I made an appointment for noon on a Saturday. It was my dad's first time getting a pedicure. They did a superb job with my dad's thick toe nails and dry feet. He also enjoyed the paraffin wax. There hasn't been any recent reviews so I thought I'd do one so people can see where they are at recently. It's a very nice place, you feel like they could host easily 15-20 people at the same time. A great bridal shower or wedding day event perhaps? I came in around 5:45pm and they close at 7pm. I wanted the classic mani pedi. I was sat right away and had two girls work on my hands and feet. They have the typical big comfy massage chairs, but I never use them because I feel like I'm moving too much and don't want them to mess up the nails! They do a wonderful massage on the legs with hot stones and also do a massage for the arms. I was thoroughly relaxed. I mentioned that I always seem to get nicked when they do the part of cleaning up the skin around the nail bed. Well, to no avail, she nicked me. It was a small bleed and she quickly put the glue on it. That's my only complaint of the whole process. Otherwise, it seemed clean (new bag of tools per use) and saw them wiping and even mop the floors. I will definitely come back again. read more

Went in for a manicure and gel pedicure. Manicure didn't involve anything but a 1 minute hand massage, little file shaping and nail painting. No cuticle cleanup. The pedicure was horrible. The guy painted my nails without getting all the previous nail polish off. I had to ask him twice to remove the skin that was sticking out of my ends of my nail. The previous blue polish is still visible on the side of my nail after the new purple was painted. read more

Walked in on Sunday afternoon with my granddaughter and she was able to get a first-class manicure with Van for only $30. She did a great job, very neat, careful and precise. Plus, she drew two perfect silver stars - by hand - on the middle fingernails. No decals, no stencils, just beautiful patient work. Lovely! Plus, the atmosphere was peaceful (except for the massive TV that nobody was watching. Why have those damn things on at all???) Staff was friendly and we felt welcome. This was our first time at Luminous but we will definitely return when needing nail services. Apparently they do a basic pedi for only $20 or a full pedi for only $32. We have been to quite a few nail spas around town trying to find one we're really happy with. Some don't measure up. Staff are surly and don't care what you want, some shops have a heavy odour of chemical products, some have glaring lights overhead, loud TVs and staff laughing and talking amongst themselves (while pretty much ignoring their clients), and some just don't do a very thorough job. We have also found that my granddaughter is often given less than full service because she is young. If you're going to charge full price, give full service! Luminous is a lovely space, with friendly staff who do absolutely gorgeous work. No need to go anywhere else. We've found our nail spa in Kerrisdale. And we'll ask for Van again next time. read more

TERRIBLE!!!!I went in to remove my acrylic nail extensions. Formy left hand she used an electric nail file. For my right hand she used a metal nail file to squeeze between my nail and the extensions and flick off. It was painful!!! Ouch i explained its hurting me. ' Oh you are just sensitive .' Just got back from the nail spa got my gel nails done for both hands and feet. Couldn't be more happier with them. The ladies suggested the colours. Jaycee and Lucy.., both did a fantastic job.. i have very brittle nails and often don't go to the nail spa on a regular basis, so vey low maintenance...but after today I plan on going back more often. Last time I ever come here. This place double books with no thought to their clients time. People walking in after us getting seated and their services started. Sat here for 30 min today with my handicapped sister before they started our pedicures then they had the gall to ask if we wanted a full pedicure or just nails cut. They are rude, don't do a good job and rush because they book so many at once. Avoid at all costs. Lost my business. Oh, and it's just dirty. I came here with my friend the other day. I haven't gone to get a pedicure for over 2 years. This place is really nice it doesn't look dirty. And we went near the end of the night. We got a mini pedicure ($21) which is pretty good! They were really busy when we came in so we came back 10 minutes later. The person I go his name was David. He was really gentle and nice. He took his time with my nails and it didn't hurt. The water was hot but you can adjust it to your liking just letting them know! My friend got this lady who seemed really stressed out. Her friends feet is more sensitive then mine. She said the lady was rough with the cuticle and the paint job wasn't as good as mine. They left us to dry under the nail dryers for about 20-40 minutes. It was a long time but the nails were completely dry! If you're worried about cleanliness of the place and reusing items this place is hygienic. They have a plastic net that is a one time use for pedicures. When the nail tech came over they had a blue and clear plastic bag (like what they put in a disinfectant machine) and peeled the cover off so the instruments he used were clean. They wore masks and gloves. And this is what really made me like this place. They had two jars on the stations one was for white sander/buffer and the other was for white file. And they were using it one per a customer! I've been to other salons before where they reuse it on other people (they are not suppose to!) but this place is very clean. read more

