We stopped in Sylva on the way home from our mountain vacation and found this restaurant. Their take on gravy was different, but appetizing, little darker with a hint of spice. Puts a different twist on biscuits and gravy, my boyfriend didn't care for, but a perfect addition to chopped beef and onions. The boneless chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The waffle was thick, but soft and moist. We waited 30 minutes for a table but that was to be expected. Our waitress on the other hand was the reason I gave this review a four. She wasn't very attentive and we had to continuously ask for refills, napkins, something. I really enjoyed the small town feel of this community and would love to return and explore on the next visit. The menu offered a variety of options including huevos rancheros, Benedict's, burgers, traditional breakfast, corn beef, and even classic sodas in a bottle. Horrible service once the food was dropped off no fallow up or anything other than to ask how the check would be paid My husband ordered a bacon and cheddar omelette and it must have had2 pounds of bacon in it hardly any cheese whatsoever I had the sausage gravy and it said it was a little spicy yet it was so very spicy and I got two biscuits with two cups of gravy absolutely unnecessary amounts of stuff in there dishes yet the huddle house parking lot was packed next time we will be there people wonder why business's fail well let's start by portion control and train your staff to service the tables better and to not be discussing food with a cook that the waitress said taste like dirty but hole absolutely disgusting read more

What a fantastic find for a late breakfast. Fresh food, locally sourced, with vegan options too? Yes!!! The Greek omelet with rosemary potatoes as the side was absolutely delicious. Yes Diamonds here, whether RYE or SKY. My daughter and I (along with her 1 yr old son) had the privilege of dining there TODAY. I cannot say enough good things about it. I had the Huevos Rancheros with Rosemary potatoes. My daughter had Cheesy eggs and sausage to share with the baby and a Belgian Waffle. When my scrambled eggs were almost gone, I commented to my daughter sadly that "... they tasted like MORE" One of the places this restaurant SHINES is presentation. The Chef/Owner understands that we first "Eat With Our Eyes." Covertly looking at the entrees around me confirms that he really DOES understand that. MY town, Franklin, has a previously promising restaurant THAT SIMPLY DOESN'T HAVE A CLUE and another super star that has lost it's way. It was nice to know someone understands. The second thing Lucy's does well is service. I have to say that our waitress was the most attentive and responsive I have experienced in decades. Before you discount "my fluff" I am a harsh critic, did I say HARSH? I admit that my daughter often has to temper (PUN intended) them. When I dine out, I have certain expectations. Lucy's exceeded them, in quality of food, presentation and service. I am now retired, but through my career I have had the privilege of experiencing Michelin Star restaurants in 12 states, 7 European countries and in total 5 continents. He doesn't have one. In Sylva, NC, he likely never will. Nevertheless I will be back. The only (slightly) negative comments I have are 1: they offer extra charge SIDES of virtually everything, everything except Corned Beef Hash. For me at my stage of life, that is nostalgia. And 2: This would have been even better with a glass of Champagne / Cava / or Prosecco. Lucy's is good now but has the potential to be a break out STAR. Keep it UP, PLEASE !!!!! My prediction! Just had the best breakfast! There were 6 of us and everyone had something different and everything was delicious. Our favorites are the Babylon Benedict, Smoked Gouda Quiche, and the "Ringo". We wanted to love this place as we have a new student at WCU and plan to come to town frequently. Lucy is in a great location and we got seated immediately, but it went downhill from there. The server got one of our orders completely wrong, from the drink to the food. The problem is that she never came back to check that everything was ok and so he just went ahead and ate it, scraping off the stuff that he didn't want. We never did get a drink refill until we finally got her to give us the bill. I was happily surprised that they had a gluten-free bread option but almost laughed when they brought me my avocado toast. For $7 plus the gluten-free up charge, I got a single small piece of bread with a tablespoon of avocado on it. This wasn't listed as a "side" but I'm not sure how this would fill anyone up. Really, 2 pieces of bread for $7.70 wouldn't have cost them much but would have made my whole experience 100% better. read more

