Smash burger

Nice date spot. Order at the bar beer. Although our top two beers were tapped. The food was good. Got the smash burger and sweet potato fries. Both were really good. Service took awhile to order but it was a Friday night.

While the burger in this photo doesn't look like much, it surely satisfies! Double smash burger patties, onions, pickles, cheese and sauce. So simple and yet so good. $12.

Came here during Portland beer week and I loved the restaurant itself along with the service. It was such a great vibe amongst all the patrons and staff members. They have so many options for drinks. Though, the Portland beer week we were able to choose a taster tray and the majority of all the beers we selected to choose from were not great lol but we know there are plenty more options on their regular menu that are so don't be discouraged. Love the variety that they have!

Parking is hard to find especially after work hours. Inside this beer bar ~ cozy two tops or larger booths for four. Not an interesting vibe despite above average furniture. Expansive outdoor seating. Hard to find clean tables inside or outside. So many taps. Great selection. Decent special brews. Service ~ downright entitled. It is not logical to self seat, then have to come up to the counter, talk over shoulders sitting at the bar and bring your own drinks back. The apathetic attitude should not be in this industry. Get your own water is what they say. Food menu is so-so, bar snacks and sausage overcooked over greens. Just not good. Just come for the beer and not much else.

Basket of tots and enough ketchup for about half of them. Nobody came to ask how food was so I guess it was okay.

Don't bother ordering food. We ordered a Cesar salad with chicken, a basket of tots and a sausage. After waiting at least 10 min at bar to order was told food would take 30 min, it was about an hour. Not 40 min, not 45..an hour. One cup of ketchup for a basket of tots? I was concerned to go ask for more thinking that would be another 10. Lackluster service. I was surprised to see people coming in. I get it was busy, I don't get a kitchen cannot get food out. It's not top end food either. It's pub food. No need to return.

What a great tap house with lots of local beers and lots of seating. They do seem to have a partnership or preference with a few, given how prevalent they are on the taps. The food is to be expected bar food. Hits the spot while drinking beer but not the consideration when selecting a place to go out. When we sat down at about 3:30ish on a Thursday, at the bar, service was pretty good. However when they got busier, even with more staff, the service became spotty. Everyone does order at the bar for food and drinks so it can get uncomfortable crowded during a rush.

Old Fashioned

This place absolutely nails the laid-back, open-air bar vibe. The patio is spacious with string lights overhead, communal picnic tables, and a casual crowd that makes it easy to settle in and relax. Perfect for golden hour drinks or catching up with friends as the evening rolls in. I tried two cocktails: * The first was a Cucumber margarita that hit the spot with just the right balance of citrus and spice. The mint leaf garnish added a nice aromatic touch. * The second was a classic Old Fashioned served in a custom LL glass -- smooth, slightly smoky, and well-crafted. It's always a good sign when a bar treats the basics with this much care. The bartenders were friendly and quick, even with the crowd growing steadily. The ambiance feels thoughtfully curated without trying too hard -- a little rustic, a little modern, and all-around inviting.

Hugo spritz and peach margarita

Great place to watch football, there are big TVs, and the bartenders were attentive even though it was packed on a Saturday night. They also have an outdoor seating area and a wide variety of beer and drinks. We got the peach margarita, Hugo spritz, #25 and #18. Also ordered tater tots, 10/10.

Smash Burger, edges were smashed, but don't be deceived, this was not a smashed patty
Anna C.

We sat outside, they have heaters. We thought they were known for their smash burgers, we were wrong. There was a thin edge but the burger wasn't smashed, the patty was over salted. The bun was too thick, over all the burger was dry. Three people at my table ordered the smash and we won't be ordering it again. This review is based on our smash burger experience.

Unicorn Stuff & an Old Fashion

Loyal Legion is a reliable stop for delicious food and tasty cocktails. I always order the loaded fries and Unicorn Stuff (gin &lemon). The interior is open and cozy and there is a large outdoor seating area as well. The only downside is that you order food and drinks at the bar and the line gets backed up. The prices are a bit steep for self serve, however the food and drink always satisfy my appetite.

Falafel burger with vegan cheese

McLoyal smashburger and sweet potato fries is my go-to meal when I stop in here. My son tried the Falafel burger and tots but ended up eating my sweet potato tots! We ordered the pretzel with cheese sauce and it was an ok snack. I love the variety of taps and ciders. They have a great outside patio when the weather is great this is my favorite place to be.

Good beer selection. Told at 7 pm on a Friday that the wait time to get food from the kitchen wax 1 hour 40 minutes. They need to do better

Food was tasty. There is NO service. You order at the bar. The beet salad was amazing as well as the creative cocktails.

"Dam Good Whiskey!" -- A Beaver's Review of Westward Distillery…read more Well chew my bark and call me industrious--Westward Distillery has crafted a whiskey so fine it made my tail thump like a drum on spring thaw! I waddled in skeptical. After all, we beavers know a thing or two about craftsmanship: sharp teeth, strong wood, steady paws. But the moment those folks poured me a sample of their American Single Malt, I realized I was in the presence of fellow artisans--humans who build with barley the way I build with birch. The aroma? Like sniffing a warm cedar log at sunset, with a hint of orchard fruit drifting downstream. The taste? Smooth as a freshly planed maple branch, with a delicious grain character that made me contemplate abandoning dam construction to pursue professional sipping full-time. The finish? Long, warm, and rich--lingering like the satisfaction of placing the final stick on a perfectly engineered lodge roof. And don't get me started on the place itself. The distillery is polished, welcoming, and smells pleasantly of oak instead of predators. The staff? Delightful! Not one of them tried to trap me, and they spoke about their whiskey with the passion of creatures who truly love their craft. Westward, my whiskered friends, you have built something remarkable. If I had opposable thumbs, I'd raise a glass. Instead, I'll slap my tail in tribute: THWAP THWAP THWAP! That's beaver for "EXQUISITE WORK, KEEP IT UP."

Absolute hands-down favorite bar in Portland! Scotch Lodge…read moreis a must-visit every single time we are in Portland! The food, the cocktails, and the hospitality are consistently incredible. You cannot miss the oysters here--the granitas they pair with them are an absolute work of art. For the first time, we tried the beef tartare, and they hand-chop the meat right on the spot. The funky richness of the cheese on top was perfectly balanced, and wrapping it in gem lettuce made it such a unique and delicious treat. As for the drinks, every single cocktail we ordered was outstanding. I'm not a big fan of overly sweet drinks, so the 'Mojo Jojo Casa House' at the end was absolutely perfect for my palate. I also loved the 'Brand New Key,' which was packed with fresh tarragon flavor. My husband prefers smoky whiskeys and mezcals, so he ordered along those lines--not exactly my personal style, but he loved them! The ambiance and overall vibe here are unmatched. Just a heads-up: this place gets packed quickly, so making a reservation is a complete must. Highly, highly recommend!
