Lowe's of Orangeburg is a solid home improvement store that carries the usual Lowe's lineup -- lumber, tools, appliances, paint, seasonal items, and home project materials. It's a convenient stop for both quick project runs and larger home improvement shopping. It's usually a good experience here, but I was especially impressed during my most recent visit because of their newer in-store pickup locker system. When you walk in, you can scan your order barcode at the pickup screen (or enter your order number), and one of the lockers automatically pops open with your items inside. It was quick, easy, and pretty cool to see in action. I even took a video of the process to share with this review. There's only so much you can fit in a locker, but hey, this is a big improvement over the old process. Still not five stars as I'm not a fan of their current return policy. read more

We have spent an extraordinary amount of money in both of these stores. We rarely need to make returns, but we just had a recent instance of having to return 5 bags of polymeric sand because we decided to have the job done by a contractor. I saved the receipt and my husband went to the store to return the sand. It was a VERY UNPLEASANT experience to learn that there is a 90 day window on returns (with receipt) and NO EXCEPTIONS ARE GRANTED FOR A RESELLABLE ITEM such as polymeric sand! From the outside it looks like Lowe is fancier than Home Depot. Once I went inside there were less people, items seem to be better organized, less crowded. I lost it at Lowes tonight. Hard on mad and ready for a fucking fight. Last night 1/30 Fri tried to use a store issued store credit card with 4.88 and it wont process. they check the balance and it is $4.88. they told me to call CS and I did the next day. Sat I called CS and they told me to resolve it at the store but at the store they told me to call the lowes finance dept which I did but that num is bootleg! I called customer care and they had us on three way and the CS at Lowes was still resistant, telling me maybe go to Clarkstown lowes. oh I lost it big time. fucking affirmative. there is a side to me I am embarassed about. it came out. not pretty. This Lowe's location beats another one in Yonkers every time. It took two visits for me to notice the ratchetness and lack of customer service at that Yonkers spot. But we've been loyal to this Orangeburg location for the last few years because of polite customers service and always a home run for us- even if it takes us out of our way. Unknowingly, our dishwasher had a slower than a turtle pace leak over the years- so hubs and his friend ripped out the buckled laminate flooring. One thing snowballed into another back in Spring '21 and got rid of everything in the kitchen. We wanted the best accurate quotes for our galley kitchen remodel and get help in design and glad we worked with Roberto. He was patient with our so-so measurements and even went as far as getting us multiple estimates to help us save a bit especially with hubs' Veteran's discount. Based on our style go-to and cabinet color, he took a really good swing at coming up with a rendering. The only thing we needed to do was wait for one of Lowe's own contractors to do an at-home professional measurement. Except the one contractor Lowe's provided was really short with his answers and no customer finesse. And that's the major disconnect between Lowe's itself and their contractors. I'll still shop here- the way we've been doing- but I will not be using these folks for home repairs. And if folks are spending $20k, $30k and more to redo their kitchen, all homeowners want is a contractor who isn't snippy, willing to be with you EVERY step of the way and not find your project to be a nuisance. read more

DO NOT GET ANY HOME IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS DONE WITH THIS LOWES or maybe any of them! we have had the WORST experience ever! We signed a contract with this Lowes for new home flooring in early September and found out the order was never placed in October because we called for a status update ( after we made full payment) . Our sales associate was PRINCESS who never placed the order or followed up. Additionally, every time we called the store for an update or to ask for a resolution, the assistant store manager STELLA would always say she was "waiting to hear back" from someone else and never called back. It is now November and the floors got delivered with incomplete items that we were told were included in our contract. After floor delivery, the store stated that we had to pay an additional $1000 for an assessment that we were never told about. From the beginning until now this process has been a nightmare and the worst customer service we have ever experienced. Save your money and get projects done elsewhere. We have decided to cancel the job and get a full refund because of the stress and now our home will not be done for the holidays. They gave us no sort of compensation for all of their mishaps and were so unprofessional in their follow ups or lack thereof. I do not usually write negative reviews but I truly mean it when I say DO NOT get work done from this LOWES. P.S - If there is ONE person who tried to do anything for us it was MARVIN BLANC. Recently my water heater went on the brink, so I headed out to Home Depot, yea I know, I'm reviewing Lowe's. So I asked if they delivered installed and remove the old appliance, and was it a third party contractor/provider, which they said it was. Bottom line it would cost more for delivery, installation and removal than the cost of the water heater. Nope not me, off to Lowe's. Ended up picking up a unit and was told they could deliver install and remove and it wasn't a third party it was Lowe's. Sale!!!! Filled out some info, this was Friday and I was told I would be called or emailed for a site survey before delivery. That never happened Not Friday Saturday Sunday or Monday. So decided to go in person but I digress. Remember when I said it was a third party