This is my second UNPAID review of Ruby Nails on West Broadway. I came for a pedicure today, told them I had written a yelp review and they told me it had been deemed invalid, solicited and paid and had been taken down. She then showed me that indeed it was under "not recommended " review section. Not fairI meant every word I said and it was my first time there and I bought 10 dollar flo jos. All true!! Ruby nails is great for their relaxed and not rushed way of delivering a pedicure. They take their time, they do a good job especially considering the price, and to boot...I wrote a "bad" review about another nail salon on West 10th? They didn't pay me either....they are just bad.. Please try Ruby Nails the people are so good at their and so personable ,they deserve to have our patronage. Support good small business' locally!! Another perk? I was trying to book a last minute appointment gel manicure appointment on Sunday for a trip and everywhere was booked! I had almost given up before I found Ruby Nails. Even though they usually don't open on Sundays - the owner (Sarah) was so nice and accommodating that she came in just to do my nails in the morning! I don't think you'll be able to find this kind of dedication to customer service anywhere else. Sarah was extremely detailed and clean with my nails. She is also great fun to chat with and very cute and friendly. I can't speak for the other manicurists but I would come back here just for Sarah. Their prices are also very reasonable - $35 for a shellac manicure. Probably the best price you can find in the lower mainland. Definitely definitely will come back here and recommend everyone I know to give this shop a try ! read more

Excellent customer service! The lady who owns it, Christine, is a charming lady. By the time you leave this place you'll feel like she's your long lost Chinese auntie. She is exceptionally warm, friendly and generous of spirit. She does free nail and foot care for seniors on certain days. The foot care you'll receive here is heavenly. My mother was here with me and she was really concerned about her fungal toenails. Christine assured my mom that the nails were not infected but she was wearing shoes that were too tight and they were ruining her bone alignment and we're damaging her nails. (Nails will build up like calluses on the bottom of the feet due to constant pressure/ injury.) Anyway, Christine could have ripped my mom off for a lot of $$$ but instead did a nice foot care job on her and then went to work on me. This is an ethical business. read more

I saw they got such a high rating and went, but sadly found they were absolutely HORRIBLE. The UV gel nails were terribly shaped and the edges started peeling off in several hours. One of their staffs didn't even use the bonder while doing the gel nail, which was definitely an amateurish thing. I think they probably used to be good, but not anymore since the owner has been changed. I will never go back. read more

Ruby Nails is a great place to have a mani-pedi! Owner Sarah is a fun and engaging person who appears really on top of what's happening in her salon. My friend and I were there today and when Sarah found out I was getting my nails done for my wedding - she insisted I get a French manicure and did not charge me for the tips. I loved it here. Best price in the area for shellac mani pedi. I think the girl that did mine her name was Jenna, she was so sweet and since there was no one else in the place she took her time and didn't rush it. They don't have massage chairs that recline, which is usually part of the experience of getting a pedicure for me, but the chairs are still comfortable. They had a huge selection of colours for shellac/gel polish. And my nails look great. Will go back for sure read more

I've been going to Ruby nails for the past 3 years for gel manicures and massages. They always do a great job. Sarah is so friendly and kind. She makes me feel very comfortable. The prices are reasonable for the service they provide. The gel manicure lasts for 4 weeks, easily. I would recommend this place to everyone 100%! read more

I have been going to Ruby Nails for about 6 years. Regardless of where I live in Vancouver (East Van, South Van, Downtown, Olympic Village), I have always overlooked the more convenient locations and preferred to go to Ruby Nail, even if it's a bit of a drive. They are my preferred nail salon because of their commitment to the best quality for a very reasonable price and their friendly service. I know I will be well taken care of and that they won't let me leave unless their work is perfect. read more

