Anthropologie is one of my favourite stores in West Ed! I mean where else can you go to find clothing, decor, housewares, toys and books in one spot? The store makes me feel like I've walked into some wealthy lady's dressing room. Clothes everywhere. Lingerie everywhere. Decorations everywhere. Kids toys. Housewares. Every time I go in I just want to lounge on the settee and have my servants cater to my every whim. OK, back to reality. As mentioned, Anthropologie is a hodge podge (I mean that in a good way) of clothing, decor and books. The clothes can be a bit over the top but the closer you look the more likely you'll find something of interest. The cool thing is they also have kids toys and housewares. It's almost a one stop shop. Another dose of reality is their prices. They're on the high side, but like many things in life you get what you pay for. Often times you can find the decor items at a better price, but by the time you find (if you even do) you'll likely have spend that much in time and effort. If you have eclectic tastes go here and have a feast of eye candy. read more

Anthropologie came onto my radar when I watched the show "Man Shops the Globe" on the Sundance Channel awhile back. I was addicted to this program because it firstly had a host named Kevin who is my idea of the perfect boyfriend (too bad he is gay;()! Kevin is one of the primary scouters for Anthropologie and he travelled the globe to places such as South Africa, Syria,Denmark, Turkey,Rome, London, etc., to seek out the most unique and special pieces for Anthropologie stores world-wide. The program really delved into the purchasing process and the philosophy of Anthro. Kevin always purchased items that were not made in child labour factories and he always went for items that were made by artisans and craftsmen who were singularly employed. Now having said that, the products featured on this show were obviously not all of the products that are in an Anthro. as evidenced by the WEM Anthro. location. It does appear that Anthro. stocks other items outside of the "Man Shops the Globe" scope and this is where the appeal of Anthro. may break down. Some of the items such as the jewellry appear to be made cheaply but they ask a lot for them. These are the type of items that you can get at a market stall for one fifth the price of Anthro. The WEM location is definately worth a look, the store has a clever staging and marketing scheme and it really appeals to my sense of art, culture and design. I liked the items displayed here and most definately plan to go back, while I might not be a great purchaser of most of their items, I know that I can get really good design and decorating ideas. read more

I visited this store looking to buy some work outfits. I left because of how rude the staff was. I was never greeted, even though I passed by the greeter several times. When I walked by the till, three of the employees just stared at me. It was very rude and intimidating. read more

I've been meaning to write this update for a while, and I finally have a spare minutes, so here goes :-) When I was first pregnant, I was having a lot of trouble finding clothes that didn't feel like they were robbing me of my personal style. Seriously, maternity clothes are, for the most part, generic and boring. I'm not a jeans and tees type of person, but vintage offerings in maternity wear are few and far between. One day, on a whim, I decided to wander in to Anthro and see if honey had anything that would work. I was also very much wanting things that would work for both during and after pregnancy, and this seemed like a good place to start. I was not disappointed! After picking a few things out for myself and heading to the fitting rooms, I was asked by one of the lovely sales staff if there was anything I needed help with. I explained that I was looking for bump friendly attire, and they got to work right away scouring the store for styles that would work. I ended up with so many choices, I had a hard time deciding! I ended up with an empire waist dress with pleats around the waist, a light, stretchy trapeze style t shirt, and an empire waist shirt in a lovely jade green. The dress is still on of my favourites, and it's perfect for breast feeding sa sing to has no straps. I really feel that the staff went above and beyond to find things that would work for me and my belly, and the whole experience only reinforced why this tore has been a favourite of mine for so many years. read more

Clothes at Anthropologie used to be so feminine. They were made for real women, not high school girls. But the store changed in the last couple ofyears, and now everything is baggy and bohemian. Not flattering at all. Very disappointing. read more