contractor, well, it was. Now why would I say that, so without any pertinent info on what the actual delivery would entail (basement , stairs, accessibility) it was actually the same price Home Depot quoted. The very same price and the same doubled cost of the water heater. What a racket For the money they're charging I could've had the unit replaced and installed and thrown a barbecue for all involved. As well as given all in attendance a pretty nice tip, and would've been able to buy myself dinner that night and drinks. Here's to third party contractors! We recently moved to the area and this is the only convenient home improvement store in the area. I typically prefer Lowe's to Home Depot, but this store is terrible. It actually looks nice, but there is no one there who is able to adequately assist with anything. The worst part is their checkout. I was just there on a Saturday at about 11am and there was only 1 full service register open. Even worse, all self checkout lanes were inoperable, and they just had the guy who should be getting them working ringing everyone up. So the line was about 10 people deep. If you go at night, there are no full-service checkouts open and they only offer self-checkout, but I have never seen a time when all 4 self-checkouts were operational. Typically only 2, maybe 3 will be working. This place has potential, but definitely needs a management overhaul. I am just hoping that someone at their corporate office takes note and cleans this place up. read more

My husband and I had the most frustrating experience in person in your store. We stood around for an hour and a half to get one of your employees to take our order. Then even worse when calling. You took our deposit for a storm door and never called us to make an appointment to measure. We called YOU and you gave us the run around. My parents needed several projects done and went to this Lowe's to use their installations service. I have to say thank you to Fred Gonzalez and Selkie Coffee in the flooring department, and Brian Cisneros in the door department. They were incredibly helpful, friendly, and most of all professional and responsive. My parents are getting up in years and they are occasionally hard of hearing or have a language barrier. They were treated with respect and care, especially by Brian who explained all the ins and outs of doors, solved a vexing problem with my parents' Lowe's account, and who ensured that they chose a quality door at a very reasonable price. Maybe we've gotten lucky, but we haven't had a problem yet going through installation services, and having people like Fred, Selkie, and Brian made it so much easier and reassuring to go through Lowe's. Horrible store, not enough associates and the ones there weren't helpful at all. Items not located where indicated. Curbside pickup is a joke, you call (several times) someone eventually picks up but can't hear you because of all the noise in the background at the store. Online orders for pickup took over a week, I just ran into the store and got what i needed, wanted to try curbside but it was a complete waste of time. I found items online at good prices but then was never able to get as they didn't have any stock. I will not ever shop there again, cancelling my lowe's credit card and sticking with Home Depot. read more

This is my experience purchasing a fence through Lowes** In a nutshell I paid $10,000 + for a fence from Lowes in May and its now August and I still dont have a fence and Lowes has never once returned a call from me regarding this project despite calling them countless times. It took an experience so incredibly bad like this with Lowes to bring me out of my multi-year Yelp Hiatus just because I want everyone to know how terrible this experience was. I chose Lowes to complete a fence mostly because I figured bigger company, more resources to get things done, decent reputation, but I was way off. The guy came out to survey my yard and see what I wanted and it was all good. Even talked me into a Lowes Credit card to put the whole project on. This was fine by me because it gave me something like 7% off the entire project and I planned to pay the whole thing off with my first payment anyway, going smoothly so far, they said we can get started in the next 2-3 weeks and weeks and I was excited. The deal with Lowes is once they have your money they could care less about your project. Weeks went by with me calling in all the time just to get a status update. Every time it was either an excuse like "Well it has been rainy so projects are probably delayed" to well they are probably waiting on approval", etc. They would blame the contractor doing the actual work at every step of the way (Lowes does not do the actual work btw, they sub contract it out). After maybe 6 weeks went by, it turns out they never handed my yard blueprints in to get the permit approved. Lowes and the contractor are supposed handle this and the guy comes back to me weeks later and says the yard survey (which he took a picture of on his phone) are not high quality enough to pass for the permit. It seems like we could have figured this out 6 weeks or 2 months ago if you actually handed them in then but no, you forgot. So now, the guy comes back out to my house, takes my actual plans (which I doubt I'll ever get back) and agrees to take them to the contractor or to the borough. Several more weeks go by, at this point I'm calling Lowes AND the contractor every couple of days trying to get some kind of answers or any update as to where my project stands, have my plans been turned in to the borough, etc. Lowes says they turned them in and the contractor says they dont have them. The contractor finally lets me know they received the plans yesterday (2 weeks after Lowes supposedly dropped them off again) and that they are taking them to the borough for approval. The whole thing was just incredibly frustrating, Lowes pointing the finger at the contractor and Vice Verse, openly just lying about delivering my plans. Worst of