I have lived in the boise area for seven years now and I have just gone to this place. I wish I didn't wait so long. We got the scapegoat salad. Holy jeeze was it good. A scoop of creamy goat cheese, toasted pine nuts, crispy bacon, tomatoes. This salad was all around good and I'd like to order a full size one next time. We also got the artichoke dip. It came out with a bunch of pita bread and steaming. The fist bite I had was cold. Only certain parts of it was hot. The whole thing wasn't hot or even warm. The dip was lacking some sort of seasoning but we couldn't pin point it. Salt or something. It was kinda flavorless. My significant other also got some sushi which he said was really good. We got the Spartan pizza which was supposed to be Greek inspired, but mushrooms are big in Greek food. Should have had Kalmata olives instead of the mushrooms. Barely any feta cheese also. We got a medium pizza and it came out looking like a large. Definitely not complaining. I saw them spinning the dough which is super cool to see. The pizza was good, I just removed the mushrooms. Definitely just order some slices. They have two menus. One for pizza and one for sushi. I did feel rushed when we got to the counter. It was a quick process. The people that brought our food to the table were super friendly. The whole ambiance of the place was great. Oh yea, the crust on the pizza was great! Chewy and light. GASP. How have I yet to review this little 'slice' of heaven! (See what I did there? #Punny.) Perhaps I've had it in my head that since I've been here a handful of times I must have already reviewed it and shared with the Yelp world how wonderful a place this pizza shop is? Either way, I'm now sharing with all of you the glory that is Lulu's... The Vibe here is so fun, relaxed and comfortable. It reminds me of this pizza shop that I used to go in high school that was a few blocks from Newport Beach's boardwalk. It's got that 'come as you are' sorta vibe to it. They have misters on their patio for extra hot days, a cozy indoor dining space, and they frequently host live musicians here. The food is delicious! You can get pizza by the slice, or order an entire pie to enjoy there or take home with you. Their pizzas deviate from the typical cheese and pepperoni (although they have these available). They offer unique combinations of flavor like the BBQ Chicken, Thai-on-one, and my favorite, the Athenian (garlic, spinach, sliced mushrooms, mozzarella, feta, fresca tomatoes, and extra virgin olive oil). Prices are more than Domino's or Pizza Hut, but only by a few dollars (totally worth it IMHO). I've only ever purchased pizza by the slice (which can be done for less than $5). My most recent discovery here is their lunch special - a slice and half garden salad for $6. It blows my mind that ANYONE has given Lulu's a sub-par rating. This is our go-to spot for a slice of 'za. The pizza is thin and crispy and the salads are mounding and flavorful. We wish it was closer to our house because we would go a lot more often! You can order whole pies or by-the-slice, making it a great choice for an anytime meal. Food: I have yet to try something on Lulu's menu that I don't like. While my husband normally gets 2 slices, I almost always gravitate toward the salads, which are huge and super flavorful. The cheese & basil is the best slice of pizza I've had, but my husband claims the jalapeño popper pizza is out of this world. It's hard to go wrong, no matter what slice you choose. The scapegoat salad is my favorite and comes out in a very big portion. The breadsticks are also really unique and a big serving. They don't skimp! We have never tried their sushi. Drinks: Self-serve soda and they always have a lemon/cucumber water. I like that they serve lots of local beers and hard ciders as well. Atmosphere: It's almost always lively during lunch time but it's never hard to find a seat. They have TV's for sports and cute decor up on the walls. I like their big patio and that its dog-friendly. Service: Man, the folks behind the counter are always smiling and happy. They serve up your food crazy-fast, too! That's the benefit of by-the-slice ordering. We've always enjoyed Lulu's beacause it's close snd the pizza is good and the limited sushi bar often fills the need. But lately. often as not the register people have been rude and unhelpful. Went to pickup takeout recently and could not find out if pizza was done or when it would be. Luckily a helpful pizza cook saw my confusion and helped. Wow. Lulu's Pizza is a little out of the way for most people. It sits right at the northernmost edge of North End, right before everything turns into the hills of rich people. It's built into the same building as The Pursuit, and I'm sure it benefits hardily from the weekly exodus of churchgoers ready for some food to distract them from the weight of moral conviction. And apparently they also serve sushi? The place is small, homely, but packed with style. You step in to be greeted immediately by a massive menu board crammed with options. A glass display of by-the-slice choices awaits your decisions, and friendly staff are ready to help you. We chose to go for a full pie, half Pepperoni and half "The Lulu" - a vegetarian option that boasts "Light roma tomato sauce, fresh goat cheese, toasted pine nuts, garlic spinach, and fresca tomatoes topped with balsamic dressed greens." This plus a drink (for me) came out to about $25. Compared to most of our other excursions, this is a reasonable price, but not on the lower end. The wait time did not stand out to us. It took maybe ten minutes? Honestly, we ought to be timing. But what I can say is, I hadn't eaten since breakfast, and I don't recall asking "how long is this gonna take." When the pizza arrived, we were astounded. We knew it was New York Style, but we were still surprised at the size. It simply looked big. The slice sizes impressed us most. The Lulu was an interesting presentation. They had taken all the ingredients and simply topped them toward the center. Our collective thought was it's a salad on a pizza. It already had us impressed. And so, we ate: -Pepperoni- Damn. It explodes with flavor right from the start. I don't know what they're packing in their sauce, but it is rich. The cheese was melted ideally. The pepperonis were juicy and huge. Kenny stated he still prefers a crunchier, dryer pep, but, we both still agreed it was good. That crust was fantastic as well. Not too dry, not flaky, not under-cooked. It was simply soft and smooth. It reminded me of Allegrezza's quite a bit. -The Lulu- Extreme salad. Other than being the cheesiest salad you'll ever eat, there honestly isn't a ton more to this special than that. It's a really good balsamic salad on top of a perfectly cooked pizza crust and a crapload of goat cheese. Now, don't take this to mean we didn't like it. Because we really did. It was a good salad on a pizza. -The Verdict- After having dug in, Kenny and I both sat in awe for a bit, trying to reach a decision. We knew immediately that this was good. But was it the best? Yeah. It is. Maybe not the best, but definitely some of the best pizza we have ever had. This is the kind of place you take your bros or your family when you decide "Lads, it's time we had the good stuff." This is the kind of place you take a girlfriend for an anniversary date. "Why did you come back?" - Lulu's Employee. I am very friendly and appreciate that some of the employees are nice. As well the salad is good. However both times I ordered a pizza pie it was completely charred on the bottom. The first time I thought maybe was just a fluke so I gave it another try and when I noticed the pizza oven hadn't been scraped and my pizza was charging I mentioned it to the employee. They looked at the bottom and said oops but must have thought they were going to get in trouble because they didn't seem to know what to do. I took the charred pizza home but it was not salvageable so I tossed it in the garbage. It felt like I was throwing away money. I spent over $60 on pizza and salad and tip. My children and I shared the small salad and went to bed hungry. When I went in a third time to get a takeout salad I said to the guy at the register who I assumed was the manager that "I had a problem with my pizza last time." His response was "Why did you come back?" I continued to be kind to him tipping him on the salad but in my head I'm thinking "good question". I was pretty shocked. Having worked in the service industry (including pizza chef) I know good product and good service. I would remiss if I didn't let others know about my terrible experience with food and service at Lulu's. The man who was so blatantly rude must be the manager or owner because anyone else would have been fired by now for running off business. I am a talker and an extrovert and enjoy sharing my dining experiences with everyone I meet. There are so many good places to go that there's no reason to waste money on inedible pizza just to be treated badly. From now on my friends and family are giving our business to North End Pizza on 13th Street in Hyde Park and Pie Hole when downtown. Even Domino's is an improvement on Lulu's. read more

