I explained that I had ordered the exact same thing around the same time the previous weekend. The issue wasn't that the meal wasn't available. The issue was the attitude and the way I was treated from the moment I sat down. Donna, you don't have to like me. You don't even have to be happy to see me. But when I walk into a business as a paying customer and treat you respectfully, I expect the same basic courtesy in return. If you personally don't want to serve me, have someone else do it. What you're not going to do is treat me like I'm invisible and then act as though my presence is an inconvenience. And yes, as a Black woman, when I'm treated noticeably differently or with immediate hostility when I have done absolutely nothing to warrant it, I am going to question why. I'm not going to pretend I didn't notice it simply to make someone else comfortable. The funny part? I'll probably be back next week.
