so I wasn't sure what to expect and was a little nervous. Mary and her team were super welcoming and friendly. The studio was one of the cleanest I've ever seen, and the vibe was just great. We watched one piece in the background, shared random stories, chatted and laughed the whole time and before I knew it I was done! (Was only a small piece). In terms of the "product" - Mary's line work is some of the cleanest I've ever seen on tattoos. It's quite rare to see tattoos that look exactly 1:1 with the drawing outline, but she smashed it. Shading looks like it was done on a piece of paper, it came out so nicely. Based on the Instagram content, this was not a fluke whatsoever - every tattoo I've seen posted looks impeccable. These two things combined are why I will be coming back to this studio for more work for sure. read more

Viet was the artist to my first ever tattoo and I couldn't have been more pleased and honored for this occurrence. I had done a shit ton of research on who would be the artist to go too in the bay area. I stalked and followed all the instagrams to get a feel of what the artist as capable of and Viet's stuck out! My goal on my tattoo was something different and new that no one usually does. I met up with Viet to discuss the design and concept which was Watercolor + Trash Polka. He has done plenty of watercolor tats in the past and that was my main reason I wanted to Viet to do my work as he has experience on them - given his social media posts. The initial consultation wasn't long. We discussed what I wanted, where I wanted and the cost. He was a great listener and his mind was imaginative as hell! He knew what I wanted even more than me! Mary has done 5/8 of my tattoos and touched up one that I got after I got a bad tattoo at a different shop. I have never had any issues with an of my tattoos. Aftercare is easy and I have never had to get a touch up. She's friendly yet focused and has very fair prices. She's taking so many covid precautions and I feel very safe in her shop. His prices are more than fair for his level of skill, artistic range, and attention to detail. He literally brought my vision of the perfect Haku back piece to life and I couldn't be happier with the outcome. During the booking process he was very accommodating and was willing to work around my schedule and squeeze me in on short notice so I could have my tattoo done and healed up in time for an upcoming event. He's also really chill and easy to talk to which is definitely something to look for if you're gonna be stuck with someone for hours while they do your tattoo.
