The restaurant is really small with limited seating, so our party of four had to wait around 20 minutes to be seated at the bar. their main menu item is their Ramen, but they have quite a selection of appetizers as well. We tried their shrimp and kimchi Ramen, the brisket Ramen, and miso braised lamb shank with mushroom porridge. The lamb shank was by far my favorite dish - I've never had anything like it, and everything was super flavorful and perfectly seasoned. I wasn't a huge fan of either of the ramen dishes. I feel like they were lacking in the variety of ingredients used in each one. I would give this restaurant a higher rating if they had better Ramen options. read more

We were craving ramen and decided to stop here. This place was so overpriced for okay food at the most. $18 for pork belly bao was insane. Ramen portions were massive which was the single redeeming factor of this place. I made a reservation and the host who seated us a few minutes after our reservation time (the restaurant had a few empty tables and bar seating) was slightly rude. After being seated for 20-25 minutes, the waiter finally came to ask us for our order and still waited a while to get our food. If you want ramen, go somewhere else. read more

Do not eat ramen here, Worst tasting ramen I have ever had, save yourself the expense make a cup noodle at home. I will say their appetizers are okay, but their ramen is absolutely disgusting. Flavorless broth like colored water, their ajitama eggs are closer to a raw egg dropped in. They use young noodle company stir fry noodles as ramen noodles and to hide their poor quality they cover the bowl in toppings. They add sweetener to their mushrooms, and their "in house" drinks are Minute Maid lemonade with a hibiscus colorant, but no hibiscus flavor. Went to Lucky Belly on a Saturday night. Made a reservation, but could've chanced it with walking in as it wasn't completely full yet when we went. Had the duck tacos and dim sum trio sampler to start. Duck tacos were amazing. The dim sum trio was good since it included three of their appetizers in one plate, allowing you to try more of the menu. It included the belly bao, lobster shu mai, and oxtail dumplings. For the entrées we had the belly bowl and Lobster moco. The belly bowl came with 4 pieces of pork belly, which is a pretty generous portion. The lobster moco tasted like it was a lot more expensive than it's price. They definitely didn't skimp on the lobster. It was incorporated into the fried rice and generous portion in the lobster cake(patty). Service was good and attentive. The only drawback is the parking, but nothing the restaurant can do about that. There's street parking and some parking garages that are close by. Would suggest the street parking if you're able to find it since it's free at night. If not, the parking garage is $1 every half hour, but you'll only have to pay $3 maximum if staying past 1.5 hours. read more

The waitress was nice and offered her suggestions but when I asked her about the grilled octopus and whether it was tender, she told me yes, it was. However, when I tried it, it was tough and chewy! I told her and she did nothing; hence the low score review! She didn't offer another appetizer or anything else to compensate so that was a turn off. We we're so excited to try Lucky Belly based off other reviews. We went on a Tuesday but all the tables at the restaurant were full, which was a good sign to us! The staff were knowledgeable about the menu and had great drink recommendations. We went with the Li Hing Lemonade and Lilikoi Fizz which were both delicious. We started with the pork belly baos which were the perfect amount of meat to bun ratio and our food arrived shortly after. My husband loved the bibimbap and it was the right amount of spicy. The meat completely fell apart in your mouth and had so much flavor. My lobster moco did come out cold but the flavor of the entire dish was so rich and creamy, that it didn't matter too much. The lobster croquette had so much lobster in it, which I appreciated because sometimes they can have too much breading. To be honest, was expecting a bit more given the reviews. Chinatown continues to be pretty divey with a lot of homeless on every block which can feel a bit unsafe unfortunately. Cute interior and vibe. The pork buns were great! But I got the lobster loco moco and it was disappointing. First off it was lukewarm at best including the rice. The lobster bisque gravy was a bit bland and again not hot which makes it less appealing to eat. The lobster croquette with potato also lacked flavor, I couldn't really get any lobster flavor even though it looked like there was a decent amount in there. Kind of a bummer. My wife and I discovered this restaurant while looking for another that had limited availability. This restaurant had good