    Sycamore Brewing, Charlotte
    Bruce K.

It took two tries to find Sycamore and the second was only because we'd found street parking. There is a parking deck but we did a quick in-and-out because there is no need to pay that much for parking in South End when there are other places that parking is free. Sycamore is on the Rail Trail and faces the light rail. Once you understand that, it's super easy to get to, especially on foot or you can take the train. It's between East/West and the soon to be built Southline station. Sycamore is fancy. Lots of exposed wood, great lighting and tables all about. Expect it to be full of local young professionals drinking and enjoying nibbles. The pizza looked great and they have burgers too. [Review 2507 of 2024 - 3960 in North Carolina - 23519 overall]

I stopped here for the first time before a concert and was underwhelmed by my experience. To drink, I chose the $14 basil strawberry (?) mule. I was surprised when the bartender started pouring a pink drink on tap. Turns out the mule was pre-mixed and on tap. That's fine, but for a $14 drink, I was expecting something a little more exciting than a pre-mixed drink poured over (a lot of) ice. Even a little garnish would go a long way. Also, the drink didn't seem very strong, so I likely wouldn't go with it again at that price point. I was stoked to see that they had some vegetarian offering! I went with the pistou portabella sandwhich. The concept was awesome, but the execution needed some tweaks. The portabella was barely cooked and didn't seem to be seasoned at all. Even a little marenade would probably help them a long in terms of flavor. Also, the mozerrella on my sandwhich was melted at one point, but came out completely cold. I would also suggest giving a little more pistou. That was definitely the star of that sandwich. Since the sandwich came with fries, I'm feeling really great about the value for money for that item. I believe it was around $14 and I would have had leftovers (if I hadn't been running to a concert right after). Sidenote- beware that parking situation is lackluster and that all we were able to find was a pricey paid lot. Overall, this spot is a solid option if you want somewhere that does it all- food, drinks, coffee, chill ambiance. However, tweaks are needed to improve the experience.

The best chicken Caesar wrap I have ever had. It was perfectly dressed and I loved the fried chicken inside. Great quality, fast to get your food, and a casual environment. Order your food at the counter and they text you when it's ready. Can eat outside or inside!

I recently attended a concert in Charlotte and met friends at Sycamore before hand for a drink and a bite to eat. The space is super nice with a variety of their beer on tap. There is a small restaurant in the same space, you order your drinks and food separately. I ordered the honeysuckle ale and it was so crisp and refreshing. I ordered food at the restaurant in the same space. I ordered the Sycamore burger and it had the most delicious bacon onion jam on it. I love onions but they don't love me back. As tasty as it was they did not skimp on it like most places. I did have to scoop some off but man alive it was good. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious. The staff were super super friendly, especially the bartender I encountered. I will definitely go back next time I'm in Charlotte..

I went hers because I just got a new puppy and wanted to take her somewhere dog friendly. The weather was chilly and we sat on the downstairs patio. It was equipped with tower heaters and quite comfortable! I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap and a spritzer. The wrap was just okay I would have preferred more buffalo sauce to blue cheese crumbles . The spritzer has way too much aperol in it . I didn't finish it . Over all service was good . I'll be back to try other items .

I loved Sycamore! It's absolutely beautiful here and I love that it's two floors with an upstairs bar. My friend and I came on a Wednesday evening and it was pretty busy, but the line moved quickly. I saw that yoga was being hosted and it looked so fun! Would love to check that out sometime. We were able to easily find street parking which I'm sure that isn't always the case, but it's possible! I loved my Southern Girl ale. It was crisp and full bodied, but also light. I look forward to coming back here soon!

Sycamore was the #1 recommended place to check out when I visited Charlotte and it lived up to the hype! Their space is huge and inviting. I love their beer selection as well as other seasonal drinks. Can't wait to return

I've been here a couple times with my mom when visiting my brother. We know this place can get jam packed when we've passed by it in the city, so it's nice to come when no one is here. It's pretty all over, clean, and a chill spot to come to. We enjoyed the second floor; literally it was just us which was a plus! I tried an IPA and relaxed with my family here.

