I got her 4 different cupcakes of different varieties and she loved it. I bought myself some macarons and they were delicious. Service was efficient and friendly. This bakery appears to be a local favourite. **** GOAL of 250 reviews in 2026 - 95/250 total reviews in 2026 - 936 total Yelp reviews - Reviewed on 20 May 2026

I LOVE Pearl's Bake Shoppe. I've been eyeing their cupcakes for a while before finally deciding to…read moretry them, but I'm so glad that I did! I've come back more than a few times to try different cupcakes from this bakery, and it has not disappointed! They always have a line when I stop by of people picking up bakery orders or stopping by to grab sweet treats. They have all kinds of pastries and bakery items: cakes, cake pops, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, pies, macarons, pop tarts and even packaged drinks. I've gotten a few different cupcakes from them. My favorites have been the peaches and cream, top hat cupcake, pistachio raspberry and strawberry vanilla. Their tiramisu cupcake, margarita cupcake and the key lime cupcakes all actually tasted so much like the namesakes! Their cupcakes are mostly perfectly balanced sweetness: I haven't had anything that was too sweet. Their cakes look so beautifully decorated, but I haven't tried any. They look so good though! Everything in there are so aesthetically pleasing, and if the cupcakes are anything to go by, I'd say flavor wise, the other items would meet expectations! Definitely one of my favorite places in Richmond to get myself a treat and wouldn't hesitate to recommend!

It was brusque but mostly not overtly rude, perhaps they were just busy getting ready. I ordered the charcuterie board ($28), a chicken salad croissant sandwich ($14), and the Lavender Bees Knees ($8). The drink was very pretty but not super flavorful. The chicken salad was good enough, but I think the croissant alone would have been wonderful. The charcuterie board had a substitutions I was not made aware of upon ordering (no pepper jelly, blanched almonds instead of candied pecans, and a green onion mixed type goat cheese with bacon in it instead of maple bacon goat cheese). They did add little pickles and the presentation was pretty enough, but no flowers like the owner posted photo on here. The meat was pretty thick which could be a positive or negative depending on personal preference, and the meat was decent quality. The fig jam was very good. The waitress who was helping the other tables had brought my food out but didn't check on me at all. I had to go up to the counter again to order a cinnamon roll ($8) and a coffee ($5) which she brought out to me. The coffee was nice and dark (Cameo blend) and incredibly hot. The cinnamon roll was okay, not very much cinnamon flavor but it was delicate and the icing was decent. The interior was pretty and it was a good spot to read a book and spend a morning.

One was too sweet, another too heavy and the third perfect. I'm glad there is a real bakery in the 'hood. Kroger-bakes are bad for my health and the economy. The proprietor was gracious, but too stressed to smile. The shop is a modern day venture trying to bake and make a profit. I recommend everyone stop in - and support MB. My mom placed the order and was I disappointed. We cut into the cake and the actual cake part is orange. And the icing between the layers is plain white (seems to me same strawberry icing would make and look better). The entire cake had a funny aftertaste. I'm not sure fresh strawberries were used, maybe maybe not. Why on earth would the use an orange heavily textured cake? Why would the employee take the order and not explain that the strawberry cake had an orange colored cake? Btw, the cake itself had absolutely no flavor or taste. I was so disappointed to know this cake was not a traditional or version of traditional cake. People should be made aware of the Mixing Bowls version. It's ugly and the cake was half ass made. As a hobby baker I could do so much better.