The service is terrible. They can do nails well but is that enough? They do not respect their clients time when they book appointment and often you will wait half an hour even when you have an appointment and you arrive on time. They do not even think that they need to apologies for that. They speak Vietnamese between themselves and often talk about the clients assuming we do not understand. They expect you to leave at least 18% tip and for what? crappy service? Do not go there as if people will keep going, they will never learn. read more

I was here today for 11 am appointment for mini pedi and mani. I paid and go. Went to bcaa and while I'm waiting I looked at my nails. I noticed she cut my fingers nails uneven. My right finger nails is shorter than my left fingers. So I went back and showed the owner. She said " because your finger nails are short" I replied to her " my nails are long when I get here to do my nails " I told her " I wanted to show you " My finger nails are not cut even. Person doing my manicure busy talking quietly (almost whispering )to person doing my pedicure. My bill come to $37 dollars something and I gave $5.55 tip for 10 or minutes. I have always had a good experience at luminous nail spa, however it had been a year since I last got a manicure. Today's appointment was far different than it had been previously. I made an appointment and unfortunately still had to wait 30 minutes when I arrived. I would have preferred if they had just scheduled my appointment 30 minutes later if they were extremely busy. This isn't an unusual experience here as I once waited nearly an hour for a pedicure after making an appointment. The colour choices lack variation, however I am usually able to put together a combination that looks good. Today was a challenge because the colour on the sample board looked different from the colour applied onto my nail. Therefore, I had to make last minute changes to what I originally planned. My nail technician seemed inexperienced and was quite slow in his application. However, another nail technician came over and was much better. She finished applying the colours evenly and without streaks, however, by the end there had been so many layers that my nails look quite thick. There was also one nail in which the top coat had been applied badly and stuck to my skin. I had to peel it off after leaving the salon. At the end, I felt they were trying to rush me out as a different nail technician asked me if I was ready to pay before they had even applied any cuticle oil, which I then had to ask for. My nails were still sticky as they did not wipe the residue off properly. All in all, today's manicure was not worth what I had paid for it, and it took a whooping 2 hours to complete from start to finish! read more

I went back today and my nails look like shit! I've gone with one of my friends and the lady doing her nails made her call her mom and rudely spoke to her saying she was not caring properly for her daughters exima! Do not go here for a leg waxing. Horrible horrible experience. Four days later and I still have to wear shorts as I cannot have a thing next to my skin. Ripped off the strips as if she hated me. Banged almost punching my legs to pull off wax. After so much pain I hobbled out. Got home purple bruises on outside of my legs and inside right thigh. On top of it there are hairs everywhere. I am Scandinavian and have always been told my wax technicians that I am really easy. This woman would put wax on half a leg and literally ripped the strips off over her head. I cannot tell you how awful it was and is. Linda the owner works so hard I will phone her about this. More then just untrained but vicious this employee needs to go. I wil never go back. Sorry Linda. I had a mixed experience here. I came in to have my nails filled and they did an AMAZING job but the pedi they sold me on was a fail from start to finish. They were gracious about my negative comments and gave me a discount for my next experience which I appreciated. That fill was hands down the best I've ever had. At 3 weeks I got another fill only due to my nails being too long for computer work. They really know what what are doing!!! Got a pedicure here in August and it was great. Good selection of colours; very clean; friendly and proficient staff. A few hours after my pedicure my friend stepped on my big toe and completely wrecked the polish... I went back to Luminous the next day and asked them to fix just the one toe, completely willing to pay for it. They insisted on doing it for FREE, and did a fantastic job of it. My absolute favourite place to get my nails done. I am never ever disappointed or worried they are going to make my cuticles bleed. They are super professional, super clean, and all of the nail techs are highly skilled. They can nail(no pun intended) pretty much any creative design you want. I always get fancy accent nails, and no matter who is doing my nails, they always get it right. The atmosphere is also fabulous. Even the interior design is top notch. My acrylics usually cost me $75 here, but that's with extras. Love this place. read more

Made an appointment for 530pm and still had to wait even though I arrived 30 mins prior to my appointment. The nail tech was quite thorough and gave what I asked for. He was quick as well! After I got a pedi, by another gentleman and he was very gentle. Service was good. During payment, my friend got charged 15$ less than me.. Even tho we both got the same service and also my friend had additional art added on 2 fingers (normally would cost more at other places) yet I was still charged 15$ more.. Funny thing is the owner spoke to the worker who was ringing me up in Vietnamese, I understood every single word. Guess the stereotypical comments about nail salons are true Probably wouldn't ever come back, but it was a nice, spacious and clean salon. I'll give it that much! I have been to this place several times and thought it was fine. Today however I went in to have my gel nails removed and I am incredibly angry with the service I received. First of all the women working were all preoccupied with the conversations they were having with one another and did not seem interested in the customers (myself included) they were serving. The woman who was removing my nails was using the grinder on me and was spending so much time chatting with her co worker that she managed to grind right through the gel nail as well as my actual nail and into my flesh. I pulled my hand away and had some choice words as the blood started to pool up around what is left of the side of my finger nail. The woman barely apologized and just moved on to my next finger. I was pissed and in pain but I let her finish taking off the rest of my nails. She ground off so much of my actual nails (the others not the one she destroyed) that they all look and feel awful. Then she proceeded to charge me full price. I will never go back. The least she could have done was offered a discount or an actual apology. I am worried now that my nail bed might be permanently damaged. read more