Another disappointing data point: Went to LuLu's last Sunday night 2 full hours before closing time ... only to discover they were completely out of slices and were "all cooked out" ... whatever that means. I've gotten begrudgingly used to getting skunked by the "we've quit working for the night" in the last hour of business ... but deciding to stop serving customers 2 hours before close?!? That seems problematic ... oh, wait ... it IS problematic. It's getting harder to say "Let's get pizza ... Lulu's?" at all now when you could get shut out ... even 2 hours before close. It's crazy. It doesn't really matter how busy they might be after the religious rush that hit's them from the church next door ... go ahead and make some more slices, any slices ... (cheese pizza for heavens sake) and serve the customers that show up. Turning away customers hours before close is no bueno. read more

I have to give it to LuLu's. They might feel like a budget Brooklyn joint, but they offer a North End experience worth 5 stars. First, their choice of music is great. In the window, you'll see a neon light in the shape of the Wu-Tang bat with pizza toppings. "Enter the Lu", reads the window decal below. It might as well say "Lu-Tang is here forever", and I hope it is. If you are hip with the hop, you will likely recognize many of the instrumentals played here. Second, the staff is friendly and competent. I might have had one or two sub-par experiences in this realm over the course of a couple of years, but especially these days (mid-2018), they're all polite, clean, and respectful. A very few times I've had subpar pizza cooked on their warmer/oven, but again, during recent times, they seem to have it on lock. It is definitely on the level of Piehole or Guidos, but feels much less trashy. I'd highly recommend: The popper pizza, if you like the kind of cheeses atop. The pepperoni pizza, if you are like me and prefer a simple Brooklyn-style slice. The meatballs. Really solid offering. The breadsticks. Nice and soft, with a side dish of marinara dipping sauce that is great for sharing with 2-4 persons. read more