I'm not sure when it happened, but I have fallen in love with Anthropologie. When the store first opened in WEM, I peeked in and brushed it off as being way out of line with my normal preppy-casual style. A year or so later, a good friend of mine started posting pictures of her Anthro finds on her blog, and I decided I had to give it another chance. Finding items in the store is a little like a treasure hunt. The racks always seem to be in different places when I go, which gives me an excuse to browse through all the racks. I find the fit and style of their dresses to be perfect for my body type, and always receive many compliments when I wear them out. I love that most of them have cap sleeves or decent sized straps, they're both more modest and comfortable than a lot of other summer dresses. Anthropologie also has a lovely selection of kitchen aprons, with flowered patterns and lace details that make them almost too nice to wear in a kitchen. They don't have the full catalogue of clothes that are on the website, but this isn't unsurprising considering the size of the store. The customer service here is exceptional. The staff is friendly without being overbearing, and I appreciate being able to browse on my own through the racks if I want to. Last fall I purchased a dress with a silk overlay to wear to a special event. After the event, I noticed a non-repairable hole in the silk. Even though it had been worn once and was brought back two months after purchase, the store issued me a full refund, no questions asked. I love everything about shopping here and highly recommend checking them out. read more

Usually I adore the eclectic styles and unique items and I still do. However, will not ever frequent the west Edmonton mall location again as the staff were so very rude. Following customers around the store, whispering to one another. This wasn't me this happened to; I noticed this happening to another customer, then another. Perhaps these high school behaving staff were treating me this way as well and I was so shocked that I didn't notice! Snobbery is unkind, uncalled for and down right ridiculous as customer service representatives! Never again will I frequent the west ed local! read more

Just aight for me. I suppose it's great for those looking for flirty, ultra-feminine, bohemian wear (and lots of pastels). Everything looks like the same outfit worn 100 different ways. *Sigh* Oh, Anthropologie, why must you tease me so? I love this place, despite all its ridiculously over-priced merchandise. And it's not even all made in non-third world countries :( Suffice it to say, I can never bring myself to buy anything here at regular price. I just can't justify it! But everything is oh sooo pretty, with a feminine, boho-chic flair. The cargo pants in all kinds of colors, the frilly skirts and summer dresses, and the silky tops that would go so perfectly with almost everything ... it's all too much, really ... I need to take baby steps when I enter this place, otherwise I put myself in danger of free-falling into a blind shopping spree. Not good. As if the clothes weren't enough, they have to tease you with beautiful home decor items, like the prettiest teacups you've ever seen, and adorable bohemian print aprons, and soft, plushy bedding to match your pretty apron ... you get the idea. But all is not lost! They DO have sales once in awhile, so it's worth it to go then. Plus there's always their sale room in the back where they try to get rid of all last season's stuff, still perfectly good and pretty. At least you're saving a few bucks that you can put towards ... ooh, that sweet teapot on the display shelf over there ... :) read more

I love Anthro !!!!! I love the style of their clothing, the uniqueness of their house wear and I adore their scented candles. They have a lot of wonderful inspiring books as well as cooks books; both of which I have picked up over the years. Yes, it's expensive but some of my most favourite pieces in my wardrobe are from here. The ambience of Anthro is so down to earth and trendy. Plus, it's featured in my all time favourite movie "She's the Man" My best-friend and I have always joked that we can't wait to get married because then we would have joint-bank accounts and be able to buy all the Anthro our hearts desire..... I love Anthropologie. Hands down they carry some of the most interesting merchandise in West Edmonton Mall. Granted, I'm biased because I love the retro look of their clothing and housewares, but I get so sick of seeing the exact same stuff in all of the stores. Yes, Anthropologie is expensive but I'm okay with that for two reasons: 1) the quality is superior to most other stores in terms fit, materials, and construction, and 2) they stand behind their products. When I had a drawer knob I'd purchased their break for no explicable reason, they replaced it without a hassle even though I was long past the return period. I haven't had a problem since so I likely just had the misfortune of buying a defective knob. I figure, these things happen: the true test is how you fix a bad situation. The staff here are obviously well trained. They do all the things I appreciate from the retail experience: greet you as you enter, leave you alone to browse, are easily to find when you need help, and go above and beyond to help you find what you're looking for. The last time I was there, one staff member went out of her way to check if another location had my size in a dress I was eyeing without me even asking if she could do that. Awesome. read more

