Totally unexpected pleasant surprise!!! Easy to access right off I-77 and they have a decent amount of parking as well (in the back). Super cute outdoor patio and seating inside too. Quaint, local feel and service was warm and genuine!! Met there for a Windsor Kittens yoga event and had the best time. Beers were a huge bonus! I tried the Kolsch (excellent) and the blueberry seltzer (yum). Will most definitely be back, loved the vibe!

Fabulous beer and because they don't serve food, you can bring your own. I had a delicious pint of the Green Clouds Lager. Perfectly hoppy with a smooth and clean taste, I had it with a pizza I had brought from Blaze. Lower Left has inside and outdoor covered seating. A small parking lot for now and that's okay. If you're touring Charlotte South End breweries, you need to put LLB on your list. [Review 17290 overall - 3280 in North Carolina - 808 of 2022.]

Went here on a whim because it was fairly close to my hotel and was not disappointed. Both beers that I got were really good. Also, the bartender was super personal and provided a good sense for the establishment. Also, a definite spot for dog owners. There was a house dog that was super cute and multiple other dogs that show up while I was there. Definitely a weiner dog convention. Lol

Flight of deliciousness (L to R) -- juicy McJuiceface, Edge of Precipice, Blix, Cemetery Gate.

Phenomenal neighborhood brewery with a great atmosphere, low-key vibe, and some of the best beers I've had in South end. A local friend and coworker introduced me and a few other coworkers to Lower Left for happy hour and even though we visited two other breweries during our Charlotte visit that week, we were all still thinking of and talking about the beers we had here. I had a flight so I could sample multiple things during our brief visit -- Juicy McJuiceface (the most crushable, juicy hazy IPA), Edge of Precipice (solid pale ale), Blix (nicely balanced, highly enjoyable coffee stout), and cemetery gates (only my second smoked beer and this one was vastly superior). Inside, behind the garage roll up doors, is a low-key atmosphere with friendly service, and the cutest guard dog ever alongside the bar. Parking is a bit sparse out front, but that's the case for most of the Charlotte breweries I enjoy, and this place is definitely worth hunting for a parking spot.

Enjoyed my recent visit to LLB. The tasting room was crowded with dogs and regulars. The brewtender was warm and welcoming. The beers were ok, not sure there were any standouts. I will def have to go back to try a few different ones.

Service is unbeatable! The beertender was over the top helpful! Smaller space, with a little parking lot and equal indoor and outdoor seating. They are dog friendly both indoor and out. They have diverse beers, and offer flights. They have a self pour water jug, and beer to go.

As a small town girl, moving to Charlotte was intimidating to say the very least. Everything is just so big and booming here, it can be overwhelming. Not at Lower Left! My husband randomly pulled up to this brewery and I immediately fell in love with the intimate neighborhood feel. There was a little hot dog stand out front and when we entered, we were greeted by the nicest bartender! Their beer selection was a lot of fun and they offer flights so you can sample several different beers. I absolutely loved the coconut vanilla blonde beer! The flavor is so unique, light and refreshing for summer. This particular night, they had a live 2 man band playing out back and that was nice. Bring your dog! The small friendly environment and the delicious unique beers are right up our alley! We will definitely be back to Lower Left!

Cool but tiny sspot which I mentioned in my initial review, but it is like coming home, the guys who run the bar are very friendly and make you feel like you have been coming forever, even if it is your first visit. They have a pay it forward board, so if you want to meet with someone and then they can not make it you can pay for their beer and leave their name on the board, so when they do come in, point out your name and they will get you, your beer. Like everywhere else not very busy but lots of places to sit and stay distanced. Come support them and seriously relax, enjoy it !

Great brewery. Food truck there on Saturday. Nice selection of brews. Hoppy for him and stouts for me. Also sours. Inside/outside seating.

