Great service, food and fun place. Lots of room for large parties. We tried a variety of items all good.

Updated Review (2026): We've been coming to Gilde since they opened their doors in 2022. When we first began coming, they served delicious authentic German food. Unfortunately, they've changed their menu a dozen times and have removed our favorites from the menu (the original braised pork (they changed it over time, but the original was amazing) and the goulash) :( They have slowly evolved their menu into bar food to cater to the party-going crowd as their street has become more trafficked -- which now means a greater likelihood of having to succumb to the paid parking garage. We're big fans of their beers and did a brewery tour & tasting when Gilde was at its peak. Their beers are the reason I at least give them 2 stars: the pale wheat and red rooster are especially delicious. We even spent our NYE 2025 there and did the stein-holding competition. We've tried new things on the menu, desperate to give them more tries... but we keep ending up disappointed. For example, the steak sandwich is not a steak sandwich, but rather a kebab. We've driven the 40 min drive to go there and show up and then they are closed for a private event (with no notice on their social media). We have also brought friends there and have waited an hour for a server. Last Mother's Day, we showed up for dinner at 7:45 p.m (sure, that's a tad late.. but we left our home at 7) and were told the kitchen was already closed. This Mother's Day, we waited 45 minutes, with no updates or warnings, to be seen by a server. When we tried to place our order, we were told that we couldn't yet place our food order and that we had to order drinks separately because their kitchen was slammed. I'm no expert, but why not still accept customer's orders and speed up the kitchen by bulk-cooking? Can't multiple brats be made at once? Or larger portions of sauerkraut or bacon? Also, only a third of the tables were taken.. so that sounds like some poor kitchen capacity. When we were finally served our food (still took awhile even after putting in the food order), they had served my husbands meal 10 min before mine and then I was served mine.. and it turns out they still had forgotten about our daughter's French toast and had to START it. The disorganization or perhaps just lack of effort/care has gotten ridiculous. So disappointed at the way our favorite restaurant went downhill! read more

This was a nice spot to meet up with a few friends on Friday night. We were having trouble finding places that stayed open late enough we weren't meeting until 10 o'clock and a lot of the breweries were closing around 11 or midnight. This one closes at midnight, but that was enough time for us to start with one round there. There was a private event going on the patio, so we sat inside. It was not very crowded to fry an open space with some high tops and normal tables. We sat at a booth and ordered a few drinks and a couple sausage. I had one of the THC drinks, the blueberry fizz and my friend ordered the margarita and beers. We enjoyed our food and drinks and had a good time hanging out with one another. This place is huge and has a nice patio. The good: service was phenomenal and the prices were reasonable. The mimosa and beer were also good. The not so good: biscuit was dry. The shepherds pie was more like soup. Not shepherds pie at all. Having lived in England, I should know. And the giant pretzel was more bread than pretzel tasting, although the dips were good. Been here a couple of times, great place but Not very gluten free friendly. They only have one cider option and only a few things on the food menu are gf friendly. Service wasn't too great. My bf was sitting at a table alone for 20 mins, no server came so he went to the bar to order. After the rest of us showed up and he was done with his food the server showed up and was confused why he ordered at the bar and not through him.. server barely came back and when he did only talked to one person at the table at a time and walked away before anyone else could order anything. I got the Baja bowl, one of the few things able, and it was just okay. Skimped on the shrimp, and too much bland rice and lettuce. Without the banana peppers this bowl would've been pretty flavorless. If you eat everything - this place is great for you. Tons of food and drink deals. Street parking that's free. read more

My friend and I stopped by Glide Brewery on Thursday to celebrate my birthday. For a Thursday evening, it was pretty empty inside at least on the dinner side of the brewery. They have lots of seating options, both inside and out. Once seated, our waiter was super friendly, personable, and attentive. Other staff members were also helpful Ed and did regular check-ins. Now on to food and drinks, I ordered the Glide 1546, which is fruity cocktail. It was really good and sweet just as I like. They also made it into a mocktail version for my friend, which was just as good! So if you're not much of a drinker, definitely try it. For food, I ordered the chicken schnitzel with fries. It was good. Only complaint I had was that it was a little dry and a bit bland. My friended ordered the knackwurst. Hers was really good and juicy! If you're coming with a larger group or just enjoy playing games, they have lots of board and card games near the entrance for you to grab and play at your table. read more