Unique household items and women's fashion is the best way to describe the eclectic style of items found at Anthropologie. I love that I can buy a skirt and pair it with a bunch of basics I already own and look different enough to be remembered. This location is interesting. Right inside the mall - positive is they get more foot traffic; negative is that detracts me from going as often as I would otherwise because of how busy West Edmonton Mall is. Parking is hard to find at the best of times, and once I was just going to return an item and it took me over 20 minutes driving around the parking lot to find a spot. To get nit-picky I don't like how often they rearrange the whole store because I often cannot find an item that I had seen a week ago. Additionally, the items are also on the pricier side, especially the accessories, so you have to be feeling rich when you walk in. However the items go on sale often so if you keep your eye on the sale room you can often find some great steals! The staff are fantastic. Always willing to go the extra mile, including phoning a different store to find the size you need, or helping during a complicated return. The staff is what takes this store from good to great. read more

Lovely clothes and cool retro décor items for the home all in one store! I think I paid more attention to the house stuff than the clothes, until I entered the sale section! Lots of funky and trendy clothes and many marked down a lot. Makes you wonder how much the mark up is?! I was able to snag a pair of pants for $20! Amazing when you consider the regular price was something like $148. The fitting room area is nice with seating and magazines but the banging doors get annoying. Good service, even for close to closing time and they didn't rush us out. Will be back to check out the sale items and hope some of the house stuff goes on sale too! Great place for items that you wouldn't be able to find in any store in the mall. read more

I seem to be on a roll with those super positive reviews lately, but I just can't help it. I love love L-O-V-E Anthropologie! Stupid expensive prices aside, this store is perfect. It's heaven to walk into. Visually, the store is chock-full of gorgeous clothing, accompanied by pretty hardwood floors and delicate kitchen ware, bedroom linens, and accessories. The store tickles my other senses, too. It smells amazing and the clothes here feature a huge array of fabrics for a variety of feels. Although I almost always head straight back to the sale section (which is awesome), it's worth taking the time to browse through the story, if only to appreciate the fine craftsmanship of the garments and gain some outfit inspiration. Just don't let the price tags scare you off from making it to the sale room at the back. Once you get back there - be prepared. Mega-savings are in store for you. Yes, the clothes are still expensive, even after the discount, but the discounts are pretty extraordinarily massive all the same. And the clothes are gorgeous. Beautifully patterned skirts, lacy tops, the best dresses. I must have close to 10 Anthro dresses now, and they remain some of the favourite items in my wardrobe. I've always encountered excellent service here, too. I especially appreciated when they accepted my birthday coupon of 15% off a month late because it didn't arrive in the mail on time. I love each Anthropologie store I have been to, even though this one is not quite as spectacular as some I have been to in the States, it is still a great shop to see. I especially love the home decor area and if I had an unlimited budget, I'd be buying a LOT of it...especially the antique pieces. I saw this store, as I was about to leave West Edmonton Mall and after being in that huge mall all day I couldn't wait to get my tired butt home. But I saw this store and I pushed myself to take a closer look. This store has a bit of everything. It actually reminds me of my favorite store, Urban Outfitters, but with higher class. They have some really nice articles of clothing that have a vintage or retro look to them. They are just really nice and classy looking, especially their dresses. I do have to say that this place is expensive, but it's almost worth it because everything they have is pretty nice. I saw this one dress, it was a blackish gray color and it was made from lace or something close to it and it had this really nice blackish gray rose shape stitched on the side of the waist. Anyways, it was a very pretty and simple looking dress, really classy looking and it was about $158. Their store is pretty big so it's fun to just slowly walk around and see what they have. They have some nice pieces of jewelry; I really liked a pair of rose shaped earrings for $38. Not only do they have a collection of awesome clothes, but they also have a section devoted to women's lingerie and nightwear. They have some really cute, short lace nightgowns in some great colors; the one I liked was a plum color. They also have a home accessory section. They have a collection of great looking dishes, but what I really fell in love with was their selection of old vintage door handles and cupboard handles. They were all really great and when I get my own house I know where I'm going to spice up my doors! They have some classic novels like Jane Austen and Charles Dickens and other classical writers. You could also find these fancy looking hard covered books at Chapters or Indigo. They also have some pieces of vintage looking furniture like a china cabinet in this nice looking indigo blue color. The whole store is a treasure and I'm happy I found the strength to keep walking so that I could look around in this great place. The store is very nice, neat and extremely well kept. I almost didn't want to touch anything because I didn't want to ruin their displays. The staff was very sweet and super friendly. I believe I found another great store that I love and will keep coming to just to look at things because I don't think I could actually fit into anything, yet. read more

