This is the second time that my wife and I have eaten at Lucky's since JR's closed when COVID struck in 2020. JR's was one of our go-to's, and now Lucky's has achieved that status. This is also the second "5 Star" review that I have given this restaurant. Rather than reiterate all of the pluses about the restaurant's food and ambiance - which I mentioned in my first review, and which are just as good now as they were two weeks ago - I want to focus on the waitstaff! Our waitress today, Celeste, is just as FANTASTIC as our waitress was in our first visit. She is fun and friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. She kept our table well served without ever being at all intrusive. I would like to give Celeste "6 Stars" and an "11" on a scale of "10", much like "This Is Spinal Tap"! I am beginning to sense that ALL of the staff here are equally GREAT! If not, my wife and I can only hope that our servers are either Celeste or Diane on any future visits - which will be many! We came for dinner on an unusually busy night. Our server, Matthew, was covering a lot of tables and never once appeared anything but professional. All of the staff seemed genuinely nice and welcoming. Our food was worth the wait and was delicious. Definitely a new favorite for when we're in town! read more

I would give them negative stars if I could. There were only 5 of us and we got charged a $45 large party fee. The steaks were over cooked. The only positive was the waitress was great. We are local and will not be returning and don't recommend this place. read more

The four of us plan to meet here as I've mainly only been to the Gaylord location. I do find the two restaurants have many differences. The lucky in Gaillard just seems more refined for like special events. But this was a very special event for my family to meet, enjoy our conversation and dinner and not be rushed by anyone. We arrived about 1 PM and there were many available seatings. It did take about 10 minutes to be addressed at the front reception. But after we were seated, we indulged with whatever we wanted on the menu. We had two or three drinks each. We didn't take advantage of a lunch menu special. The waitress name was HALIE and she was more cordial perhaps than we deserved. We were having a great time and she helped make our connection much more special. My first visit to Lucky's was a pleasant surprise; the second, a little disappointing, but not discouraging; tonight's visit was enough to keep me away for the foreseeable future. My wife and son dropped in to take advantage of previous Happy Hour food specials, which are no longer. The atmosphere is pleasant enough and the staff is inviting and pleasant, if not attentive enough. Both my son and I had the "Dynamite Shrimp," who's was altogether too salty and had an insufficient amount of sauce. My wife ordered the Stuffed Grouper Special, which was very good in our first visit, but this time was entirely too salty. My son and I each had a burger - both very dry and had a disappointing amount of meat. Two Margaritas were disappointing as well. Waiting to pay our bill seemed excessive too. read more

Lucky's has always been a favorite of mine, I frequently dined at the restaurant in Bay City, have gone to the location in Gaylord for happy hour and just last night went to the location in Petoskey. Each location having the same menu, makes it a great place to dine. My wife enjoyed the steak salad, I did not realize the dressing is horseradish, it's always great tasting, I had the crabmeat stuffed grouper, another great meal, and my son enjoyed the 16oz Ribeye. Where do I start? I have been to many Lucky's restaurants, mostly ok, never fantastic, this was by far the worst. FYI if you go for happy hour you have to sit in the bar area, thought I would share that as I didn't know and didn't see it advertised. Ordered French onion soup, they must of ran out and didn't preplan because the soup was not done, lacking flavor and the onions were not cooked, actually still hard and some were almost crunchy. I went with the Prime French dip, what a disappointment. Served on a fresh baked roll??? It was served on the same bread they give you with every meal. The meat was dry and had gristle all over. On vacation for a trip. We came for a late lunch. We stood at hostess stand with another couple ahead of us for at-least 5 minutes or longer. Once we were seated waitress came and greeted us. We placed our orders at that time. My mom ordered a filet mignon, French onion soup and baked potato. I ordered a sirloin steak, French onion soup and baked potato. French onion soup was very delicious. Our soup was served promptly. That is where our story ended. We waited for over 30 minutes for food. Both steaks were bland and very chewy. Our baked potatoes were cold and inside of the potatoes were not cooked through. Our waitress disappeared of long periods. My mom asked for bread as it stated in the menu to receive it. She stated we got there before 3PM. She did bring us one out. We asked for boxes as we were done. She brought them and disappeared again. Sat another 20 minutes waiting for the check. read more