There's a lot of breweries in charlotte, we know that. But the Gilde brewery was a vibe! I lived in Lower South End, super close to this location and it was pretty cool. The tall ceilings, visible brewery looking machines and stuff made it to be a pretty cool spot to hang out and eat in. I went alone, but if you went with a group of friends, it could be a cool place to catch up, grab some food, watch some sports & they even had board games/card games you can grab. The food wasn't super memorable which is why it got lower stars from me, but it could have been what I got - I'm sure if you're into like sausages and stuff, this place would be great for you. Sunday afternoon as I am doing the family food shop, it was time for a frosty adult beverage. I opted to sit at one of the hightops in the bar area where I set up my laptop and wrote out a review or two while I waited and waited and waited for a server or the bartender to come by. After 20 minutes, I finally popped up the bar and orders a Pilsner. Cold, refreshing and crisp. It almost made up for the wait. They have a really nice German-style menu here. Very disappointed in this brewery. Arrived, sat at bar for 15 min, no service whatsoever. Tried to make eye contact but was unsuccessful. Mentioned my experience to staff as I was exiting. Visited this past Saturday and was absolutely floored. First, the hospitality was amazing. E had the attention of the bartender, or server and the taproom manager. They could not have been more attentive and accommodating. The beer is S-tier good. Both the selections brewed on site and the ones imported from Hanover. They had 3 different Bocks on. I love German styles, but malty is my wheelhouse and they had it more than covered. The Eisbock and Weizenbock were particularly amazing, but I drank around the board and didn't find a stinker. The food, which was largely trad Deustch dishes, was equally fantastic. They have few American dishes for less daring palates. On the same weekend, i hit nearly every other brewery in Loso and Gastonia. Gilde wins by a large margin in terms of beer and food quality. The next best classic Euro themed brewery in NC is Lesser Known in Greensboro. If you like German and Czech styles, these 2 have you covered. I plan to return to Gilde at the end of this month for their 500 year anniversary party. To the German leadership team, thanks for taking a chance on NC. Service was great, not crowded when we went, and server was still very much on point. Ambiance was very cool, very nice German beer hall. Food was excellent. Wife had the Currywurst, excellent. This is the most authentic German food I have had in Charlotte (my grandmother is from Germany and I lived in Munich for a year). The service is absolutely amazing! The manager helps out with everything and is so accommodating! The atmosphere is great because they have sports playing all the time and they have games like beer stein shuffleboard where you can win free beer!! They have board games too for you to take to the table. I highly recommend the weisswurst (I have not found this anywhere in Charlotte and it's my favorite!). Their sauerkraut is amazing and the soups are amazing. If you like traditional German lagers get the Gilde Pilsner, it's phenomenal and reminds me of hofbräuhaus beer from Munich. read more

I didn't think any other German brewery in this town could beat OMB Brewery...but for me at least, Gilde beats it. This place itself may not have been as big as OMB overall (considering their enormous patio area), but Gilde had lofty dining space (both in- and outdoors), with lotsa comfy seatings, nice decor/ambiance (possibly a tad more upscaled than OMB?), festive overhead music...the whole works. But there's more! They feature contest-entertainment thru audience participation on weekends...with this fun/funny "Hold the Stein" contest for both men and women. Think the winners won a trip to Octoberfest in Germany?? Maybe OMB holds similar contests-entertainment, but this was a first time experience for me. In any case, the dining experience was so fun! Then the food! I've always been a fan of Schnitzel, but theirs were the best I've had to date. Their Schnitzel was so thin and crispy (almost like a Katsu!), and the sides (cold potato salad?), as well as this wild mushroom sauce, were delish as well. Aside from this amazing Schnitzel dish, we also got a small portion of Spaetzle, which was really good. However, THE best discovery here was this Pork Ragu Lango...OMG!!! It was beyond my expectations. Somewhat like a beefed up Nachos plate, but MUCH better! The only disappointment was their Apple Strudel. Too thick, I thought. Somehow, we expected better. Still, overall, possibly THE best German food I've ever had. Also one of the best foods I've had at a brewery...in the Top 3? BTW, my drink was really good too. I got this Mule, but looked and tasted more like a Cocktail...which I didn't really mind. Service was also great...fast, friendly and attentive. I will say, however, that the parking situation was NOT great. Quite a pain really. Turned out there was some parking area off to the side somewhere near this brewery where we could have parked, but upon arriving, it wasn't so easy to find this parking area. We had to drive around 4-5 times to find a spot. Normally, this parking difficulty might have prompted me to dock a star, but we had so much fun at this place, I just can't. Glad I finally tried this brewery! It has a huge indoor space and front patio that was partially covered. Inside has a mix of booths, long beer hall style tables, individual tables, and lounge style seating. We got flights to try some of the different beers, all were really delicious. We also tried the pretzel and cheese "dip" the buffalo wings which were really good, and the smoked sausage with German potato salad which looked good. Some of the food pictures on yelp look outdated, for example the potato wedges are French fries. I will definitely be returning for more food and beers! read more

