A very disappointing shopping experience: We don't usually shop at Lowe's simply because my husband and I buy everything we need at Home Depot. However, we found an item that the Stuart Home Depot didn't have, so we decided to purchase the item at Lowe's in Stuart. When it was time to pay for the item, I wrote a personal check from BOA and to my surprise I was told that my check was declined. I knew my check was good and I knew I had sufficient funds to cover the item. The check was from BOA "premier" account; these accounts require a high minimum daily balance. When I asked the agent at Lowe's why was my check declined, she suggested I call "Certegy Check Services", I then asked to speak to a floor Manager. The agent called "Carmela" Front End Mgr at Lowe's. After I carefully explained our problem and I offered to contact BOA, Carmela simply said "there was nothing she could do to help us" and she also suggested I contact the Certegy Check Services again. I asked Carmela if she could dial Certegy from their phone and she refused saying that it was totally up to me to contact them. I then paid for the item with my credit card. After my purchase, my husband and I contacted BOA, the bank representative confirmed that all information in the check was correct and that the amount was within my limits. Furthermore, the representative at BOA said there was no "inquiry" received from any establishment regarding approval at their end.
We then contacted Certegy Check Services, after a series of ID questions; including routing #, account #, DL#, etc. he agent at Certegy said she simply could not verify the information. When I asked the agent why was my check declined, the agent responded that she was NOT sure because the transaction was declined by a "third party computer program"...I went online today to the Certegy Declined Check looked up and I entered my information, I received this: When a check is presented, the transaction goes through Certegy's computer based models..since your check number was too low, since you never wrote a check at the store, your information is then questionable. Please click here to download the free and confidential enrollment form for our Certegy VIP program. This free enrollment allows us to add your information to Certegy's VIP status. Although we cannot guarantee every check will be approved, the Certegy VIP will greatly reduce the chance of a decline.
I have never experienced this treatment at Home Depot. So Lowe's you can keep your business!! read more