I didn't like Anthropologie the first few times I visited, but I've decided that it is a great store. They stock designer denim and clothes from assorted brands. It's a little pricey, but there's a sale room in the far left corner with some really good markdowns. I saw a lot of feminine, colourful pieces. I really like the housewares section, because everything is whimsical and colourful. They have a small selection of toys and children's books, which would make wonderful gifts. read more

After a crazy long day their is nothing finer than sitting on a big comfy chair and soaking in the visual delights of Anthropologie.This is one of the biggest locations that i've been to but props have to go the merchandising team for keeping this store feeling like a bunch of little boutiques in one. True they don't have the same kind of service that small shops can offer but on most of my visits and there's been a lot they do a good job of covering my needs.Things can get crazy on the week-end so opt for a tuesday morning and you can be assured that they will find your perfect pant size and help you find just the right door handle for your fussy aunt! Unfortunately all that service and uber merchandising is going to cost you so be ready for a bit of a dent to be put in your wallet. But their super soft cotton tee's,house brand jeans and pants and floaty silk dresses have always been a mainstay in my closet. I rarely buy jewelry here as it's lovely but a tad overpriced and can be found at smaller ethnic shops for less.Same for books. Although they have a huge sale area that i shop through alot i never seem to get lucky with the fit of the sale clothing so make sure you try the stuff on and lucky you if it fits well! My best sale items-mugs,candles,undies and handbags. A definite store to shop at and put on your wish list for people who like to give you gifts. read more

So, if you have not been to Anthropologie, you must make your way there, just to see it. I will give them the obvious - the styling of their store itself is wonderful, let alone the chic, hipsterella styling of the clothes, accessories, cosmetics and housewares that they sell. HOWEVER... The price for the quality is beyond ridiculous. I challenge you, upon your (previously mandated ^) trip to Anthropologie, to look at the tags, first look at the price, then look at the country where that product was manufactured. Most of their products are produced in countries that are infamous for their child and slave labour, or at least incredibly underpaid labour with terrible working conditions. This past January, I bought myself a pair of earrings from Anthropologie as a birthday present for myself (so nice of me, I know). I LOVED these earrings, they had a "gold" hook and had little pink gems dangling from them. Now, these costume jewellery earrings cost me $50.00, and I'm well aware that you can not buy a pair of gold earrings like this for $50.00 so I wasn't expecting them to hold up like the crown jewels. I guess I assumed that if I were to invest a bit more money than usual in a costume piece - it would hopefully hold up better than other costume jewellery. This was not the case. Within 2 weeks, the "gold" finish was wearing off revealing an ugly dark metal beneath. This made the entirety of the earrings look dirty and faded and way less pretty. All in all, I was extremely disappointed. So, even if Anthropologie lures you in with their beautiful shop and intriguing clothing, before pulling out your Visa please consider the quality and ethical production in alignment with the price of their products, it's all good until you get home and the spell is broken. read more