I have been wanting to try Gilde for a while and finally got a chance to over the weekend. Being a German Bier Hall we measured our impressions of the place against Olde Mecklenburg which is just down the street. Our first impression was that the place looks nice from the outside and has ample outdoor seating right out front. Though there is really no parking other than a couple of parking lots within walking distance. There is some street parking, but the roads are quite narrow and it adds to the overall congestion in the area. Once we got inside we were quite impressed; the place is large and open with abundant seating and a large bar area with high top tables and a glass wall that highlights the brewhouse. There is also a stage area that has a projector wall that shows some of the breweries long history. While there is a fair amount of outdoor seating, there is no biergarten area similar to what OMB has. The food was good, we tried the large pretzel and some brats/sausages. Everything was prepared very well and the German Potato Salad was terrific! The beer ranged from just ok to quite good. We each got a flight and had a couple of beers. I was impressed with their large selection German bier, much larger than OMB's selection. The Urbock and the Bock^2 were both quite good, and my wife really enjoyed the More Than a Pils, and the Worth the Wait. The only real complaint that we had for the day was the slow service. While the servers were friendly, they were extremely slow and we often had to flag them down to get their attention. if it was a busy day I would be more understanding, but the place was not very busy and there seemed to be ample staff... Overall, we really enjoyed this place and will be back! read more

When this place first opened it had the beet German food, and was a cool spot, came in yesterday, and its a sports bar now, loud TVs playing sport commentary not even a game, menu is just like every other sports bar in charlotte with a few German meals added in, so sad to see them trying to become something there are 100s of in Charlotte, won't be back. read more

Everything at Gilde from start to finish was fantastic! The atmosphere is so fun and our waiter was really informative and responsive. They have a beer stein competition every Saturday at 6:00 and we missed that by a hair but will definitely try to catch the next one! The beer steins are huge and the beer was tasty. We started with a bretzel with cheese and let me just tell you, that cheese!! Phenomenal. We ordered a mustard trio as well as veal schnitzel and the fried chicken (started with a B on the menu). The cuts of meat were thin and crispy but not dry at all! I loved the mushroom gravy that was served on top of my fried chicken. The fingerling potatoes were SO good. I'm obsessed with potatoes and these were really good. I want to go back and try more food and beer! I heard they have a Oktoberfest here soon that I really want to check out. Great location for German beer! Went here with James for a birthday celebration. He had been here before and suggested we go here and get some German beer and food and play some trivia. It's a true German brewery going back tp the 1500's so they brew according to the purity law. James had the Pilsener and I had the Radler which is a nice mix of beer and lemonade We had some great food; brats, potato salad and sauerkraut. They transferred their Michelin Chef from Germany. We had great service from Noel who told us about their Oktoberfest plans. They have a huge outdoor patio and a large screen HDTV inside if the game is on. James and I watched the NFL opener with the Bills at Rams. Trivia is at 7p on Thursday and was a lot of fun. The only down side is the lack of parking. read more