The beer at sycamore has had a good glow up. I've been coming back and regularly getting the Honeysuckle Summer Ale, which is delightfully floral. My party had mixed reviews about the pizza. In all consensus, the dough has a nice crisp, but lacks a developed yeast flavor, and could do with more salt. I however LOVED the short rib and mushroom pizza topping. I did have it made with vegan cheese, it would be my favorite pizza in CLT if it had more flavor with the dough. Another note, I never got my text message that my pizza was done. When I got my pizza, it was cold. These notes are all made with cold pizza as our reference.

Visiting the south end was recommended by 2 different people so I knew I wanted to check out the area and was really glad I stopped by sycamore brewing. Really nice selection of IPAs, great pizza, a fresh salad and wonderful service. I loved the option to eat outdoors. Definitely worth a visit!

Known as the largest brewery in Charlotte, this spot is located in the heart of South End. This large two level establishment offers outdoor and indoor seating. We enjoyed two craft beers while watching the games on the many tv screens. They also have other cocktails, beer, wine and food. A great place to socialize.

Sycamore just keeps getting better & better!! The new location is 10/10. It has such an amazing vibe and aesthetic to it. It has so much seating - like genuinely so much!! It has ample seats inside / outside, perfect for casual birthday parties, events & a cold one outside. (Also dog friendly which is a plus) This was my first time having the food and it was so easy, you just ordered off the QR code & food was grab & go and done in easily 15 minutes!! It was so yummy. Would recommend checking out this new location for either a cold one or a meal

Always a great time at Sycamore! Went on a cold Sunday and the heater was lit by a worker. It did not take too long to feel warm. I tried the holiday spritz and it was too bitter for me because of the aperol. The food was hot and fresh. Love the bleu cheese in the wrap.

I've come as a Charlotte newbie, then became the one showing the place off to visitors, and in between I'll show up for a trivia night here and there. Staff here is my personal favorite- everyone is kind but not pushy or bothersome. They know the bar and the food menu.. I have asked what to order and fully gone along with their suggestions. Zero regrets. This is also a wonderful place to take friends or family visiting from out of town. My parents moved down here with me; just across the border in SC, but absolutely loved it here when I took them. Now they are part that too with a bunch of apps, wings, burgers, etc. I got my usual flight (theirs has 5 beers...wooohooo!) which consisted of a vanilla coffee blonde, a Mexican Lager, a Helles, an IPA and a hazy pale ale. All of them were really good with the hazy pale ale and the vanilla coffee blonde being my favorites. Cool art of the Wooden Robot could be found throughout the brewery. My only regret is that I didn't buy a t-shirt.

That was just half a day in, so naturally, I started feeling like Charlotte had passed me a note, "I like you, stay longer." The one thing I failed to respect was the Carolina summer sun. I desperately needed a hat. Sure, I could have gone to Target or the bike shop I passed earlier, but any civilized man knows the best place to buy a cap is a brewery. Untappd pointed me toward one of the most popular breweries in a city full of popular breweries: Burial Beer Co. Since I was driving, I kept things responsible and sampled taster-sized pours, spacing them out with non-alcoholic mocktails and 0.0 beer like a grown man who still wanted to remember where he parked. Burial also offers cocktails, ICEEs, low-ABV session beers, THC beverages, wine, and self-serve water. The menu helps you navigate the offerings with color-coded sections: cocktails in blue, light-bodied beers in neon green, dark ales in orange, and high-ABV options in pink. Food isn't available onsite, but delivery gets the green light. I grabbed a corner seat at the bar, not because I wanted to brood, but because the post-brunch crowd had arrived in full force with babies, buddies, and dogs. Every bartender and guest I spoke with treated me like I had wandered into a neighborhood clubhouse instead of a brewery. They gave recommendations, bought me a drink, and one even helped me pick out a hat. Southern hospitality is alive and well at Burial Beer Co., a place that turned a shopping trip into a welcome party, proving that Charlotte knows how to beat the heat with good pours, good people, and better merch.

