It took me awhile to jump on the lululemon train but once I did I haven't looked back. I still have lulu pants and tops from five years ago that get worn on average once per week and drenched in sweat during crossfit classes. What I love about lululemon is the clothes are so comfortable and manage to not get weighed down by the sweat or clearly tell you have sweat rings AND the pants stay in place so when you are doing box jumps your gut doesn't come out as your pants roll down your belly. Ladies you know what I'm talking about. That being said when I'm in Canada I like to make a stop as the exchange rate is currently in my favor. When walking into this store the sales associate was super helpful. She was nice but not overly pushy. A perfect blend of I'll help you when you need it but leave you alone to shop. The back of the store had a huge sale rack. I ended up walking out with two pair of sale pants I had no intention of buying but couldn't pass up. I realize that I may be disowned from the female gender for saying this, but I'm not a fan of Lululemon. I just don't understand why women (and men now, apparently) feel the need to spend so much money on workout clothes. WHY? This is your typical Lululemon. It looks the same - on the inside and on the outside - as every other Lululemon I've seen. I think that this location might actually be a bit smaller than some of the other locations though. Either way, they all have the same stuff. The clothes are nice but are insanely overpriced. Especially if you consider that most people buy them to work out in them. That means sweat. I don't usually try to look "fashionable" when I work out, I work out to work out and be healthy. They staff here are fairly typical to your normal Lululemon store as well. They are all head over heels for the brand and a little bit snobby too. I find that's pretty normal for Lululemon workers though. I'm not sure why. If you like Lululemon, you'll love this store. If you're like me, avoid it - you can find the same stuff for less than half the price elsewhere. read more

Why do cool yoga clothes have to be so darn expensive?

The new Lululemon on Whyte is now open, and you won't have too much trouble finding it because it's just a few stores down from the old location. The new shop looks like the mall locations, with the signature mosaic tiles on the outside. You can't miss this new location even if you tried, because they have a huge, bright red Lululemon sign right outside their door. I'm not sure if they really have more stuff, or if it just seems that way because this location is slightly smaller. Either way, it feels a bit crowded in here, not spacious like the older shop. The merchandise and quality are still top-notch though (and still expensive), with men and women's clothing for yoga, dance, and running activities. They also seemed to have more gym bags and hoodie sweaters available than last time I stopped by. If you're not exactly shopping for fashionable sportswear, but just fashion in general, they have that too. There are casual but trendy jackets, pants, shirts, and sweaters to wear outside the gym. I like that the jackets are practical because most are water and wind resistant, but they're tailored for female curves, and don't look big and bulky like most functional jackets do. Let me start this one off by saying I don't shop lululemon regularly as I believe the stuff is far too expensive. My dear cousin however worships the hangers her lululemon hoodies rest upon in her closet so I sucked it up and walked in in an effort to find her the perfect birthday gift. I walked in the store and proceeded to smile and make eye contact with an associate who was walking towards me but you could imagine my surprise when she walked right past me to greet and offer assistance to two other women who were just coming in the door behind me. After making such an "awesome" first impression I decided it would be in my best interest to seek out a gift on my own. While walking around the store not once did someone stop what they were doing to offer assistance and 2 out of 3 times what they were doing was chatting with other associates. I think it's great to have a good relationship with your coworkers but when the store is as busy as it was that day you need to spread out and circulate among customers to have the best chance of making every one of them a sale. I have gone through all the other reviews for this store and I won't argue that the stuff is good quality but when you see something like a $23.00 water bottle one needs to admit that some of the markup from this stuff comes from the fact it is a trendy brand name. I would also strongly advise thoroughly reading the care instructions for your lululemon clothing as I can say from years of working at a thrift store the number one brand name we had donated was lululemon from people who did not follow instructions and ended up with shrunken pilled up clothing. I think the store is great for those who fit the look that the brand wants to convey but for someone like myself $98.00 flyaway cardigans are not realistic for my lifestyle or personal beliefs. read more