We previously visited Gilde to celebrate my birthday and my husband proposed to me that night!! The food was fantastic - that night. We just went there for a late lunch/early dinner and it was absolutely terrible. We shared a burger and the chicken club. I ordered potato wedges for my side... the burger was underdone despite the menu stating that it would be cooked to 165, the chicken was still slightly pink and the wedges were not the ones pictured on their social media but regular fries. read more

I visited this brewery during Queens Feast, the food was delicious! I really have been challenging my palette and this place did just that . The Service was amazing the waiter had the coolest mustache and beard I ever seen his personality matched He told me that Queen Charlotte Herself favored this Beer being that right now Queen Charlotte is on everyone's mind because of Netflix this was a cool fact !!! Gilde is the best German food in Charlotte IMO. Their back fish is one of my favorite dishes and their Hungarian flatbreads you can't find anywhere else. I have tried a few beers--all really good and I really enjoy their lemon radler. It's low abv at 2.7% so I don't feel as guilty about pounding a big stein full. And I could eat their sauerkraut every day it's soo good! read more

Came on Father's Day and we were so happy we did! We got a table shortly after they opened and the place was spacious and felt like an authentic European brewery. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable regarding their beers. We had the pretzel to share (came out nice and warm with a German cheese sauce). The schnitzel (came with potato salad and a berry sauce). We also ordered the bratz and it came with the most delicious saurkraut. We got the summer bier and a flight as well. Can't wait to go back! We decided to take Dad here for Fathers Day. Gilde has interesting history--Authentic German Brewery from Hannover German-the original. It was decided to create their first American brewery in Charlotte due to connection to Queen Charlotte Mecklenburg-Strelitz. First Beer: good selection of beers they make there-- they use their recipes and brewing techniques from German. We tried a few on tap - everything was good- a little hoppy. Go get a flight and sample Food: I ordered the fish- the fish dish was ok- it looked kind of like Gordon fishermen's frozen fish. The fish was very thin and looked minced- mostly batter but batter taste good. It was very greasy. The potato's were good- nice spice, as a vegetable the little tiny bit of lettuce on plate was disappointing. Now, other members of our group loved their food- they got Schnitzel, Spaetzle, Bratwurst--they said it was good. Service: was excellent!! We did have reservations-the hosts were friendly and welcoming, they sat us right away. Our waitress was knowledgeable, friendly and made sure were taking care of. She would come back and check on us through the meal. I also like the manager was also working --brings food. Ambiance: I enjoyed that the most -well along with the beer. It is lively, kind of like a big party with family and friends. They have music and other live entertainment, contest. Other stuff: It's pretty much a big open room with a bar area and kitchen -does have a little party room with a divider. There are booths, couches and in center long tables for big groups. Oh and a nice size outdoor seating. Parking---mostly you most park on street-you have to find a spot and walk -parking can be challenging to find if you want close to Pub. So overall good -mostly due to the atmosphere--I would go back to hang out and drink beer. If they offer a grilled thick piece of fish I may give that a try But I say go check this out. read more

You can't go wrong with a big German pretzel. This one is enough for 2 and comes with a delicious German cheese dip. The Wurst Flight is the best flight to order. Comes with a side of potatoes and a mustard trio. Both the Smoked Salmon and Pulled Pork Lagos were very unique and delicious. I would definitely get again... It comes on deep fried Hungarian flatbread brushed with garlic butter. A dish you won't find everywhere. The Spaetzel is a German staple. I must have been living under a rock to have missed this place! Gilde is a very cool, welcoming spot in that pocket of South End that is all about breweries. I really enjoyed the strong German vibe throughout the building. There's a big projector wall with rotating views of brewery life. The staff was the best, Hank was so personable and easygoing. He made us feel taken care of all night. One of our party has an allergy and she was easily accommodated. We started with flights and cocktails which everyone enjoyed. The beer selection is downright awesome. Our food orders came out super quick. Everything was hot and looked amazing. The house made sour kraut was some of the best I've had. The different wurst options were literally all delicious and the trio of mustard that accompanied them were a great addition. I really liked the sweet one. The langos was something new to me, like a fluffy fried flatbread that was quite satisfying. Honestly everyone cleaned their plates so we know it was a solid meal.