all is all the lunches I spent instead of eating, calling Lowes just for any kind of update. Every time I would call whoever I speak to at Lowes would promise to check and call me back and every single time they would never call back. it got to the point where maybe after the 15th time of this no call back my conversation with a woman in customer service got so heated that a man jumped on the line out of nowhere (he must have been listening in) identified himself as a supervisor and assured me he knows how frustrating it can be when ppl dont call back and that he would call the contractor himself right now and call me back in 15 minutes. Of course, weeks later no call back. Remember I said I put the whole project on a Lowes Credit Card they talked me into signing up for and just planned to pay off the entire balance right away. When your project is 2 months in and you have no fence, no idea on a timeline on when the project might start and the company wont even return your calls, you get kind of hesitant to pay off the whole thing because who knows whats going to happen with this project? So I paid the minimum balance one time and got to pay a nice little $250 interest charge on my 2nd bill... Much more than the minimum payment.. One other highlight is one time I was so frustrated and a woman I was talking to said "you can just get a refund if you would like?" I said fabulous, why didnt you tell me this earlier? She says "yeah, you just wont get all your money back because these are custom parts"... Whats the point of a refund if you dont get your money back? And custom parts? These are standard pieces of fencing with the exception of 1 custom piece that needs to go over some tree roots.... Just all around terrible, literally one of the worst experiences of my life. Still out $10 grand and no fence to speak of... pretty sure they never once returned a call to me, one of the worst decisions I have ever made to trust these guys. I waz there 5:30 to buy dyson vacuum... There was a man working that area and talk to other customers anout washer and dryer...I approach him after they finished. I ask him (do u have stock for dyson that model) he said (actually,if we have sample there we have stock, but we don't keep stock under that sample....you go to cashiers ask them where is the stock location.), I went to cashier ask them...he said he doesnt have phone to look at it. And he using his phone pretending check something and told me (it is located in construction parts area...).I go there to check, there are only some woods and some other construction parts... There is an other cashier (korean) told me, (I am work here 16 years, the people told you ,they are just rush to go home, and they have no responsibility ...and it is not the first time,its happen all the time.) Placed an order online for pick-up and they cancelled it without notifying me (because they could not obtain the products I had purchased through their website). Placed a second order for delivery and only 1 item out of 4 were available. They charged my account for total price and said all items had been delivered. Been working for four days to correct it and they keep assigning different people to work it out with no resolution so far. Nightmare. I strongly suggest you stay away!!!! Came in to order paint. No one at paint center so we went to customer service for assistance where an employee was paged to come to the paint center. The employee who was paged screamed in a childlike voice "I'm refilling the snacks right now." We waited for an additional 10 min afterward. I signed a contract on February 1st for a new kitchen. I took off work twice for the cabinets to be delivered and they finally came on the 3rd date I was given. Those 18 cabinets then spent 56 days all over the livingroom until they were installed. We were told there would be 4 outlets in the kitchen but only 3 were installed, 1 of which that was installed behind the oven. Our project manager hardly returns our calls. We were told that we would have to pay for the outlet to be moved and I don't think that's right since Lowe's did all of the measurements and the installation of the outlet, but that was eventually sorted out after 2 weeks of arguing. We also told the designer that we wanted gray grout on the tiles and they used white. I also sent pictures to the contractor on the direction I wanted the floor tiles and he put them the wrong way. Going to the store to complain doesn't do anything. After 132 days and countless phone calls the kitchen is finally completed. I don't believe there could have been a more frustrating situation. Ordered a new exterior front door it was delivered with blemishes all over it I sent the manager pics and he said he will send a new door and have it shrink wrapped for me. Very unprofessional Asking if I damaged the door when I called them one hour after delivery. Well got the new door with blemishes again no shrink wrap and they delivered it in the rain and would not put it in the garage for My wife. An astonishingly poor experience. Do not go here or you will be sad for the rest of the day! We had to search all around for assistance on a quiet evening. The workers we found didn't know much about anything other than the aisle numbers. They could not assist with any other questions and had to read the boxes like us. They had no knowledge beyond a layperson. It took us nearly 2 hours to find what we needed. One guy actually gave us an indoor-only product for our outdoor project. We also needed lumber, and no one knew anything about wood and the cutting guy said he couldn't cut. The checkout was horrible too. There was one human, 4 broken self-checkout machines, and one functional machine. I usually don't write reviews, bad or good. But this one needs to be known about. I am completely convinced that Lowe's will go under. They would be much better off being acquired by better management, re-staffed with better paid knowledgeable workers or investing in chat bots who can answer questions helpfully.
