We were greeted by each staff member we came across as we made our way to our table. The hospitality was unreal. My husband commended the staff for being so friendly. That friendliness lasted throughout our meal. The sommelier helped my husband choose a wine and came up with some fun drinks for our kids. The restaurant is dimly lit and has a mirrored ceiling. I really liked the red velvet booths. The restaurant had a very cool lounge vibe. The restaurant has great cocktails so get started with one of those. We had a good bottle of wine too so you'll be fine either way. For food we ordered the following: Salt & pepper tofu Prawn toast Dim sum platter - crab, veggie, and chicken Roast meat platter - chicken and pork char siu Seasonal green - pea shoot leaves with garlic Egg fried rice Wok fried noodles My favorites were the salt & pepper tofu, veggie dumpling, pork char siu, pea shoots leaves, and fried rice. The pork char siu was my absolute favorite. If given a second chance, we all agreed, we would order a full platter of just the pork. A half platter wasn't enough. I'm still salivating thinking about it. Make sure you visit this restaurant. It was so amazing. Make reservations because it's always busy.

The bathroom was also super weird, narrow and awkward and so dark that you can't see anything. Of the 2 stalls only one of them had toilet paper in a little roll that wasn't even properly attached to the toilet paper holder. The overall vibe is loud, "club-like," and kind of ratchet, there was a table quite far away from us but the customers were so clearly drunk and loud that the entire restaurant could hear them. We haven't even gotten to the food-- which was below average all around. We had pre-ordered the typhoon crab in advance and it was very expensive, was so over-seasoned, and the crab was not fresh at all. The bbq roast pork (char siu) was okay but incredibly oily and we couldn't finish it. The only passable entree was the fish, but even that was just a steamed fish and nothing to write home about. The service was okay, nothing spectacular but polite enough. The other nice thing was that we got these cute little mah jong desserts and I liked that the outside wall of the restaurant was decorated in mah jong pieces. But overall, this restaurant was my least favorite during our Hong Kong trip and it's just overhyped.

In the few years that Moyo has been part of the HK scene, it has deservedly amassed a following…read morethat can appreciate the fusion efforts of two cuisines that are hard to come by on the island. (#1) The Moyo brand has since grown into a number of other projects that have spanned across the city but it all started right here in Central. Like any of restaurant in the neighborhood, seating is tight. The government restrictions over the last couple of years have made it even tighter, resulting in discounted delivery through various local platforms. Indoor dining is back again, but one never truly knows when a future shutdown is happening. The food has remained high end, seasonal, and completely different from the usual dining options in HK. Whether it's been seasonal truffle tofu-toasts, carbonara infused tteokboki, or their winter friendly Korean style sashimi (bang-eo hwae), it's all very good. A personal favorite is their uni rice, which is quite modest in portion size (#2) but straight bangin' in flavor and texture. And unlike many other Korean restaurants, they have a nice Italian selection of wine that pairs quite well with the dishes. While it's been marketed as a fusion establishment, they also do a very good job in representing traditional options as well. Their bossam ssam plate with samgyupsal (pork belly) is tasty and while not always available, jajangmyun is a nice comfort food option. While I no longer live in Hong Kong to enjoy them, I still applaud their efforts from afar. While the food landscape / foreign community is rapidly changing as we speak, I hope they can continue to remain relevant during uncertain times. ______________ (#1) Italian, Korean. (#2) Oh Hong Kong ... why must you be so small?

Moyo is right across the street from PMQ so if you see PMQ and see a tiny restaurant across the street that is Moyo. We ordered: Marinated Tofu Salad (Lotus root, purple sweet potato, apple): Lotus root was deep fried which provided a crispy contrast in texture to the soft tofu, apple and purple sweet potato gave it a hint of sweetness Drunken Clams (Rice wine Makgeolli, garlic, lemon zest, chili): Clams were cooked perfectly and we were so happy we got this. Kimchi pork pancake (minus the pork): I'm ALWAYS a fan of kimchi pancake. Even though the pancake could stand to be a teeny bit more crispy at the ends, I loved the kimchi flavor. Brussels Sprouts (Korean dwaenjang paste, almonds, peanut butter): This was stir fried and not roasted as I originally thought it would be. I'm not really a fan of stir fried brussels sprouts but it was interesting with the peanut butter taste which I could barely detect because the dwaenjang paste was stronger. The dishes here were more tapas size and I'm glad we ordered that many dishes. Service was on point and friendly. Moyo is a small and cozy restaurant (you're almost elbow to elbow) with a typical tiny bathroom. A definite place I'll need to try again for the kimchi disco fries and Korean Fried Chicken (sorry Alex, I'll not bring you next time, maybe someone else who is a carnivore).

We had many staff ask after our order but we took a very long time to choose. One of the staff eventually advised us on their best and most popular meals and we ordered the soft shell crab salad, the grilled beef salad and the crispy whole snapper. The food was DELICIOUS. I'm not a crazy fan of Indonesian food or at least I thought I wasn't but the meat was soft and succulent and the sauces and all the ingredients were just divine. Thinking about it is making my mouth water. Service was very attentive and gracious and most importantly the music was perfect. Admittedly probably my taste but more important than that, at least last Friday, was that it wasn't too loud and overpowering. I could have a nice conversation with my husband without having to shout but still had the pleasant ambience of good music playing in the background. I can't imagine it would be too pleasant a meal if the ambience as well as the food hadn't been so perfect.