There is something West Coast gentry that just doesn't translate completely outside of Vancouver. I mean they tell you that "Hey, it's Vancouver; everyone is casual here". But that doesn't mean those grey sweatpants and a T, it means really pricey Yoga wear (or technical wear, think Northface) worn out in public. I'm not sure why anyone feels they need to pursue West Coast fashion anyway. Didn't they give us wool socks and sandals? You know, we have a noise bylaw, a nuisance bylaw, pet bylaws; why don't we have a tight athletic wear in public bylaw? Something along the lines of needing to be a personal trainer to be allowed to. Ladies, I won't wear a speedo to the pool if you don't wear yoga pants into my restaurant. To be fair, the stuff they sell is of really high quality. I'm sure if you actually practice Yoga it's probably a strong choice. I'd bet, though, 70% of the customers that I see in the store wouldn't know the difference between a Yoga mat and a bath mat. For simple casual wear, it's simply too pricey, and hand wash/hang dry only casual wear is anything but casual. I do confess that I stop in once in a while because they do make these light warm jackets in the Spring that take up no space in my luggage and are great for travelling (comfortable on planes and easy to layer). But, unless there is a technical reason, the majority of Lulu wear is too pricey and too high maintenance to make sense to kick around in. read more

Here's the thing. I wear workout clothes around my house to lounge in. I wear them when I am going out for a walk or a run, and I wear them when I am working out. Why would I spend $100 on a pair of pants that I wear in my "off" time? I get it, yes, the quality it amazing and they back up their clothes (if it rips, or there is something wrong with the garmet they replace it), but I just can't fathom spending that amount of money on lounge clothes. I do enjoy going into the store, and for lululemon, this location is my favourite. The staff are always really friendly and there is such a zen feeling when you enter the store, unlike other lululemon's that are bouncing with young teens and tons of people. I give lululemon only 3 stars because the prices are outrageous. I like the store, and the quality is awesome, but for the actual product to cost so much you need to save up for it... it just doesn't seem worth it to me. read more

Let's be clear right from the start - I do not shop in this store, I do not wear their clothing. That being said, I certainly enjoy seeing their clothing on (certain) other people. I stopped by to get a birthday gift for a friend. Didn't want to drive all the way to West Ed, so Whyte Ave was the answer. I realize that this is a "trendy" place to shop, but seriously - is it too much to ask that they put a frickin' sign outside with the name on it? I walked right past the place, as the only marking out front was a "sign" with their logo on it. I suppose that if you know what you're looking for, that's enough, but for the unenlightened types like me, it is incredibly not helpful. I have gone into the Lululemon on Whyte, West Edmonton Mall and Kingsway and I've only ever purchased one warm-up jacket from them (and that's with a $50 gift certificate's help). I have yet to purchase one of their famous Lululemon hoodies. Unfortunately being 5"3, their sleeve lengths on the hoodies (no matter what the size) is still too long on me. Their apparel is nice, but I don't find it any more different from other brands. With other brands, such as La Senza, Victoria Secret and GAP starting their own yoga wear lines at lower prices, I find it hard to justify spending $100+ on workout wear. read more

It's your average lululemon, they all start to look the same after a while. Staff are pleasant and there is a fairly good selection. I just lululemon would carry more coats. I have everything else but I long for a knee length black coat. I do love lululemon... I bought my first pair of pants when I was in grade 7... that was 10 years ago (OMG) and I actually still have them. Quality is amazing, I've never had anything fall apart. This stuff is made of steal... really malleable steal! Anyways I'll keep this short, I love lulu and this location is pretty wonderful. read more

