I want to rate higher because the food was actually very good, this time. But the rating is based purely on customer service. The service for a Sunday evening, was well below subpar. We got seated, asked for water as we decided what we wanted to eat and drink. Water came and we ordered drinks, appetizer and upon learning that they can't cook a burger medium rare, while reevaluating choices the server put in our appetizer and drink(or so we thought) order and came back so we could finish our meal order. Appetizer came and we enjoyed it(even though we were not given a sauce choice and only brought one of the two options). Once appetizer was completed we sat and conversed as a family(which was very nice) my wife excused herself and went to bar to check on our drinks, to learn that our drink order hadn't even been placed yet. WOW. Let's rewind, while ordering and finding out about the burger being cooked to medium/medium well, I told the server about the last time I visited, I asked for my burger medium rare and it was well done. I told her that I swore I would never come back but here we were, giving it another shot, because hey let's support our local businesses. Anyway, back to the experience, hey look, we got our drinks, no apology for the length of time it took, no "sorry I'm really busy tonight", no nothing. Food came, it was the best food I've had here yet. Wife and sons burger were a juicy medium/medium well and my beef sandwich was very good. My wife really wanted dessert and the server(I'm calling her a server because that really all she was) came to the table and offered us the check, with no hint and trying something for dessert tonight? Or how about a box for the left over burger(our son only ate half his burger) as would have enjoyed the remainder for lunch tomorrow. Regardless, the bill came the server mentioned she would be right back, a bit later we took the bill to the bar because she never came back. Pour service does not create a positive experience regardless of how good the food is. If you've made reading this, this far then I will tell you the bartender(who I believe is the owner) told she was busy, she had bigger tables than the other girl. I don't f-ing care if you have big tables or small tables, we are all spending money in your establishment. Maybe you don't care because some people do look past service and only care about food but we go out, to go out and enjoy the experience and service is a huge part of that. Keep cooking good food and hire some competent waitresses who have personality and maybe we will consider coming back. read more

What a great place to hang out! Lumpy is a good guy and our bartender Mickey was awesome. I had the perch dinner and it was very good.

I spend a lot of time in the Northwoods during the year. Whenever I have family or friends visiting, I always take them to Lumpy's. Yes I was there over the 4th week, and this other guy must have had a bad day himeslf. I love this place. Sure on busy weekends and holidays there is a little wait. But I would rather wait a few if I can get great food, just like they serve here. If you want quick food go to McDonalds. I think the staff is very courtious and friendly, and the bartenders are a hoot. When we have to wait at the bar for a table, Phil (Radio voice) and Lumpy (Owner), keep us entertained with thier jokes. Everyone who works there is always smiling, must be a great place. to work. The fish is one of the best that I have ever had. The pizza is great and the burgers are to die for. Do not let anyone fool you. Even if you get here once, go in and visit Lumpy and the staff. We stopped at Lumpy's on Sunday night and had a great meal with very good service. My daughter had the pulled pork sandwich which was delicious and my son had the ribs which were falling off the bone good. This is high praise considering we presently hail from KC. I had a bowl of soup and chicken quesidillas. We had lots of leftovers for the next day-as the quantities were gigantic. It looked like a fun place to watch a game and we enjoyed the QB jersey's with X's over them. We didn't see Lumpy, but know from experience that he makes a mean Bloody Mary. read more

Really enjoyed taking our family to Lumpy's for dinner. Ate at the tables in the dining room adjacent to the bar. Great fried fish basket, pizza, and breaded chicken fingers. Incredibly clueless, arrogant, slow, poor and indifferent service. While the food and drinks are adequate--nothing special-- they do not justify the price. The fact that this place is still open is a sad testament to how truly awful the competition is. read more

Rueben was soggy. Zero flexibility on substitutions (I wanted green beans instead of potato). Chili was on the menu but when ordered was told it was seasonal. Ribeye was good. And so was the chicken pot pie. read more

I don't know what these people are talking about. I go there once a week and NEVER had a bad meal or service. You have to consider they serve over 300 people a night on the weekend and it seems to go pretty smooth. Also the best sports bar in the northwoods and the best gyro I've had in a long time. If you want to wait a long time for bad service and a below average meal then this is the place for you. I've been here 4 times in 3 years and each time was worse than the time before. I won't be wasting my time or money at this place again. The last time I was there I ordered the "special" of the night, which was the meatball sub. When I bit into it the meatball was cold, very little sauce, and the cheese wasn't even melted. The waitress never came back to the table so I had to go to the bar to let Lumpy know my dissatisfaction. He told me he would adjust the bill, a whopping $3.00 off my bill. So I paid $5.00 for fries. I can get a footling with all the toppings at Subway for $5.00. read more

Went there for all you can eat broasted chicken and it was great. The restaurant was busy but I got my food in a about 20 min.. Talked with several waitresses and the bar tender and they were all very friendly as well as the people I talked with at the bar. I will definitely go back. A big thumbs up! read more

Went there Friday for Perch. Will never go back, the food was horrible. The fish fillets were filled with BONES. Waitress told us we could talk to Lumpy about it if we wanted to, I would have thought she should have taken care of this problem with him, but no. We talked to Lumpy, his comment was all fish have bones in them, and he could not help it. He offered to take $2 of off a $35 bill. I guess some is better than none. A large group of us went to eat at Lumpy's. Unfortunately the waitress we had was the most rude waitress u have ever had. Apparently you need to be a eagle River townie to patronize Lumpy's. If you are hungry in eagle river.... Look elsewhere where they appreciate your patronage. read more

Had the perch on the Friday before Easter. The best I've ever had in the Eagle River/Minocqua area. My wife had the haddock and we sampled the deep fried white fish. All was outstanding. We ate at the bar and the service was good. Went back the next day for lunch and had a similar (good) experience. I'd say if you're looking for a nice Friday night desitination, this is the number 1 spot to go. read more

I usually do not write reviews but this was the worst service I've experienced anywhere. They would not separate our check for our big group because we were over 5 people. If you have over 5 people be warned. Our five arrived later than the rest of our group of 15 and the waiter did not even try to accommodate us. We ordered later and got our food later than the rest of our group which we knew and were fine with. I just wish we could have been split into a different table even to make the calculating easier... especially since we ordered later etc. If this is a policy it really should be stated to big groups upon arrival before ordering so they can plan ahead instead of being told after and be slammed with a $223 dollar bill that we all have to divide and figure out. Thankfully enough of us has cash on us. The waiter was very unprofessional. Our appetizers came out with our meals. The waiter kept putting the food on the table in front of my husband and saying pass it down rather than asking who had what and delivering. We kind of had to figure out where these plates of food were going. He did not seem to care at all about what was going on. His excuse was he was having a hard day (which he may have but you don't bring it to work with you). It was not too busy... some others were in dining but still a bunch of empty tables. I will not be going back here. The food was general bar food... not bad. My husband expressed his displeasure with this and the waiter mumbled a couple rude things under his breath as he left. read more

Visiting Eagle River for the Pond Hockey tournament. Service and food spectacular. Recommend the Friday Fish Fry or the Smokehouse pork chop. Make sure you get a table in the main room. And make sure your waitress is Cindy. I would hire her in a second if she wants to work at my restaurant in NYC. Lumpy runs a great bar and restaurant.
