Overall, I'd say Luna Grill is a solid choice if you're craving Mediterranean food that's a bit healthier and fresher than typical fast food. Service was friendly and quick. It's counter-order style, but the staff checked in and brought the food to the table promptly. They were also happy to answer questions and make substitutions. Walked in with 10 mins before closing right now. Took 3 mins before someone said hello. Girl behind the register said "we so close at 9pm"...I was like, yeah, I know...it's a to-go order. She said she would ask if they could still do it. Walked in back, talked to the cook, then someone else. Came back, now it's 5 mins till close and said she couldn't find her manager...Sam. Then he called her and she asked if they could take an order. He said NO. He already closed out the drawer...which means it was done prior to 8:50pm when I walked in. She said she was sorry they couldn't help me. So just know that if you come when SAM is the manager...9pm close means more like 8:45pm. FYI. And we liked this place...moving on. read more

My experiences at Encinitas Luna Grill over the past 7+ years has been OUTSTANDING. The service provided by Rudy, Alex, Ethan, Lilly, Rio, Olive, and others is ALWAYS spot on. The staff are extremely expedient in taking my order and the cooks prepare the meals very quickly AND consistently!!! As a dine-in customer, my meal is presented in very little time and follow-up by staff is consistent -- ensuring the meal is prepared well and if I needed anything else !! I am a begetarian so I appreciate that the food is fresh and there are options for me. However, the attention to detail is lacking here. Whenever I order dressing on the side, or pay for extras, such as avocado--I rarely receive it. Last night I ordered the falafel bowl with dressing on the side and avocado--the avocado is not cheap--and again, no one put it on. Absolutely amazing experience! The entire place is spotless, and the staff are incredibly patient and friendly. My food came out super fast and was to die for! I enjoyed my meal. I ordered the Santorini Bowl & it was delicious. I could tell that it was fresh, prepared with Cate because it wasn't just whipped up & tossed into the bowl. It was made & served with care. The employees were friendly, attentive & helpful. My order was for pickup & I had requested utensils along with my order. The location has an ideal patio setting that is inviting. I like the furniture, it's appealing & contributes to the relaxing environment so I decided to eat my meal there. Had I not done so, I wouldn't have realized I had no utensils. Consequently I was able to step back in & request my utensils to scarf down my food, morsel by morsel. It was scrumptious. We've been here a few times and have grown to love it. Once my family found the dishes they all prefer, we really enjoy eating here. I usually have the apple walnut salad if I'm in a healthy mood or I'll get a combo plate with gyro and chicken. The family gets a bunch of different things and it's all good. However, if you eat like a little bear, much like myself, then perhaps you should look elsewhere. The portions are very small. I ordered the chicken kebab plate and received about five pieces of chicken. The chicken was roughly the size of four gummy bears mashed together. Use to be a regular with my kids here as we live right across the street. The last couple of orders were wrong and we have wrote it off. Last week they forgot all our sides, my husband's meal was completely off, they put chicken in my veggie wrap (and falafel) which was weird. We called to let them know and a nice gentleman apologized and explained the system was off. He told us to come in and our meal would be comped. We asked if he needed our info or if he could send a credit via email. He said to just come in or call and they will not question us- was super nice. Well, just called and the manager who answered was super rude, questioned our integrity and said absolutely not. Cool, we'll take our business elsewhere. As a Yelper, I generally try to avoid chain restaurants as they all tend to be the same, save for the cleanliness and parking area. Still, when you have stops like Habit and Luna Grill here that you tend to love, it's hard to keep your admiration of their food contained to one particular location, especially when you start frequenting specific ones. Plus, you know, I already have an earlier review to draw inspiration from ... hurray, laziness! Anyway, having been here a few times since they opened, I'm happy to find that they are just as good here as the Luna Grill up in Carlsbad. Both times I've gone, I've stuck with the Kids' Chicken Kabob Plate w/Basmati Rice. The chicken is always juicy, a nice crisped char on the edges from the grill, with a great fluff to the rice. It's a small amount, but enough for a not that hungry guy who had a good sized breakfast hours before. My love prefers the Classic Wrap with pita bread and gyro meat. Its basic and safe, but always satisfying, as the meat is juicy and never dry. The bread is soft, thick enough to not fall apart, and as long as they hold the tomatoes, she's very happy with the veggies and sauce alongside. Our son usually has the Kids' Cheese Quesadilla w/Fries, passing on his cucumbers and stealing his mother's tomatoes. In the end, about the only thing I can complain about is the decor. I mean, seriously, who stole the old set on Mad Men and decided that hanging their old silverware from the chandeliers was even close to a good idea? Well, I guess I can see passed that ... as long as the Basmati is this good and I can can get the occasional steak kebob. read more

I wish the dressing came on the side because it was put on the salad but it seemed like it just went missing or slid down the plate to the rice. I'm not sure. Loved the decor inside and there's a tv on the side that had the Olympics on. We got the shareable hummus for free with the yelp check in promotion. Hummus and pita was good.
