My partner and I were craving a BLT when we were wandering around downtown Petoskey and stopped into Roast & Toast for a sandwich. I got the soup and half sandwich combo. I guess I should have known that it was self-service soup, but I didn't, and that was a little disappointing but I ordered the BLT and soup, and she told me where to get the soup. I felt awkward and didn't feel like I could change my order and just kept with it. I then got the wrong sandwich, I think she misheard me, but the cook was kind enough to remake my sandwich for me and it was remade really quickly! It was super kind that he remade the sandwich without question and it was delicious! I didn't love the soup but that was not a huge issue. It is fully counter service and the vibes inside are definitely a cafe. I feel like there are a ton of spots in Petoskey that I want to try but this was nice for a quick bite.

Curated and photodocumented the venue. Seems like THE popular coffee house and lunch joint in the city. Food - Many options offered -- soups, sammies, salads, desserts, and many beverage choices including espresso options. Look for the "Order here" and "Pick up" in neon lights. Service - Decent. Engaged. Yells your order when it is ready for pick up. Ambiance - Extroverted. Loud. Energetic. Most look happy. Townies and tourists. Observed students and solo book readers. Seats about 40? No outdoor seating. Loo - Stocked. Could be tidier. Parking - Street or hike from a lot. Overall - Copacetic.

We stopped in at 11:15 am on a Wednesday and it took 30 minutes for two overpriced sandwiches! The place is chaotic. I will not return!

Passed by this cafe while on a bike ride and was instantly drawn to it by its beautiful appearance on the outside, only to be blown away by the inside!! This place really surprised me with its amazing interior design! I just ordered a coffee but I do plan on coming back for the delicious food I seen around me! I would highly recommend coming here for a lovely breakfast or lunch!!

I popped in here today to have a quick bowl of soup while my mom and sister were shopping at the book store. I was pleasantly surprised. The soup was GREAT! I had chicken Avacado soup it was fresh warm reasonably priced and delicious. Was definitely homemade. They had 3 other soup options to choose from on this day including vegetarian options. The sounds serve yourself so if you cannot decide when you're ordering you can decide once you see them . I will definitely come back next time I'm in town.

The cookies here are marvelous. The service is fast, friendly, easy and best of all cheap! Their princess peach chai is delicious and a very nice selection of stuff along with summer drink specials. There is free WiFi and a lot of indoor seating. I wish there was more outdoor seating and free parking.

Roast & Toast - in line to order before finding a spot to sit!

This is officially my favorite place in all of Petoskey! It is such a cute breakfast/brunch spot filled with so much CHARM! I immediately fell in love as soon as I walked in, probably sooner when I first saw the entryway into the restaurant! It's absolutely adorable and everything I've ever wanted a breakfast spot to be! It's hard to describe what the interior *FEELS* like, so I'd just highly recommend going here whenever you're in the area, but let me tell you! They have such a fun menu FILLED with classic breakfast/brunch dishes, but also so many that have their own unique spin on them! My eyeballs were flying all over the menu and I was deciding between at least 5 different things, which was PAINFUL because I wanted all of them! It just means I need to go back now! :P I ended up going with one of their breakfast sandwich selections, which was SO delicious! But I'm also here to tell you, if you thought their food menu was overwhelming in the best way possible, their DRINK menu is even more so! So many different varieties of caffeinated and non-caffeinated drinks! When we came here in the summer, they had fun summer special drinks as well! The drawings on this drink menu were IMMACULATE as well! I was deciding between their Kim Possible latte or their Blue Clue "soda drink" and ultimately went with the Blue Clue! Yes...a light Italian soda mixed drink first thing in the morning might seem odd, but it was the perfect pairing to my whole meal and I was a happy camper! Please do yourself a favor and swing by Roast and Toast! If you can, try to get their earlier, as this is a popular spot that is sure to not only fill up, but sell out as well! Luckily, the line to order and the overturn of people dining actually goes pretty fast, so even a couple hours into opening when we stopped in, we waited in line for about 10 minutes (the perfect amount of time to sift through the entire food and drink menu and narrow down options) and by the time we placed an order, seats had opened up for us to sit in! It's truly the perfect spot to kickstart your Petoskey day and is located in the heart of downtown Petoskey, so I really don't know what could be better than Roast & Toast and then a lovely window shopping/digestion walk afterwards around the area before heading off on other adventures you have in store! TAKE ME BACK!!!!!

They must've got some people mad to give all these terrible reviews. The place was great for me. The food and coffee was good. My wife's french toast was as she was expecting, even though they could've been crispier they tasted great. The savory scone was good. My wrap was interesting, but great. The weird curved seats looked interesting, but not comfortable so we moved. Other than that the place was good. I will go again.

    Blackwich and Loaded Potato soup
    AJ M.