Wow, my wife and I were up in Petoskey and were so excited to see that there was a Lucky's franchise in town for lunch. Looked at these pathetic reviews and thought man there has to be something wrong here? We really enjoy the other Lucky's locations we have visited in the past so we figured we would try it out for ourselves and see if all this negativity is correct. Our experience could not have been better! We sat at the bar and had Lexi as our server. I just can't say enough positive things about this young lady. She was extremely friendly, very attentive, and seemed to be one step ahead of our needs for the entire visit. Seriously, she could teach a course on how to be a friendly, responsive server. Food was great, as always at all the Lucky's I have been to. Price is always great and there is NO skimping on the portion size. If you're in town looking for $150 dollar steak, you maybe disappointed. But if you're looking for a great tasting meal at a reasonable price, I wouldn't hesitate to visit. Let's see where to start? Cesar Salad without dressing? Warm shrimp cocktail delivered with burnt entrees? Medium filet which was so thoroughly cooked it was like shoe leather? Or the indifference of the waiter when we brought the issues to his attention (sorry and walked away). Nothing was addressed but we were certainly given a bill for our troubles. The visit to this restaurant was beyond disastrous. We waited 2 hours for our food to get to the table. The server during the wait checked up on us once and didn't even apologize for the wait. Our drinks took an hour to get to the table and were only refilled once in the 3 hour period at the restaurant. One of our steaks was brought to the table so raw it was practically mooing. The restaurant was packed, we waited 20 minutes and they were able to seat us. The portions are huge, and the food was delicious. My filet was cooked perfectly, the ribs were fantastic. Our server was attentive and efficient, especially for being so busy. The prices are very reasonable, we thought they had left something off. I left a review flaming them for mediocre and tasteless greasy chicken sandwich at dinner a month ago. However we actually had a decent experience last night. We were seated on the bar side last night and although my wife's prime rib was weirdly overcooked on the edges and raw in the middle, they redid it for us. I had the gnocchi and it was fabulous. My good friend and I went to Luckys Restaurant for dinner last night (two women). First off, the host seemed confused. We put in our name for a table (Sue), and no more than 3 minutes later, they approached asking if we were Rick or Steve. The server never introduced themself and seemed unhappy we didn't order drinks and never came to the table to find out if we were satisfied with our meal. My friend barely touched her dinner and instead of asking if everything was OK, they offered a box. She ordered the 3 filets with mushrooms. It tasted sour, so she only had a few bites. My bourbon steak was not hot, but the plate was scorching hot. The person bussing tables flew past us without clearing our bread and salad plates, saying she would be right back for them. Then we heard her tell the host she was heading out on her break. The plates were all cleared at the same time, after we were done with our dinner. I used the restroom before I left. The countertop was flooded with water, and there was water all over the floor. There was also a half tube of toothpaste left on the counter. I get it that this can happen, but the bus person from earlier was in the bathroom with me and left the restroom as is. Super disappointed. We had a party of 14 for a birthday Celebration. Friday night, kitchen was busy. Our server was good. The food was excellent, huge portions. Our only "complaint ", those having cocktails didn't get refills timely. Overall it was a great experience and would recommend Lucky's to anyone looking for a steak dinner or a seafood dinner. read more

UPDATE: Reading reviews - these 4* & 5* reviews have to be from owners or staff Service is horrible, took forever to get our food, which was sandwiches doesn't take long to make what we had. Server had someone trailing behind her and if she was training, they are going to have another horrible server. It was 1:30 in the afternoon, so wasn't busy not a lot of people seated, service should have been good and food should have come out fast - neither happened Owner/Manager need to take a course in serving in a restaurant and train staff themselves - you would think they would want their staff to bring their customers back, not say, never going there again. When they are short staffed, they need to jump in and serve tables They also need to train their kitchen staff, should not have taken so long to get what we ordered, it was NOT busy at all. Owner/Manager need to know how to work in the kitchen and pitch in when it's busy or staff doesn't show up. They are not keeping up on their staff, or just don't care, not sure which Should not have taken 45+ minutes to get the food and when it did arrive, not everything was there. Soup should have arrived before meal, we had to ask for it when meal came out without the soup, then took another 15 minutes to get the soup - really, how long does it take to ladle soup into a cup ?? Would have asked for it after 10 minutes of not receiving it after order placed, but server did not come by I have not been to one in Gaylord but have heard good things about it, so may give it a try. Ambience just OK. The wine list is actually amazing, small list but excellent wines and excellent prices. One look at the menu had us worried however. How do you sell a decent porterhouse steak for $25? We elected to get a salmon, Caesar and a Caprese. I needed a steak knife to cut the tomatoes for the Caprese. Not good. The salmon was very good, unfortunately the salad part was old. In general, they need help with produce so, we did not try a steak, because the prices of the steaks were so reasonable and worried us. But to get a bottle of Faust and a restaurant for $65 is amazing. Our server was absolutely wonderful, but no one asked us about our experience while we were there. read more

Not bad for a chain restaurant! Nicely redone inside with a pub type atmosphere with a separate bar area. Big menu with choices for just about everyone. We dined on a Saturday for lunch. Saturday is the only day that they are open for lunch. Hamburger and a French dip were the menu items that we selected. Both were prepared well and the French fries were very tasty too. Service was quite slow and more training for the employees was needed as there were some glitches in the ordering system it seemed. They've only been open for a few months so they haven't hit their stride yet. We will return for dinner and try some of the other items on the extensive menu. read more

We love this place but had our first bad experience, and while the food was amazing the service could not have been worse. They were very busy on 3/26/2025 at 5:45pm so instead of waiting for a table we went to the bar. It took about 13 minutes to order drinks so we just made happy hour specials. When drinks came we ordered our food immediately. After waiting about 45 minutes and watching people that had sat down after us already finishing their meals the bartender came over and asked if wanted anything, we said just still waiting 45 minutes for our food. He asked us what we ordered and immediately he said he forgot to enter our order. He put our order in with a rush but afterwards our bill took forever to come too. Then he brought up that our happy hour specials could not be entered anymore so he had to enter some items wrong to make up for the cost. We finally left about 7:30pm. Came in during happy hour and it was mainly dead. Ordered a Two-Hearted which is usually on tap. Was told it was switched out for Oberon. Oh well, give me a bottle then. Nope don't have that. IPA in bottle? Just all-day. No thanks. Manager checks part way through the visit - we mention the lack of Two-Hearted. She says "Beer is beer". Um, ok then you're right and steak is just steak! Second time there and this experience was even worse than the first time. Shame on me for giving them another chance. Bad service. Terrible, strange looking prime rib. The people running this place are clueless (I swear that the current manager was a waitress that served us a few months ago!). Unfortunately, the Petoskey area has few servers that have been properly trained. That could be remedied by a company training program, but I guess that's just too much to ask for. Basics are overlooked and the kitchen staff is incompetent. Go to Lucky's if you want your order messed up; you salad to be brought out after the entre, and your servers to bumble through your evening. read more