A newish addition to the neighborhood settled nearby some giants like Brewers at Yancy and OMB, this place feels tiny in comparison. It feels a little off the beaten path but can be accessed in a 5 minutes walk from either location. The small taproom is located inside some repurposed garage doors and another room is off to the side which appears to be used for private events. They also have seating out back and out front. I got to come in here a couple times this past weekend and finally check it out. The beer list is small and in my opinion is too heavy on IPAs. I found a sour I enjoyed and tried a really interesting brew called the Juicy McJuiceface which I also enjoyed. Besides that their options felt limited. I get that they are smaller and fairly new so I am hoping that as time goes on they will begin to experiment more and expand their offerings. The vibe is great here, reminds me of taprooms I've seen in places like Boone and Asheville where the environment feels more authentic and less cookie cutter and commercialized. I also got a chance to talk with some of the guys behind the bar and they were very friendly and you could tell they had a lot of pride in what they did. Truthfully if they added some more variety to their beer offerings this would probably be one of my favorite breweries in the city. I will for sure be coming back and will recommend this place to friends.

The German biers are some of the best I've tried. Both the Cooper altbier and Hornets Nest were excellent while their porter was a little too heavy for me. I'd recommend the sampler plate with the Jalapeño Cheddar Bratwurst as one choice ( you get three) and Jumbo Pretzel with Cooper Bier cheese & Düsseldorf mustard. The sides, such as their German potato salad, red cabbage and sauerkraut are very good. In addition theres a good selection of sandwiches, burgers, salads to choose from. The outside venue is amazing with ample outside seating featuring a fire pit, corn hole ( collect bags at the bar), children's playground and a water station for pets. Overall a great place to grab a beer and enjoy some authentic German style food at reasonable pricing. In addition OMB features private rooms for special events. One note parking could be problematic when it gets busy on weekends or special occasions but if you're willing to walk you'll find parking somewhere .

They could not have been more attentive and accommodating. The beer is S-tier good. Both the selections brewed on site and the ones imported from Hanover. They had 3 different Bocks on. I love German styles, but malty is my wheelhouse and they had it more than covered. The Eisbock and Weizenbock were particularly amazing, but I drank around the board and didn't find a stinker. The food, which was largely trad Deustch dishes, was equally fantastic. They have few American dishes for less daring palates. On the same weekend, i hit nearly every other brewery in Loso and Gastonia. Gilde wins by a large margin in terms of beer and food quality. The next best classic Euro themed brewery in NC is Lesser Known in Greensboro. If you like German and Czech styles, these 2 have you covered. I plan to return to Gilde at the end of this month for their 500 year anniversary party. To the German leadership team, thanks for taking a chance on NC. The team over here is doing an amazing job.

Updated Review (2026):…read more We've been coming to Gilde since they opened their doors in 2022. When we first began coming, they served delicious authentic German food. Unfortunately, they've changed their menu a dozen times and have removed our favorites from the menu (the original braised pork (they changed it over time, but the original was amazing) and the goulash) :( They have slowly evolved their menu into bar food to cater to the party-going crowd as their street has become more trafficked -- which now means a greater likelihood of having to succumb to the paid parking garage. We're big fans of their beers and did a brewery tour & tasting when Gilde was at its peak. Their beers are the reason I at least give them 2 stars: the pale wheat and red rooster are especially delicious. We even spent our NYE 2025 there and did the stein-holding competition. We've tried new things on the menu, desperate to give them more tries... but we keep ending up disappointed. For example, the steak sandwich is not a steak sandwich, but rather a kebab. We've driven the 40 min drive to go there and show up and then they are closed for a private event (with no notice on their social media). We have also brought friends there and have waited an hour for a server. Last Mother's Day, we showed up for dinner at 7:45 p.m (sure, that's a tad late.. but we left our home at 7) and were told the kitchen was already closed. This Mother's Day, we waited 45 minutes, with no updates or warnings, to be seen by a server. When we tried to place our order, we were told that we couldn't yet place our food order and that we had to order drinks separately because their kitchen was slammed. I'm no expert, but why not still accept customer's orders and speed up the kitchen by bulk-cooking? Can't multiple brats be made at once? Or larger portions of sauerkraut or bacon? Also, only a third of the tables were taken.. so that sounds like some poor kitchen capacity. When we were finally served our food (still took awhile even after putting in the food order), they had served my husbands meal 10 min before mine and then I was served mine.. and it turns out they still had forgotten about our daughter's French toast and had to START it. The disorganization or perhaps just lack of effort/care has gotten ridiculous. So disappointed at the way our favorite restaurant went downhill!