Roast & Toast is a solid option for a quick brunch/lunch. While always busy around the lunch hour, their fast-casual model (order at counter then find a seat) gets everyone an opportunity to enjoy their food quickly and efficiently. We enjoyed the Blackwich (basically a Cajun chicken club sandwich). Had a hard time tasting any Cajun spice in it, but it was still tasty. We shared that with a cup of Roasted Potato soup, which was VERY good. Unfortunately, when we asked the girl who took our order at the register what the loaded potato soup was like and if it was very cheesy, she said "I don't know." While that was a bit off-putting, the rest of the experience was solid!

Terrible food - $15 sandwiches worse than 3 dollar grocery store sandwiches. Mocha tastes like 3 bags of Splenda in hot water.

I had done a bit of research the day before .. looking for restaurants in the area. When I noticed that the Side Door had Prime Rib on special, (Wed-Sat) the decision was made. DISCLAIMER: I had eaten at the Side Door a few years ago (Cilantro Lime Shrimp W/Pasta) Me and my neighbor arrived at about 4:45PM, and were greeted with a warm smile and seated immediately ... we were kinda early for the dinner rush so there was plenty of available seating. (NOTE: When we departed about an hour after we arrived, the place was FULL and a line was forming for a table.) We both ordered the 14oz Black Angus Prime Rib (10oz also available). About the same time that we finished the first beer, dinner was served! Simply one of ... if not Thee best, PR that I have had in several years, across 11 states. My neighbor agreed. Both of us now try to plan our Petoskey trips to coincide with dinner at the Door My ONLY complaint is that the horseradish was weak. Actually, it seemed that it had been washed into submission .. totally without any flavor or "bite". The rest of the meal made up for it. (But I *will* bring some nose-incinerating, sinus-creating horseradish from home on the next planned trip.) Service: Superb. We never had to ask for anything. Drinks were refilled with perfect timing. And always smiling. She is an asset to the establishment. Driving Suggestion: Depending on the season and the time of day, if arriving from the North, it can be nearly impossible to make the left turn into the Side Door. Suggestion: Turn Right into the strip mall (KFC, AT&T, etc) and use the traffic light near the gas station to turn left, back onto the highway then a right into the Side Door Saloon for some of the best dining in the Petoskey area. Ample Parking is available. YMMV

My friend ordered the kabob dinner and said it was good...but over $20 for some veggies is crazy. My gyro and truffle fries....honestly I should have just sent them back. This is one of the most disappointing meals I've had recently. They put a tomato paste on it that I almost requested without, but trusted it would be interesting. It literally tasted like cheap canned tomato paste. Gross and certainly doesn't blend well on a gyro. The lamb meat itself had a decent taste, but the way it is served makes it difficult to eat in a pita. Gyros are typically chopped or shaved lamb which makes it easier to eat and helps ensure you're getting more lamb per bite. Served in these strips, it was just falling apart and not blending with the feta. The fries...terrible. Just terrible. $6 to sub truffle fries which seems like too much but I hadn't had them in a long time so had to go for it. Listed in subs it simply says truffle fries, so I didn't know they were going to be covered in liquid cheese. They ARE listed in appetizers with the full description but I didn't look there until after bc I didn't order an appetizer. The cheese was awful, completely overwhelmed the TINY bit of truffle taste, and SO salty! Take a look at the picture and decide for yourself if the gyro and fries is worth $23. I eat a lot of gyros, and this being the most expensive one I've had is the worst. Heads up that they charge a service fee. Doesn't bother me as I always tip at least 20% but no one pointed that out and I'm not really sure what it's for. Does that go into the servers pocket or? Won't be going back to find out.

Well I couldn't get a reservation in the fall so my girlfriend and I tried again while taking a ski trip to Boyne Mountain . Yes, The location and ambiance is fabulous . Janice did a great job going through the menu which I will added the prices were very fare . The wine and cocktail list were also impressive with a wide offering in price and choice. We decided on a Malbec to start. Then they brought out a the welcoming taste of salmon pate on a cucumber which we both found to be very tasty . After reviewing the menu we chose to bypass an appetizer for fear of just getting too much food and not finishing our dinner . After I told my girlfriend how good whitefish is in Michigan we both ordered that instead of the salmon or short ribs that also looked enticing. . Before our entree was served we had the warm bread and garlic butter that was terrific and tempting to eat the whole basket . Our dinners were served very quickly even though the restaurant was sold out . As we took the first bites of the white fish I was extremely disappointed . The breading had absolutely zero seasoning or flavor . The fish was flaky and cooked perfectly but the breading was completely flavorless taking away from the fish. Neither of us finished the dish and my girlfriend tried adding salt just to get some flavor but it didn't make it any better . I was going to order dessert but we were so disappointed after our dinner we chose to bypass dessert . . I did order a coffee since they didn't have cappuccino. I will say the coffee was very good , but what good restaurant doesn't have a cappuccino machine . As a side note the bathroom very nicely decorated in old wine box shingles on the wall and was very clean . I gave 3 stars simply because the Walloon Inn has been around so long and highly acclaimed as one of the better restaurants in the area. This was very disappointing .
