Pizza was pretty good, but not the best I've ever had - not to knock it, though. Hand tossed crust and crispy crust edges. Others at my table got the baked pasta combo, child's spaghetti, and the homemade italian sausage (which we were told is why the food took 25 min, not sure why). They all approved. The salads came out, which was about 1/2 cheese and 1/2 lettuce, in small wooden salad bowls - old school. The interior is dated but inviting with character, which makes it unique. Dark dining room, old school paper menus with the outline of Italy, a 360' mural on the wall, wood booths, and pictures of years past all add to the character. I've had better, I've had worse. Came here for the first time since moving to akron. Everyone I have talked to says Luigi's was amazing and they definitely weren't wrong. We split a salad (with a mountain of cheese!!!!), a small white pizza, and a combination platter! The food was delicious and I especially loved the pizza and rigatoni. To me it's kind of similar to a papa John Pizza. The pasta is just ok... like a good frozen baked ziti. And then the worst one dish came in... The meat balls with tomatoe sauce, the texture of the meatballs is just weird. Doesn't taste like beef either. To describe the texture and taste is kind of like an ultra firm tofu with a bunch of pizza seasonings (those you'd get by the counter, garlic powder, dry parsley, etc...) but without salt! Well this place was definitely worth the half hour wait! Don't be deceived.. the line is long but it moves very quick. This business knows how to run! We had a group of found and the line was down past the end of the building.. only waited thirty minutes. We ordered the cheese salad and two pies. One with pepperoni and one with sausage peppers and onions. They were both DELICIOUS. only complaint is there was not enough dressing on the salad. Easy fix, right? They gave us a large cup of dressing on the side. And they sell their dressing there, which is good. Because it is the best vinaigrette dressing you'll ever have. The worst service we've had ever in our dining experience. We waited an hour and a half for our meal with constant repeating every 5 minutes that our meal would be out soon. But our waitress was really grouchy, rarely came to refill drinks and was generally irritated when we had questions about the menu. Went here for the first time after a friend suggested it and being from an Italian family I am always skeptical of "italian" restaurants because it never tastes truly authentic. The decor is definitely very old school, could use some updating if your into that kind of thing, but for me if the food tastes good who cares. You need to get here early...if your going for lunch you better be there right at 11 because at 1130 the line is out the door! I ordered the sausage and meatball sampler with a side salad. The cheese on top is the best, it makes their salad stand out from everyone else. The meatball and sausage in their sauce with melted cheese was delicious, I will say that I didn't care much for the sausage, it was very sweet and didn't have much of a bite to it but everyone is different. Whether you are interested to find out if this is the restaurant loosely featured in the comic strip "Funky Winkerbean" or just want to understand why there is often a line out the front door - you will appreciate this gem. My first piece of advice is to get enough cash before you go - credit cards are not accepted. I feel like locals may be allowed to write checks; but allow $15 per person in cash and you should have enough cash unless you are also drinking for hours - then, well - you win. My second piece of advice is no matter what you get - start with the cheese salad. It's on the menu as "salad with cheese" but the mound of grated cheese on top of the shredded iceberg lettuce definitely outweighs the "salad" - so don't skip this unless you are lactose intolerant. The salad is fresh and delicious with an oil-based dressing, a few token radish slices and olives. It is also served with a basket of fresh bread and butter/margarine. Don't fill up on the bread - your entree is the reason you are there (but the cheese salad is really a close second). My third piece of advice is, if you are there for lunch, do order the "slice and salad" combination. The pizza is really good and I have not yet ordered a partially baked pie to go (to finish in your oven) but would do so if my oven were not 3+ hours away. If you are there for dinner - go for one of the baked pastas. The sauce is available with or without meat ... I mix it up - I typically go with the baked ziti with meat sauce but mix it up with cheese ravioli once in awhile. It is covered in cheese and baked. The sauce is not spicy (I add a bit of crushed red pepper flake) but very, very good. My final piece of advice is plan to allow for waiting. The restaurant is larger than it looks but still smaller than demand requires at time and the line up the center aisle fills up quickly at traditional meal times and will extend outside the door. There are no reservations - so if you have a large party; draw straws to arrive early enough to secure a table for the rest of the guests. The wait never feels too long to me (and I have waited an hour) - definitely worth it for the taste of nostalgia. For me, I am willing to eat lunch at 3pm or dinner at 3:30pm as long as it's Luigi's. (I will literally plan the entire day around going when the restaurant will not be as busy) read more

Their house dressing is a must try here with a salad. If your stopping in for lunch, their salad and slice is a great option. It's served quick and it's a great deal. Pizza cones in plain cheese or pepperoni. I personally love the baked rigatoni with meat sauce. The salad along with the main meal typically gives me enough for dinner and then lunch the next day. The last time I stopped in we tried their gelato and it was so good. I'm not a huge ice cream person and I'm very picky about flavors, but this one was amazing. I would highly recommend this place and they do have a bar so alcoholic drinks can be available if your there outside of your work day. One very important thing to remember is that the only accept cash and check. No credit cards are accepted, but it you forget your other methods, they do have a cash back system them.