Ruby is the best--a perfect manicure and pedicure with thoughtful, friendly service. You don't pay for "fancy" (more often tacky) decor, because there isn't any. I live on West Broadway (near Alma) where day spas compete for curb space to boast signs with the latest mani/pedi deals. The problem is, with commercial rent being as high as Jimmy Hendrix in his prime, stores fold as quickly as they open. Finding the perfect place to sink your feet into a tub of hot, bubbly water is actually more of a pursuit than one might desire on a lazy Sunday afternoon. This is probably why I found myself on one such day at a professional-looking salon a half block from my condo. Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, which were carefully logo'd was an aesthetically-pleasing sign promoting a $39.95 mani/pedi special. I sunk into an overstuffed leather massage chair and allowed a timid lady with a keen eye for detail to start the revitalizing of my toes. I was quite enjoying the pampering, when a false-eyelashed esthetician abruptly took my hand and started sea sawing my nails. Now I am no cosmetologist, but I do know that is a sure way to split a nail. When I voiced this concern, eyelashes swung her hair extensions to one side and puckered her frosty pink lips. She then informed me that I must be lacking fish oils if my nails were splitting. The manicure was quicker than a Hills episode sans commercials. At the end I couldn't figure out why the white pearl paint I'd chosen looked thick and out of place on my nail beds. There was no fan or UV machine to help the thick goo set into my fingers as I waited and waited for the mute pedicurist to finish her work. Two Americanos and six rag mags later, she was finally done and I must admit my toes looked fabulous. Lashes was trying to convince me to book in for a facial as I attempted to take out my plastic with wet gooey fingers. I ruined a nail in the process, but lashes was more concerned with up-selling her services. I wanted a redo, but I wanted to leave the salon more. So I paid my $39.95 plus tax and tip and swore never to go back again. The place was called Illusion and at the very least it lived up to it's name. Two days and three chipped nails later I was in a predicament. Winter was still three months away, leaving me with no excuse to wear gloves and the thought of going back to that dreaded salon for a polish change, was about as appealing as watching Tom Cruise kiss Katie Holmes in public. Instead I wandered up to another sign-boasting salon past the TD bank around Collingwood and Broadway. That's when I discovered Ruby's. It was late. The store was shutting down as I walked in. I apologized and turned around to leave when a stout Asian woman with a heavy accent and gentle eyes smiled and told me to sit down. She was going to do my polish change. As she assessed the damage on my fingers she informed me I should come back so she could do my cuticles. Suddenly a light bulb went off. Lashes hadn't done my cuticles?! The gentle-eyed woman's name was Christine and she was the owner of Ruby Nails. She took down my birthdate (for a free maincure) and told me to come back in a few weeks. I did and I've never gone anywhere since. All of the staff at Ruby nails are properly trained technicians, but more importantly they provide phenomenal customer service. I once forgot my flip flops and they gave me a brand new pair at no cost. They always ensure your nails are properly dried before you leave and upon your approval, they take your money or credit card out of your purse for you so you don't damage your nails. If you do damage your nails, there's nothing to worry about as Christine always tells you to come back if you have an accident. I enjoy chatting to Christine about her Chinese heritage and her gi-normous family. Sometimes her youngest daughter (who is studying to be a food inspector) will come in to serve the customers tea and help them pick out the trendiest polish colours. Aside from all the little pleasantries that make Ruby Nails such an enjoyable experience, their work speaks for itself. I haven't had a hangnail since last summer and at my Christmas party this year I was complemented on my cuticles ... by a guy! read more

I had a wonderful experience at Ruby Nails!! I went in to get a French manicure with gel (so they used gel over my real nails), and they look amazing. The woman really took her time to shape my nails and kept asking me if I was comfortable while she was working on them. She nicked me once while she was cleaning and cutting my cuticles, immediately apologized and applied some antiseptic to it. Everytime she used a new tool, she would dip it and wipe it with alcohol. As far as price, it was about as much as I expected it to be - $35.99 for gel and an extra $5 for getting a French manicure. Before I left, they told me that if anything happened to my nails, I could come back in and they would fix it for free! Overall, I really liked Ruby Nails! For the same amount of price you can get better quality. There was no foot and hand massage, which I was very disappointed. Lot of places come with massages when you get your meni pedi done. One of the staff there was rough and made my girlfriend's nails bleed. I was lucky that the lady that was working on me was gentle. Because I got the better staff who was working on me, I am being generous to give this place 2 stars out of 5. read more

Kind staff. Mediocre manicure. Chairs don't massage, and the water your put your feet in is just a basin that they have to carry hot water from the back room to fill it up. Paid 51$ plus tax for a mani pedi with regular polish, which is what you would pay at a nice salon with massage chairs. Won't be back. read more

If you're going in for gel uv nail set, save your money. The technician doing them glued only the bottom of the tip so the nails look lifted and then of course get water under them and peel off. Came to give them a chance and girl did the exact same thing again. Very sad. read more

Came here last minute for a pedicure as an impulse with a friend of mine. The reviews seemed good and it was a Monday we figured why not finish off our girls day out with getting our nails done. First off I love that this place cuts seniors nails for free on Mondays. I think that is such a sweet and simple way to show you care about the community. Both girls that were working were friendly and engaging and although they did talk to each other in Mandarin, you could tell they weren't talking crap about you like some places do. They did a wonderful job on both my feet and Sams nails and almost a month later my toes still look great, my only complaint is an easy fix and it was just that the water was a tad colder than I prefer and the machine that is meant to massage your feet broke down, but that isnt really their fault. Anyways for the price point this places is pretty good and they have every nail color known to man. I would definitely come again. read more

I am a long-time customer of Ruby Nails and have always had good service and results. The other day I went in for the usual manicure and pedicure with my elderly mother and a pedicure for myself. Sarah did my pedicure and had noticed that my right foot was very swollen, an issue I've been dealing with for a few months now. She went the extra mile by massaging my foot to improve the circulation. The foot massage was heavenly and I felt an improvement in my foot. While Sarah does not usually do massages at this salon, her training and experience of doing Chinese therapeutic massage was greatly appreciated. I returned 2 days later for a follow-up treatment and left feeling relaxed and whole. Thanks Ruby Nails for a great experience and continuing to provide professional service at a reasonable price. The ladies take care of my shellac nails so well and take the steps to make sure I'm happy with the color, shape and size of my nails. I once had gotten a French shellac and did not like the shape of the tips, and ruby, the owner was so patient with me and actually redid that specific shellac nail from scratch. After seeing all of these great reviews, I decided to give Ruby Nails a try. Christine and Lien did a great job cleaning my cuticles and getting rid of the dry skin on my feet. However, I did not find the place to be a welcoming environment. Christine is not very hospitable, and she ruined my toenail polish by putting the top coat on really thick. She saw this immediately and looked annoyed, but kept piling on the stuff to try to make it look better. I also think the top coat was old. She said I could go back if I chipped any of the nails or anything, but to be honest, I really did not want to go back there again. I want to feel relaxed when I am getting my nails done, not on edge. read more