reviews so we created a reservation and checked it out. Street or private parking lots are the only parking that I'm aware of if driving. We were promptly greeted upon arrival and sat at the bar as we were awaiting our son to arrive from work. My wife and I had a couple appetizers and drinks that were delicious and then moved to a table. The Oxtail Dumplings ($18) were so good although a little costly for an appetizer. My wife then ordered the Lamp Lumpia ($15) that she noted as delicious too. I refrained from the lumpia to save room for ramen. I ordered the Beast Bowl ($23) as my entree and wasn't impressed despite the restaurant rating. The wow factor wasn't there with the flavor and I reflected that I've had better ramen elsewhere. My son had the Lobster Moco ($28) and wife had the Bi Bim Bap ($20) which both said were delicious. The air conditioning was blowing on us to where my ears were freezing and I asked if they could adjust the flow or turn it down. The server indicated they did but it wasn't enough. I was ready to go as I was miserable at that point with it being rainy and wet outside. It wasn't a comfortable experience eating dinner here. My wife had a shawl on and me in the path to disrupt air flow but I was ready for my winter hat and jacket. The bartender was on the ball with service asking if we needed more food or drink. Once we got to the table, things slowed down a bit with the quality of service. I might give it 4 stars overall considering my family's thoughts, but it was just "ok" (3 stars) for me considering cost, AC, and ramen. We came to Lucky Belly last night to meet an out of town friend. It was one of the restaurants on their list to go to eat at. But after last night, I don't think they see it as a good to place. I've been to Lucky Belly before and I didn't have a good experience. But I think it was just because of sensitivities while I was pregnant. I think I had the beast bowl when I was pregnant. It was too oily for my belly and I had the meanest stomachache, the kind that makes you want to run home. So fast forward to now, we just ordered the ramen and some appetizers. Some of the appetizers were pretty good. I enjoyed the gyoza with shrimp and the scallop inari. The ramen on the other hand was just okay. Everyone on the table who had ramen for their meal had the same response when asked. "It was okay". The broth just wasn't doing it for me. Just plain. My husband had the belly bowl which had bacon and pork in ramen and he said one of the meat didn't have any flavor on it. My husband's friend that wanted to come to Lucky Belly had the miso braised pork belly. He tasted it and didn't eat the rest because he didn't like the spices. Not sure if we will be coming back. Another thing is there is no parking at the restaurant since it's in the heart of Chinatown. We parked like two blocks away. I don't mind walking so that's okay but when we got back and had to pay, it was kind of ridiculous. It came out to $6 for parking for a hour and a half. Great service we had a group of 8 and they were full (no reservations left) but she squeezed us into a table if we finished by 8:30pm (we had arrived at 7:35pm) Of course we ordered the Oxtail Dumplings ($18 for 3; but you can ask for more. I booked on Open Table to dine on Dec 26 Thursday lunch time. I even got the reminder to confirm. It turns out restaurant was not opened when I got there. Due to the holiday, I called them last week to confirm they will open on Dec 26. I told them I wanted to confirm this is the case because on their website, it did not show the opening hours during lunch time. The girl who answered the phone confirmed they will be opened on Dec 26 (today) and acknowledged the website was not updated properly. We ordered the crispy duck tacos which were my absolute favorite and got literally can't go there without ordering them. I'm glad I made reservations in advance for dinner because when I arrived, it was completely full. They don't have a private parking lot so I had to park in a paid lot about a block away. Service was friendly and efficient. I got the Oriental Chicken Salad and the Oxtail dumplings. The salad was amazing!! I loved that it was entree portions, not the tiny dinky salads I typically see at restaurants. It was crunchy and the mandarin oranges and sesame dressing went well with the karaage. The only minor con was that there were orange or lemon seeds in my salad (probably when someone was squeezing in the juice). I would order this again. The oxtail dumplings were actually more of just oxtail inside har gow wrappers. They were filling (generous portions of oxtail inside), but the taste and textures didn't really work well together. The business is located in Chinatown which isn't too safe as open businesses and people are scarce here. The police are very visible as they patrol