Relatively reasonably priced cocktails, plenty of vegetarian options and a chic space - the place was good. The drinks and the food, both impressive. The pomelo salad with lime leaf, banana blossom, cucumber and Vietnamese mint was nice and refreshing. The Vietnamese mint has something extra to it, that I quite like. The banana blossoms added that earthiness. Thai dry yellow curry of minced impossible meat with lemongrass was a hit. You could wrap that up in the lettuce cups they served, but I happily ate it without it (because coronavirus and I preferred not to use my hands). Saag burrata - the palak paneer or saag paneer, with burrata instead of paneer was very well executed. Pad thai tasted good, but could've been saucier, if I may. The red curry with pumpkin, tofu, long beans and okra hit the spot on taste and creaminess. The moong dal palak tadka - Indian lentils, while good weren't as great as I can prepare at home. (Yeah, modesty goes for a toss :p) The nasi goreng is hard to mess up and was decent. The only disappointment on the food was stir-fried okra. It didn't taste or look stir-fried and was very raw. If it were just the hubster and I, I would've probably have it re-done.  The drinks were refreshing and tasted well. I had one Hot Mama -gin, ginger, chili and homemade ginger beer with dried citrus fruit. This was followed by a Lemon Chilli Martini - vodka, limoncello, pink grapefruit and lemongrass syrup with chilli and again, dried citrus fruit.  The hubster had a Pineapple Kaffir Lime Margarita - tequila, triple sec, pineapple juice and kaffir lime leaves with a dried slice of pineapple.  After a quiet dinner, it was quite a task to get the children to wrap up and get home.  Pictures on the blog - thevegetarianvoyager

Fa Zu Jie was an exceptional dining experience. One we coveted and one we want to enjoy again and…read moreagain and again. I have already secured a reservation in this very limited seated establishment for us to return in January. Not only was the customer service spot on, the set menu dinner was a culinary delight beyond compare. Dinner reservations are set for 7PM for everyone and it took about 2.5 to 3 hours for the entire experience. Let me start with the mystery surrounding this hidden gem. I say hidden, because unless you know where to look, you will never find it. So on D'Aguilar, there is most often a guy during the day who has a little stall selling handbags and other stuff. He is located between Wellington Street and Lan Kwai Fong on the Hagendas Ice Cream side of the street. He is kind of in the middle of this section of street. Well, he is parked right in front of the dark, obscure alley that leads you to Brickhouse restaurant & bar in the back. Right before you hit Brickhouse if you were to walk down that dark no name alley, you turn right into what appears to almost be a dingy, somewhat grafitti covered, white walled resedential building and walk up one flight of stairs. There is a door to what you think would be the entrance to someone's home and you knock. The door had a little Christmas tree ornament on it when we went during the month of December, so maybe they help you out a bit and have some seasonal thing hanging on the door (I am not sure). Because there is no sign and unless you knew this was here, you would have no idea there was a restaurant behind the door. Well, once we knocked, we were warmly welcomed by one of the owners (Chris Leung) and his gracious, young, cool staff. This place feels like a home, not a restaurant. It feels like you have been invited to a big dinner party with a bunch of people sitting at tables close by that you do not even know. You feel like you are seated in someone's Crate & Barrel decorated dining room looking into their ultra modern, simply stated kitchen. There were only four tables of clientele during our visit. Our table sat 4 people, the one next to us was a group of 8 women, there was one table that had a couple and then the fourth table was for a large group of about 12 people. That is it. It was a full house! This is as big as this place is. It is not cramped or tight, it is just a small restaurant. So it is a set six course menu, with a seventh extra course option for an additional ginger souffle for an additional charge (or this was the extra item the night we were there). The menu that outlines the meal does not really do the courses any justice. For example, it might say "snow. yellow crocker" on the menu, but when it arrives to your place setting, the server will go into extensive detail explaining exactly what it is and how it was prepared by the chef. This marketing trick is by design of the Fa Zu Jie team. They do not want you boggled down with the details of the menu. They want to keep the element of surprise in the air. They want you craving the details of the next culinary wonder to next arrive to your table. It is almost like great artwork in a museum...you can get lost in the details of the title and artist and information card next to it explaining all about the actual painting and miss the point of simply enjoying the painting itself. Fa Zu Jie cost us $628 per person. I do not know if this included a gratuity, for I did not pay the bill. They do not serve alcohol and you can bring your own wine with NO CORKAGE FEE. The menu changes every couple of weeks. This place is also CASH ONLY, NO CREDIT CARDS! We are blown away by Fa Zu Jie and their team. This was hands down one of the geniunely coolest, most delicious, welcoming, knowledge growing meals we have had in Hong Kong or anywhere in the world.

The food is passable. This is essentially Chinese food served on a plate with knives and forks…read more There is almost no western influence in the cooking or in the flavors. The food is really bland, almost cantonese-esque, and not much "Shanghai-nese" as suggested. Service was attentive but nothing special. The appearance and cleanliness of the restaurant can do with an upgrade; the stove needs a clean, the ac unit / filters needs a clean, half the light were out, the bathroom is a shocker (duck tape is not a solution), random boxes were placed everywhere, empty wine bottles gathering dust do not impress anyone..... the list goes on. Not again, not this food, not at this price. Oh, please dont use plastic plates.

But given the fame and popularity of its neighbour The Globe, I think SAAM needs to hire a better PR.