I try to be understanding of slow service especially during these times. However my friend and I went to dinner at Lulu's on Apple Street and ordered pizza, meatballs as an appetizer and a salad. After my friend got her pizza we were the only people in the entire restaurant and watched the whole staff besides the young man in the kitchen sit on their phones and eat pizza for 30 minutes before asking where our other food was. The girl at the front was rude and said they were working on it. They had clearly forgotten and brought my salad to me with no apology. I ate my salad (It was good! The food is good) and asked if we could just get the appetizer to go. The gal at the front, again rude with no apology, said that wasn't on even on our ticket. I never received a receipt and the price didn't add up to me. I was really looking forward to eating at LuLus but was extremely disappointed in the customer service. I'm a good tipper and regretted it. I hope the owner or a manager sees this and can teach their staff to be polite & some customer service. read more

Dishonest and unnecessarily rude owner/staff has no qualms about trying scam customers. Purchased a Living Social deal for what Lulu's advertised as, "medium pizza, large Valley Green salad, and breadsticks (a $32 value)." When we tried to redeem our voucher by ordering "medium pizza, large Valley Green salad, and breadsticks", we were told that the deal was supposed to be for a 1 topping pizza only and we had to pay extra money for anything else. The Lulu's manager tried to (erroneously) claim that it was Living Social's fault for not stating that the deal was only good for a one topping pizza... This is complete BS. First, according to Lulu's menu, the total value of our order was exactly $29.89, clearly less than Lulu's stated "$32 value" of the Living Social deal they sold. When I tried to explain this to the manager, she was not remotely concerned, and very rudely exclaimed, "it's either my job or your coupon!" because, as she explained--the owner told her not to honor the Living Social deal as it was sold. Second, I'm pretty sure there had to be a signed agreement between Living Social and Lulu's pizza. So, any discrepancies between the advertised deal and what Lulu's arbitrarily chooses to honor is between Lulu's and Living Social. To try to unscrupulously pass this on to a customer is dishonest and just plain stupid, bad business. Again, our order's total was less than the "$32 value", so this issue is irrelevant anyway. It was bad enough that they chose to run a scam, but the completely unnecessary attitude and rudeness from the manager was pretty shocking. Not really sure how a business owner could possibly rationalize trying to scam/screw over customers or expect to stay in business with this kind of conduct. read more

Frankly, I think this is the best pizza in Boise. Everything is fresh, very tasty, the slices are big and the pies are huge! The owners give the restaurant a homey, family fun feel. This is the kind of Pizza place you remember from when you were a kid . . . except the pie is better and the restaurant is much cooler. They have the expected pizzas and some very unique creations. I'm not one to stray too far from the norm with Pizza, but they've talked me in to expanding my palate a little and I really haven't had anything I didn't enjoy. Very nice patio for hot summer evenings. They really support the community as well, the last time I was there they were sponsoring a guitar competition for younger players (teens) and gave the winner a performing spot at the restaurant. They are constantly involved and involving the community. I value that in a restaurant, they make you a part of the experience. I feel like I might be grading unnecessarily harsh for Lulu's. But when you offer up mediocrity and charge an arm and a leg for it, you're gonna get docked as a result. From personal experience, I'm not sure why they emphasize their New York style pizza on their website. I had their large NY pepperoni pizza, and it was easily the greasiest pizza I've had since moving here. Paper towels to soak up the grease were a necessity. I felt stupid for wanting to try a place other than Guido's for a NY style pie. And it's $7 cheaper at Guido's for the exact same style and size. Ridiculous. It took me about two years before I tried them again. I ended up getting a Spartan, a tomato-sauce free pie which included chicken, artichoke hearts, olives, spinach, tomatoes, and feta cheese. The diced tomatoes were nice, marinated in balsamic vinegar which gave the pizza a tangy kick. Even though it's one of those pizzas that doesn't cook long in the oven, my crust was still a little overdone. And they really skimped on the feta, which I love. The overall result was neither bad nor good. But when normally charging $25 for a large, you damn well better offer a stellar pizza, 20" in size or not. A large cheese pizza runs $18.50. $18.50!! I'd expect this kind of pricing if you were in a primo spot downtown, but not coming down from Bogus Basin. It reeks of "Let's gouge the starving Bogus Basin patrons as they come down off the hill." The decor is rather nice, and there's a covered patio that would be great to sit in during the summer months. And I will admit that the people I dealt with were very nice and personable. But I'm done here, because there are better pizza establishments to be had for both basic (Guido's) and specialty (Casanova, which isn't exactly cheap either but offers great and more creative pizza in my opinion). read more