Updated Review (2026):…read more We've been coming to Gilde since they opened their doors in 2022. When we first began coming, they served delicious authentic German food. Unfortunately, they've changed their menu a dozen times and have removed our favorites from the menu (the original braised pork (they changed it over time, but the original was amazing) and the goulash) :( They have slowly evolved their menu into bar food to cater to the party-going crowd as their street has become more trafficked -- which now means a greater likelihood of having to succumb to the paid parking garage. We're big fans of their beers and did a brewery tour & tasting when Gilde was at its peak. Their beers are the reason I at least give them 2 stars: the pale wheat and red rooster are especially delicious. We even spent our NYE 2025 there and did the stein-holding competition. We've tried new things on the menu, desperate to give them more tries... but we keep ending up disappointed. For example, the steak sandwich is not a steak sandwich, but rather a kebab. We've driven the 40 min drive to go there and show up and then they are closed for a private event (with no notice on their social media). We have also brought friends there and have waited an hour for a server. Last Mother's Day, we showed up for dinner at 7:45 p.m (sure, that's a tad late.. but we left our home at 7) and were told the kitchen was already closed. This Mother's Day, we waited 45 minutes, with no updates or warnings, to be seen by a server. When we tried to place our order, we were told that we couldn't yet place our food order and that we had to order drinks separately because their kitchen was slammed. I'm no expert, but why not still accept customer's orders and speed up the kitchen by bulk-cooking? Can't multiple brats be made at once? Or larger portions of sauerkraut or bacon? Also, only a third of the tables were taken.. so that sounds like some poor kitchen capacity. When we were finally served our food (still took awhile even after putting in the food order), they had served my husbands meal 10 min before mine and then I was served mine.. and it turns out they still had forgotten about our daughter's French toast and had to START it. The disorganization or perhaps just lack of effort/care has gotten ridiculous. So disappointed at the way our favorite restaurant went downhill!

HUGE thank you to Legion…read more Our company, Opkalla, held its big team Midyear dinner at Legion last night (which I'm responsible for planning), and I was absolutely blown away by the entire experience planning with Gabby, through the event itself for about 50 people. Before I even get into the event itself though, none of it would've been possible without Gabby being such an absolute joy to work with throughout all of the planning leading up to it. During the planning phase she made my life about 100 times easier instead of harder, which is saying something because that's definitely not always the case with venues and I've experienced the other side of that coin elsewhere! From the second we arrived, we were treated with genuine attention and enthusiasm (not to mention, HUSTLE!) I was running around so much all day that I can't believe I'm blanking on a couple of the girls' names now...I remember Kayla's name specifically for some reason...but EVERY single server, bartender, etc working our event was absolutely AMAZING. (As an aside, I worked in hospitality for years, so I know firsthand how much goes into pulling off a private event like ours. Legion's team last night made the entire evening seem effortless.) Drinks were flowing and refilled so quickly, everyone was constantly checking in with me to see if we needed anything, the food was fantastic, and while I didn't catch his name in the middle of all the celebrating, the steak carver you assigned to our event was such a great guy too and SO wonderful with our team. I genuinely can't find the right -- or enough -- words to explain how impressed I was with the entire experience, from the planning process all the way through the end of the night. This was probably the first large team event I've been responsible for, whether at Opkalla or any previous company, where I actually got to relax at times during the event and almost felt like a guest instead of just the planner!! You have no idea how refreshing that was. (Not that I would've minded running around putting out fires if I had to; that occasionally just comes with the territory and was definitely the case earlier that day prior to Legion!) Legion handled everything so seamlessly that I barely had to do any "work" during the event beyond enjoying the evening and checking in with our team. It was obvious everyone had everything they needed, and even more obvious that everyone was having an absolute blast. Thank you again for making this such an incredible experience. It was truly one of the smoothest, most enjoyable events I've ever been a part of, and that's a huge credit to Legion's events team and serving/bartending staff. I can't wait to work with them again for future events, and to recommend them to others I know who are often in need of event venues! THANK YOU AGAIN, GABBY AND LEGION!