I guess there are biscuits and then there are biscuits. Biscuits served at this lovely spot in Sylva, NC are the tops! They are soft yet the top and bottom are ever so slightly crusty. The texture is that of a well knit net with a little give. Spread some room temperature butter on it and you can feel heavy and add to it some of their homemade strawberry jam and you can experience the celestial realms!!! Simple delish. And their rosemary baked potatoes --- awesome --- bold yet mild enough not over power your taste buds. The trick the chef uses was in using dried Rosemary with some other herbs. The Florentine eggs Benedict were also a delight to dig into. The Greek omelette was a let down. It had too many cherry tomatoes (ends were not removed) and not enough feta cheese. The egg was more on the leathery side than fluffy and soft. But the service was great and our server Olivia was attentive and gracious. Nice spot for breakfast. They also do lunches. read more

I had breakfast here a couple of months ago while traveling in the area. The food itself was very good to excellent...although it definitely could have been a bit warmer. What I didn't like was the wait person (Nicole) who really wasn't particularly warm or polite. She seemed put off by my asking about the restaurant being "out" of a definite breakfast staple...I had just seen it served to someone at the table beside me. Any basic cordiality from her frankly seemed rather forced. Disappointing... I did go back to the restaurant a little while later that a.m. to pick up something from the bakery. 2 of the ladies with whom I spoke at that point were quite nice. So that helped. read more

Opens early in the morning and closes at 2pm. Serves breakfast and lunch while it is open. You can order breakfast or lunch at anytime. Wait staff is always nice. Hostess is always nice. Food is always great. They have indoor seating and an outdoor area with several tables. It is a little pricey, but definitely worth it. read more

I'm new to the area (moved to Dillsboro with my partner in September, from Black Mountain, NC) and this rest has swiftly become our go to place for Sunday "brunch". The single not so great aspect of dining here is that it is SO popular on Sunday at 11:30-ish that we often have to wait for a table... hint: expect a long wait on Parent's Weekend at nearby WNCU. On occasion their wait staff is short handed, so service suffers a tad... that said, the menu is very rich in both breakfast and lunch type selections, many of the choices are unique and interesting (that said, they've got all the basics covered), the ingredients are always fresh and the breads/pies/pastries amazingly delicious, and going on at least 6-7 visits we've been yet to be disappointed by the food. The ambiance is busy but nice, generally, lots of young adults and their families, many couples and small groups of friends. They do offer a small outdoor "sidewalk seating" area, but honestly, I don't see the attraction... last, but not least, it's great value for the high quality... you can pay more literally down the street and get far less quality and selection. LITR rates with any of the better restaurants in Black Mountain, Asheville, and Charlottesville, VA of which I'm most familiar. read more

I went to LUCY IN THE RYE on 3 accounts. I have been a waitress for 30yrs and know how the tipping scale works. That said i got chased out of the establishment by the owner claiming i never tipped every time i came in. He was not there for the first 2 times i had been there and assumed i didn't tip however i had tipped the waitresses those 2 times. Today was a day i didn't tip on the account there where several things that happened such as bussing my own table finding a eggshell in my food and not having all of my order on stuff it came with. I am a firm believer from working in the industry that you don't mess with ppl who mess with your food so i didn't say anything. So i didn't tip. The owner explained that he under pays his staff and grosses a million dollars. I told him that with the million he made should be paying his staff then and proceeded to call me a liar. I informed him that i could show him the evidence on the plate. I have never been chased out and kicked out of an establishment demanding i tip someone. If you don't want to be harrassed for a tip for bad service don't go here. read more

I was so excited to finally try one of my town's newest restaurants. We went for Saturday brunch, and were seated outside very quickly, despite there being a large party in front of us. The staff was wonderful - friendly and helpful. They were flexible when my son joined the group at the last minute, and accommodated my impromptu to-go order for my daughter. Between the four of us, we had Belgian waffles, salads, eggs Benedict, grits, and a BLT. All were delicious, including the yellow grits - which they know how to make just right!