What an amazing experience. First off they are pet friendly which is an added bonus. The staff greeted us as soon as we entered, and were helpful throughout our shopping experience. I was shopping with my 10yr old daughter and the staff made sure that they paid extra attention to her needs. She wasn't thrilled having to go cloth shopping with her dad. Oh, good old Lululemon, you either hate them or love them it seems. I have been a fan of Lululemon since they expanded out here to the prairies. That being said, they are really hit and miss. I can often go in here and see absolutely nothing I really am drawn to. However, there are other times when I wish I hadn't gone in because there's just so much good stuff! Some of their clothing is high quality as well as innovative. A lot of the clothing is cut in a really different way that tends to be more flattering than other gym wear. Most of their clothes are extremely practical as well, which helps justify their price tags. A few of my favorites are the Still Pant crops (which seem to have been discontinued this year), their rain coats (to die for!) and of course the Groove Pants. The Scuba hoodies are very stiff, thick yet snug-fitting, I really don't see their appeal, besides the cute design and colours. You'll get a lot of yuppy soccer moms shopping in here, so beware of the blonde highlights! The customer service is also hit and miss, much like their clothing line. Lululemon has its phases, phases of good and phases of bad. There are times when I want to buy everything in the store because its all so appealing but again there are also times when there is nothing I'd like to buy and those times always come when I've been gifted a gift certificate from there. I really don't understand what people are talking about when they say their work out gear from 5-10 years ago looks the same now as it did all those year ago. I find that all my stuff is pretty beat up and has piling all over it by the first year. I do follow the instructions and wash it the way it should be, which is already too high maintenance of a lifestyle but it gets done. And as of late I'm finding that the newer stuff gets the stitching coming apart within 2-3 times wear. Which at the kind of prices you're paying at lululemon, you kind of expect nokia type of survival for these clothes. At the same time, I have found some pieces have stood up to the test of time, and its all the pieces that are not made from the signature fabric (luon). So its the hoodie(cotton?), the wunder under pants made from pique material that have not in the least shown any wear or stitching or piling. So with these type of results I have decided to buy lululemon only when it's on sale and only buy items made from materials other than their luon. I have found that the Gap, their competitor has come out with a similar type of material to their luon, I got two pairs of pants last year from them at a remarkable price or 20-30 dollars each and I'm really surprised to say that their material has not worn out or started piling. So they have won my vote and future workout purchases. And I cannot state enough how annoying the luon material is, it really is low quality material, everything sticks to it and it doesn't seem to last long. Now as for the service at these locations, I've always found that the stores are all self serve, for people to understand the sizes, how the colours will look and to try out the items and then go home to order online. I've never received any help instore, when I need to try on clothes i just walk towards the changerooms and find an open one, if its busy, usually you have to wait for someone to open one for you but thats it. It's up to you to find the sizes that will work for you, and then put it back later. The staff is there though, usually socializing amongst themselves or making sure the clothes are in place and folded properly, but they never seem to disturb me or my flow of going in and out of the store. The checkout process is much the same, I head towards the checkout desk, stand there quietly as the ladies continue to socialize with each other and put my stuff through, and finish my purchase all without really disturbing them. I guess in a way it works out, I don't bother them and they don't bother me Overall, Lululemon is really overrated and over priced for the product you're getting, there's very few items that are worth getting for everything else there are cheaper priced competitors for better quality read more

This isn't a review for the quality of the clothing, but a review of the Whyte Ave store, itself. The experience that I've had in this store for the last few years was to push through huddles of staff members talking about their day, or to listen to the cashiers have conversations amongst themselves. To be fair, I'm sure this isn't a regular occurence for everyone, but this has been my own experience of the store in the last few years. What prompted this review is that I was trying to phone to get a size check for a gift. I don't live close to any of the stores and thought it might be more efficient to get a size check before making my way over. After a few phone calls through the course of a few days that went unanswered and a voice mail later, I ended up having to go down anyway...to be ignored and to have no size. The irony was that the only time anyone ever acknowledged me (even though the store was at fairly empty) was to say goodbye when I left! Sorry Whyte Ave. I've given up on you. Also, after looking at some other reviews of Lulu, i see that not answering their phones seems to be a company wide policy. I'm sure if someone explains it to me in their company-ese about in-store experience, it'll makes sense. But for my little consumer brain, all i feel is frustrated. read more