Wow they accepted me as a walk-in and they were super busy! I happened to come on a last minute whim since I was between appointments and asked for a French nails in pink. An hour later they were done and dry. Price was very good too. I especially liked how all the utensils were all packaged and cleaned. Started off with, I believe it was a trainee, who just removed my gel nail polish off, and her co workers were watching to make sure everything was done right. Then another woman passed over to me so she could continue with shaping/filing/colouring etc. With colour choices, a few of the workers there were super helpful, and I wanted to do a pink fade. The lady who was working with me (not sure her name) shaped my nails perfectly, and I'm absolutely in love. To do the fading, I believe her name was Luci, she came to do it for me. She was so careful and did it beautifully, taking her time. This was all gel polish on my real nails (I only had one acrylic nail). Including tax, total was around $42. Absolutely perfect job and definitely coming back. A great price but for a beautiful job. read more

Two stars because the owner is very kind and does a good job. However, I will not be going back. I've been here twice, once for an acrylic set and the second time to remove the acrylics and get a shellac manicure. Both times my cuticles were cut to the point where they bled and were sensitive for over a month after getting my nails done from here. It was pretty painful and it deterred me from getting my nails done altogether for almost a year. I went in the second time after about 2.5-3 weeks from getting the acrylic set. I was helped by one of the guys in the shop. My cuticles were still pretty cut up from the first time with bits of dried blood still on them so I figured he'd be gentle during the manicure. I believe he was aware of how damaged and cut up my cuticles were because he called over the other guy in the shop and it seemed as if they were discussing my fingers. He was pointing at the fingers that were cut up and discussing it in a language I do not speak. Despite this, he ended up cutting a chunk of my skin off from my ring finger cuticle area. There was quite a bit of blood oozing out so he took a piece of paper towel and placed it on the cut and asked me to place my hand in the LED machine (not sure what it's called) that is used to cure the gel. He did this process around 2-3 times because the blood wouldn't stop. Alas, I was left a bit traumatized and in pain but nonetheless I tipped him $10 for a shellac manicure. He didn't seem too thrilled about it as I didn't receive a thank you and he maintained a poker face. I am not a picky customer, I let the nails techs do their thing and don't have it in me to complain even when I dislike their work. Considering the fact that my cuticles were butchered yet again, I tipped him over 18% so a simple smile or thank you should have followed. Quite disappointed, to be honest. Overall, their work is good. The owner is great when it comes to the actual acrylic nails. They are even and smooth. But I will not be revisiting due to my experience. read more

I had an appointment booked for Gel removal.... Arrived on time and was made to wait 15 minutes for my appointment as a walkin for a full set of nails was more important than my $10 appointment I suppose. The tech sat down and was going to use a tool I just saw being used on the previous client. I had to ask twice to have a clean tool be used to remove my gel polish. The remover wasn't left on my nail long enough and when the polish was removed with the scrapping tool it was rather painful. The job was not done well at all. My nails were left in such poor condition and I was told "three weeks they will grow out and look better" that's got to be the most "don't care" service I've ever recived. I eneded up going to another salon to have the remainder of the polish removed as my nails were left rough. I will never go back there again. read more

Last week I got acrylics there and I'm not sure if I would go there for acrylics again. I got gel there before and it was well done. When they did my acrylics they made the tips uneven and I had to tell them to fix it. Also it was a bit hard to communicate with them cuz they didn't understand my shape instruction very well. They gave me coffin instead of square. Lastly this made me pretty upset because they drilled into my cuticle rim and made some of my fingers bleed and they hurt really bad. They were rough with the drill and damaged my fingers. read more

Come here if you want to be ignored. This is some of the worst service a client can get at a salon. I was rushed into picking a color for shellac, (don't even think she brought the color I requested) I was then given a fan for my toes and the technician never came back to check on me when they were dry, I waited there for more than a half hour. I got up and was waiting at the cashier TO PAY for my service, still being completely ignored for another few minutes. I should have just walked out. A sub-par mani pedi is just not worth this cold service. Try one of the other 100 salons in kerrisdale... read more