I came in for the first time today to see if they might carry anything interesting for the hard to shop for people on my Christmas list and I have to say.....I just don't get it. I give them points for carrying a wide range of beautiful home decor as well as clothing items and setting up their store in a way that showcases how items could work well together in your home but the prices are ridiculous! I am not implying the items are low quality but I was pretty unimpressed when I picked up a lovely blanket and saw the $89.00 price tag knowing that there was something similar offered at Chapters that was thicker and warmer for half of that price. I am not the type of person that is willing to pay extra money just to have a coveted brand name on my clothes and household items therefore today's trip is likely my last. read more

I'm usually a pretty positive reviewer but I can't see what all the fuss is about with this store. All it seems to be is an expensive Urban Outfitters- just another American chain store that has everybody so enamoured. Almost everything there is their private brand that's made in china and probably costs $5 to make but is sold for $150... sad... Yes they have some cool jeans, but so do independent stores... I guess Edmonton just really loves chains. read more

What an interesting store! At the risk of sounding like somebody who just landed on Earth from the Moon, I will say that I have never been inside an Anthropologie store before. I have passed it a million times but never went in. When I finally did, I spend a good chunk of time admiring what this store had to offer. Most of the clothes sold here are not really my style, however I appreciated their uniqueness and beauty. The best way to describe clothes sold at Anthropologie is retro with the hint of modern sophistication. Every item of clothing looks like a piece of art. Not a single item is plain and boring, and even simplest cotton T-shirts come with embellishments and other intricate details. I really liked Anthropologies' selection of dresses, blouses, jackets and outerwear. I fell in love with a trench coat the price tag of which read "$500". Ouch! I noticed that most items are made of cotton, silk, wool and linen. In underwear section I found several silk bras and bloomers (I just learned that word) that looked very cute but cost way too much at $200 each. There was a sales rack, but I didn't find anything good on it. The main collection at the full price is what impressed me the most. I will slowly but surely introduce Anthropologie clothes into my wardrobe because buying too much too fast will result in retro overload. read more

Love love this store...always have! I sure missed it when I first moved here from California but alas it finally is here! And it only took 11 years..teehee. The store is like walking into a dream. So many beautiful gorgeous somewhat funky clothes and lovely colourful items that are screaming for me to take home. If only I could...pockets seem to only hold so much money. I recommend this shop for the everyday girl, the uptown girl, the sassy girl and the wild at heart girl. There's an outfit calling for you!! I would say the price point is reasonable since everything is made very well. And yes they have sales too!! Makes me smile and say "ah" when I walk into this stores. read more

Can I just say that I LOVE this store? The atomosphere is beautiful and quirky, with great attention to the smallest details. Their clothing is absolutely gorgeous and their housewares are funky and unique. There are some awesome deals to be had if you check out their back sales room, but you may not find what you have had your eye on as items move fast in this store. If you can't live without it, make sure you buy it the first time you see it :-) This is not a bargain store for sure, but they definitely have unique and beautiful items that will last for many years to come. read more

I have always loved shopping here. Every year make I sure I have a little spurge my birthday month as you receive a discount if you're an Anthro member. I was more than disappointed this month. The service was horrible. Maybe I just chose a day when staff were off of their game but I don't like to make excuses for bad customer service. Especially considering the prices you pay at this store. I wasn't even acknowledged by the staff for the first 15 minutes I was in the store (and yes, they saw me enter the store and passed me several times). When trying things on, I wasn't offered any assistance (Can I look for a different size, etc.), Unfortunately I'm not a size 10 or under so finding the right size in this store has always been a bit difficult for me but, there has always been so much variety and exceptional service in the past that I always keep going back. I was looking for a specific blouse and they had it in stock (cost of $98). They unfortunately didn't have it in my size and didn't offer to order it in for me either, which they have certainly done in the past. I'm glad the turn in the economy hasn't effected them and they have no issues with turning away $100 sale. To top it off, after I left I realized they hadn't applied the birthday discount either. My husband suggested we go back but I left the store feeling incredibly deflated and didn't want to return. I'm sure I will shop there in the future but, if this is the new standard of service at the Edmonton store, it won't continue. read more