the area very often. Street parking is $3/hour until 6pm (free after) or the parking lot on the opposite end of the restaurant is $3/hour. Appetizer: Special of the day; sampler trio (lobster shui mai, pork bao bun, and oxtail dumpling) - It was a good way to try everything. Entrée: Lucky Bowl - The only bowl on the menu without meat, but still so good. I love the noodles here and having a soft bowl egg is always a win. The portion was decently sized too. After my meal I paid a visit to the restroom. The doors were both open (single person restrooms) with the lights off. I went to the women's stall and shut the door and screamed a little as I saw TWO cockroaches on the wall! I killed one of them and the other I tried to shoo away. I looked on the floor and there was a big mama cockroach somewhat near the door. I opened the door in hopes it would flee on its own. I didn't want to step on it because I didn't want the gunk underneath my shoe. (I'm getting flashbacks as I type this review out.). I backed away from the bathroom and saw there were a few other cockroaches in the bathroom and there was no way I was going to do my business in there. I went to the unisex bathroom and saw there was no cockroaches so I did my business. As I was done I noticed there were THREE dead cockroaches because they were on their backs. I walked out of the restroom and restaurant mortified! I could not believe how many cockroaches there were in the restroom. I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO ANY ESTABLISHMENT WITH SUCH A COCKROACH PROBLEM! I know it is located in a not-so great area, but I wouldn't think being in the dining area that there would be this kind of issue. I love the appetizers at this place! The crispy duck tacos were delicious! The taco shell was kinda like sun chips. Im glad there were 5 tacos to an order. We also had the oxtail dumplings. If you have the oxtail appetizer, you will also get it in the beast ramen. They were yummy but there are only 3 to an order. We had the shrimp gyoza and they were huge! I like the sauce that came with it. We also had the pork belly bao. I thought it was a bit fatty and too much bread. After 4 appetizers I was good but our party kept ordering so I ordered a citrus karaage salad. The salad consisted mostly of Napa cabbage and there were minimal dressing. The chicken was fried perfectly but it was very small. My husband had the beast bowl which had the oxtail dumping in it. The brisket was very tender. I have never had anything bad here, it's all homemade, fresh and msg free. Faves are the Funghi Bowl, Beast Bowl, Beet Salad (which is fancier than any other beet salad I've had around these parts) and any dessert they make. I grew up eating a simplified version of the Beast Bowl, Beef Brisket Noodles so I find the food very comforting here. Oriental Chicken Salad is also good too but of course ramen at a ramen place is their speciality, right? The staff are super accommodating so I tweak a few things to my taste sometimes. The Oxtail Dumplings have a strange sourness that I do not appreciate so I usually ask for more of the other meats. Other than that, my minor remarks are the Bi Bim Bap is more sour and savory without any sweetness than the traditional. And the Oriental Chicken salad could do with more chicken and mandarin oranges or a more flavorful dressing (a little ginger or garlic or sesame oil?), it's very soy sauce flavor heavy. But the freshness of the ingredients still makes it worth it. The Shishito Peppers are well charred but a little bland otherwise. This place is Asian food for Anglo tastes, take that comment as you wish, it is an opinion merely, not a judgement. There's a kaleidoscope of drinks but I've only tried the Hibiscus lemonade which is colorful and tart, just the way I like my drinks. Finally they have a really fun new dessert called Chocolate Bonsai which was cotton candy with sprinkles "leaves" with a fluffy chocolate cake covered with Oreo pudding like frosting "dirt" and cream cheese whipped cream "clouds" with super soft honey dew melon mochi. The mochi was really good on its own, it did not match with the cream cheese whipped cream but I just ate the cream with the chocolate cake. Even the "bark" was an edible cookie. On the day of the reservation, I received a message that my reservation is canceled. Called the restaurant who said they were not open that day and the employee seemingly shrugged over the phone when I asked, "why did Open Table allow me to make a reservation and even confirm it? If informed from the outset the restaurant was closed that day, I could have gone elsewhere. Will never use Open Table again and will refrain from patronizing restaurants that use the service. As will the guests in my party. Sorry Lucky Belly that you have to pay the price for Open Table's failure. read more
