We went here for lunch on a Wednesday. The big beer hall style tables and benches were all cleaned…read moreand organized, and we were greeted immediately. You can order at the counter or by scanning a QR code from the tables. It was our first time, so we had some questions, which the server patiently answered. He was just delightful- friendly and knowledgeable about the food and the drinks they had on tap. Food was brought to the table as quickly as possible- they cook to order, and we had burgers, a chicken sandwich, and schnitzel platters. The burger people complained a bit about the buns being so big and making it hard to eat, but they were happy with the sandwiches overall. The chips that came with were delicious- not at all greasy, and nicely salted. The schnitzel comes with two sides. One had a salad and fries, the other coleslaw and warm German potato salad. The fries were hot, crispy, and properly seasoned, and the coleslaw and side salad were pretty standard. The potato salad stole the show- warm, baconey, and vinegar forward. Just excellent. The schnitzels were tender and nicely breaded, exactly right. The gravy on the side was peppery, but nothing special. The only disappointment was the bottled horseradish mustard on the table, which had no horseradish or mustard flavor. I wish they had a German mustard or even a spicy deli mustard on the table. Drinks- they have lots of beer, cider, and wine choices on tap, but for non alcoholic and soft drinks only cans or bottles of Boylans. I really appreciated that they have self serve ice water. I wish they had a couple nonalcoholic beers or ciders on tap. Overall, this is a fun restaurant. The pork shanks they were preparing for the evening special looked spectacular, so next time we'll come in the evening!

Delicious as always! Service is impeccable. Atmosphere is German Biergarten style. Plenty of parking on site. Love the ability for the place to offer open air seating. Great place for lunch, an office outing, a place to meet after a sporting event, or even an informal date. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Have I been here before? I'll let you be the decider of that. I've been here in all of its…read moreiterations: I've been to Katie's Pretzels when it was downstairs in the Piedmont Mall, where the now Dunham's Sports is. It was Katie's, and then Katie's moved upstairs, which granted that space available for Boscov's to move in and take reign of the Piedmont Mall once and for all. Until its eventual downfall in 2012. I guess it heard the end of the world was coming and decided to get on out before the going got tuff. Anyway, Dunham's doesn't really do it for me as pretzel joint. I've been to Katie's Pretzels when it moved upstairs into a little space on the corner across from Belk: my favorite location of them all in the Piedmont Mall. Here is where Katie's Pretzels really came into their own. I mean - WHAAT a location!! This ensured I would visit a part of the Piedmont Mall I would never have traversed otherwise. What even IS Belk ?! But all of the wonders of Katie's Pretzels could not have prepared me for what they would enact - and rightfully deserve - next: a name change. Monk's. Monk's Pretzels is a step into nirvana. Babylon. Pure, unadulterated bliss. A name change in conjunction with the name change of the Piedmont Mall to the Danville Mall. This is pure power, folks. This is as fine as it gets. Visit this place at once. 5 stars. Favorite item: orangeade. Medium please!

I almost went for the ham and cheese--which looked good--but I like a pretzel dog, so that was the…read moredirection I took. That proved to be a mistake. The dog, while flavorful in terms of the seasoning, was saturated with grease. And there was no pretzel around this dog. Instead, it was like a brittle puff pastry. Once again, there is no sign that anyone in this establishment understands how a pretzel differs from other bread items. In Germany, this would have been a crime. But the most embarrassing part was the side of potato chips. When I saw them in the storage bin they were being kept in for service, I thought they looked gross. In my basket, they looked worse. Overcooked if not burned. My wife at a couple. I ate one and tossed the rest. Absolutely vile. How a food service manager in that establishment would allow those chips to be served to (over)paying guests is beyond me. Again, like in the other BG eateries I visited, no one cares, no effort is made, and no pride is taken. The guests deserve better standards and some effort to demonstrate that BG appreciates their businesses.
