Stopped in here for brunch while in the village area. Great little local bar...staff is always super friendly. Wife had lunch and I had breakfast...breakfast sandwich and soup...hers was an Caprese chicken sando. Breakfast sando was good...soup not so much...it was a cheeseburger soup but tasted like a cup of chili with a mini slider burger patty and bun in the soup...I think...a little to much going on for my tastes. After a nice meal at Ploy's Thai, my Son suggested a nightcap at Bar 3. This is probably the closest thing to his neighborhood bar, which also has a modest pub food menu. My only surprise here, was dedicated area containing slot machines. I don't know Oregon laws on this subject, but I did briefly feel that I was back in Nevada, where this sort of thing is always in the background. Past that, our barkeep was efficient, and graciously accepted my offer to be carded, after my son was. At that point, a fellow patron commented that I just got under the wire age-wise. David ordered whiskey on ice, while I had a local draft craft beer. We enjoyed our drinks, and enjoyed chatting, including catching up with Gayle (who called in while we were here). Basic but somewhat cozy neighborhood spot that (mostly) hits the key points for me. A nice open layout, not too big but not cramped, full bar, okay tap list and an adequate menu listing slightly better than usual dive bar fare. Think nachos, fries, and tots but also egg rolls (likely out of a box) caprese bites and such. Enough large screens to get your sports fix on, and of course, video lottery. It's a no-frills slightly boxy joint inside but not too divey and manages to feel warm - probably due to the wood paneled ceiling and a couple of booths near the window. BarTenders are all business but friendly with prompt service. There is a covered patio too but it's not the best vibe. First time, this is the third bar of 3 bars within 2 miles of one another...which explains the name. It's surprisingly not dark inside for looking dark on the outside. It's friendly, pretty mellow, I hear there are food specials daily, the drinks are delicious and a sizable pour. The video games move, and music was eclectic for being so PDX suburb. I've never eaten here but the handful of times I've gone, I've never had a bad experience. The staff is always friendly and the regulars don't look at you funny. Tucked in the strip mall next to Plaid Pantry, this place is a cozy neighborhood spot with great food! Walked in on a Friday night and the place was lively, about four or so TV's going and the heat was crankin', perfect spot to be. Ordered the Buffalo Chicken Mac and the French dip. Both were really good, not mind blowing but real solid food. The tap list is on the smaller side, but all really great options. Bunch of specials on the chalk board and the service was absolutely perfect! 4 stars for this place. Ran into the worst woman in the world in this bar. A friend and I sat down to play video poker after ordering a beer. Right away this woman started calling us names. I asked her what her problem was and she started spouting off shit about covid rules. Whether or not there are rules, why would you start calling someone names. If you have an issue, be an adult and address your issues like an adult. I reported her crappy attitude to the bartender who did really nothing and sided with her at the bar, but apologized to us when we decided to just leave after the whole interaction. Don't go to this bar, it was the second chance for it and after this experience I won't be spending my money here. read more

Great little neighborhood hang-out at the edge of Multnomah Village. It's not gonna blow you away, but it ain't gonna disappount either. The menu is short and focused, the bar serves nicely chilled beer, and there's even an outdoor patio for when it warms up a bit. They do trivia on Tue nights too. Give this place a try. Ive been to the Bar 3 several times and Im here to tell you drink all you want 'cause they don't make the alcohol. STAY AWAY FROM THE FOOD. The last time I went there I ordered a reuben sandwich. The sandwich was composed of 2 slices of meat (of that thin sliced variety} and I was going to say they forgot the sauerkraut except i did find a couple of shreds of kraut in it. the sandwich fillings came to less than .1 inches. *before I start rambling, please see the bottom of my review for the NUMBER ONE reason I come back here again and again, this coming from a youngish woman* Bar 3 was thrown into my bar rotation when my regular go to, Renners, burned down a couple years ago. While Renners is back and I still have so much love for them, there is a VERY GOOD REASON I did not abandon Bar3. It is no longer a "placeholder bar", but one of my favorite "home turf" bars. The staff are salt of the earth wonderful humans. If you go a handful of times they will remember you and probably remember your order. It feels like you're a part of a weird dive/yet clean/wonderful bar family. This place is not a top brass snooty 15$ cocktail bar like you will find dotted around portland. It is a inviting place to get good food and a cold drink and have a good time with friends. The regular crowd are inviting and if you come in a few times you probably will know them all by name. And now onto the reason I come back here time and time again. I only keep 2 or 3 bars on my main rotation and they all have one thing in common, I know for a fact I am safe 100% of the time. I am a youngish woman who likes to go to bars and drink draft beer while reading a book alone. A lot of men, especially the drunk kind, see this as an invitation to hit on me because there is no man next to me. The staff at Bar3 is NO nonsense about this sort of behavior. I have been hit on and bothered (that just happens unfortunately in the world when you're a woman) and right away the offender is thrown And clearly told they are not welcome back. The reason is that this bar is definitely not a safe space for minorities. 2 older guys were engaging in conversation and yelled the word "spic" in the middle of the bar and not one person responded/reacted? I let the bartender know and that it was the reason I was leaving however the response wasn't effective nor productive and will overall be the reason I wouldn't be returning to this bar. read more

This place most times is consistent and good. Issue is service. There is one long table up against the bar, when it is full of regulars, the bartender spends most of time hanging out in front of that table talking to them, ignores rest of bar. You want a drink forget it your going to sit there 15 minutes even on a slow day trying to get the ladies attention while she texts, flirts w the people at that table, or whatever she is doing over there, while the rest of the bar sits there waiting on service..... it's pretty annoying, I almost walked out and went elsewhere. Couple of tenders that do this. Color me crazy but I think your there for the tips and we are on back side of covid I'd think folks would at least do job....before you go there I always tip at least 30 percent even for crap service. I grew up in Portland and live in SF now and every time I come to visit I stop by this bar because my sister lives down the street. The drinks are simple but good, I love their Bloody Mary! The food is normal bar food but it's always well prepared and fast. The environment is great because it's clean and I've never had a problem with a drunk person bothering me here.
