I'm leaving this review that most people in my position would probably leave as a 1 star. Since I built a tap house from the ground up and ran it for 5 years with my wife, I wouldn't penalize the owner for the mistake of an employee so I will leave it at 5 stars because I know how what a 1 star review can do to your standing.
I was in FBH tonight with my mom and wife celebrating a late Mother's Day. We wanted to go to the incredible restaurant Ma Kin next door but they didn't have any seating because their service and food is always so great and always have a Breakside on draft. We had ordered from there and eaten it in the FBH a few times and had a pleasant experience so we decide to try that again.
From the first interaction I had with the dark haired woman working the bar On Friday night May, 18th. I found her slightly curt and borderline rude but I chalked it up as someone having a busy/bad day. We ordered food from
next door and it arrived with plastic forks and I went to the bar to ask for regular forks. The dark haired lady was very busy attending other customers so after a couple minutes I looked around and saw some silverware in cups in a side room
off the bar, business end down. I figured I would just grab a few and not need to bother her.
Looking back, I shouldn't have grabbed them. I never liked it when people came into my space and grabbed stuff but she was busy and I was hungry!
The lady ran over and scolded me like a naughty child saying
"EXCUSE ME! You can't grab those! Now I gotta re-wash all those because I don't know where your hands have been!... THANKS!"
I shouldn't have gone into the side room and looked for forks but grabbing forks BY THE HANDLES I wouldn't imagine should draw such a condescending and rude response.
It seems like maybe she resents having to clean up after people who eat from
next door and I could understand that but if you don't like cleaning up food cartons from next door DONT OFFER THEIR MENUS on the tables.
I'm guessing FBH figured out real quick (like we did) if you don't offer some kind of decent food offering, people leave after a beer to go get food.
If you don't like serving and cleaning up after reasonable people you are in the wrong industry because that is literally, the job.
Or, you could open a kitchen, staff it, buy perishable items for it everyday and get used to cleaning grease traps but let me tell you, that is 1000% more work than picking up a few to go boxes and throwing them In the trash.
I get it, the service industry is one of the hardest jobs I have ever had. Me and my staff saw plenty of real abuse and we had to grin and bear it but for sure there are limits.
I didn't even step in the zip code of any of that kind of transgression And didn't deserve that kind of tongue lashing
I'm not sure what has happened to the service industry in the states. People used to go out for nice food and nice service. If we don't get that why not just eat at home and save the 30-40$ per head plus tip.
I ran a tap house that my wife and I lived above for 5 years.
I have had all shades of abuse from
pig clients that leave a giant mess and no tip, to people literally locking themselves I our only bathroom and passing out!
Our restaurant was in Peru with lots of tourists and Peruvians and many other cultures don't leave tips no matter how great the service. I'm looking at you frenchies.
For some reason since we have moved back to the states in 2020 many American service people have an attitude like they are getting abused for asking them to simply do their jobs. They want a 20% tip for order at the counter, pick up from the counter, buss your own table in a restaurant that its hard to find even a wiped down table In.
i will never go back to the FBH as long as the dark haired lady is still working there. And if she happens to be the owner, the FBH will do that job for me by closing soon enough because this lady doesn't have the stomach for the job if someone grabbing a fork by the handle makes her fly off the handle like she did.
Anyway, like Forest Gump.
That's all I gotta say about that. read more
