Service was so bad I had to come leave a review. The server forgot to put in like half of the food we ordered. When the final person in our party arrived and placed his order, his food came out immediately after we'd already been waiting 30 min for the first round of food. When we asked about it, he brushed us off... then came back 10 min later with 5 pieces of oysters, even though we ordered the 12 pieces. He denied that and said we only ordered the 6 pieces (so the plate was missing an oyster regardless). I asked about the rest of the food we ordered and then he claimed we never placed the order. By that time the kitchen had closed so we just got our check and left hungry. Server also never came and gave tables a heads up that the kitchen was closing. Any front of house person with common sense would recognize that no three top would only order 6 oysters to split between three people... Its not a big deal when you forget to put in parts of the order but to deny that you messed up and pretend we didnt order as much as we did is crazy. Receipt had the wrong items too! We all live and work in oakland and this experience was bad enough that we'll be telling everyone we know in the area not to go lol. it was almost comedic how terrible that experience was. read more

Great food and ambiance! Came here with a few friends for a weeknight dinner and tried a bunch of the small plates - shrimp tostada, fried yucca, chicken sandwich. Everything was delicious! I plan to come back and try more of the items on the menu. Note I feel like this is the type of place to come to if you want little bites and a vibe, not if you're super hungry. Sandwich was sizable but everything else was fairly small in portion. read more

This place is a GREAT! Everyone should experience this business. The food is soooooo delicious.

Birria Fries are delicious, the cocktails are crafted beautifully, and the service is to notch. Came in on a Tuesday night during a little vendors market in their back room, so this place was poppin'! We waited for 10ish minutes to sit, which was quick given how packed it was. There was only one server for the entire evening, but he absolutely crushed it. Can't wait to return and try their happy hour next! read more

Low Bar - Birria Fries! - Cocktail Bars Near Me - Oakland, California

Walked in on a Sunday a few minutes before 3pm and was seated in the back room. Kitchen is closed from 3-3:30pm switch from brunch to happy hour. Our server let us put in an order of apps before the kitchen closed. Food: Fries - these were good, a little on the thicker side, fried crisp and served with ketchup and a chamoy mayo that was on the sweeter side which was an interesting twist Chips and Guac - pretty good, guac was well seasoned, topped with pepitas and furikake, good balance of chip to dip, definitely a tasty snack to share Service was okay. Seemed like service is shared across the board so we placed our order with one server and another would check in to see if we placed an order. A little confusing but everything worked out. Overall an interesting experience coming in during the meal shift since the kitchen was closed. Snack/ apps were good but nothing super special. Would recommend coming in earlier or later to enjoy brunch or happy hour or plan to just grab a drink in this timeframe. read more

Low bar sets a high standard. Their customer service is off the charts, and the food rides high as well. Once we walked in, we were immediately greeted by one of the friendliest servers I have ever met. She was so happy and even seemed excited that we were there, even though the place was packed! The enthusiasm was definitely not motivated by a desperation for customers. When we asked to switch tables because being near the bar was loud for us, they accommodated us right away. The waiter that we had was very cordial, attuned and even deferential. Every time he approached the table, he stooped low, nearly kneeling to be level with us. I've only seen this a few times in all my myriad of dining experiences. I had the Carnitas Sandwich. The pork was well-marinated and tender. The slices of roasted yam were a creative touch both for the eyes and palate. But, honestly, I thought they were too thick and overpowered the taste of the pork. Perhaps the best part was the toasted ciabatta bun. It was spread with either butter or mayonnaise or both before toasting, and the char flavor was exquisite. And, of course, it was super soft. The french fries were absolutely amazing. They were a $4 add-on, but well worth it. The outside was very thin but super crunchy, and the potato inside was irresistibly fluffy. It was obvious they had double fried them. But they must've done other things in prepping or cooking them because they were leaps better than most of the fries I've had, even those in slow-food establishments. But again that high bar service! The bookend actually started with the cool bartender who was outside under the awning on break, but, once he found out we wanted to head inside, happily greeted us and opened the door for us anyway. This is got to be one of the top restaurants for customer service I've been to. Definitely Michelin star level. That night was during the bomb cyclone, so it was pouring hard outside. Yet the place was still full, some even waiting for tables. By the end of the night I knew why. read more

Hosted a party here and it was awesome! The service was top notch. The owner took the time to check-in to be sure everything was to our liking. The drink menu had something for everyone, and you could really taste the quality ingredients in both the food and drinks. My personal favorite was the Coquito, YUM! Will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend! read more

I go here every month with my friends. It's such a fun vibe! Helen is great. She's the best bartender ever!

We took an out of town guest here for dinner and drinks on a Tuesday night around 8:30. The place was packed! We were drawn to Low Bar because of its cheeky website prose, and we were not let down. The vibe while noisy, was fun and vibrant. The staff was very laid back and perfectly attentive. They all seem to work together to ensure every customer is lacking nothing. They even asked a couple to relocate to fit our party of 3 (which they kindly did, thanks!). The cocktails were clever and tasty. The food though, OMG. The chicken albondiga sandwich had crispy, delicious meatballs, on a soft roll smothered with a very good, spicy tomato sauce. You pretty much have to knife n fork it. Fantastic. The pupusa with brisket (ordered by both of my companions) was also phenomenal. Rich, beefy, cheesy. Stellar. We hung around long enough for the place to clear out and for a new wave start to trickle in, so we had to try the fried yucca. The server made it clear that they were not "fries". They were in fact lovely little domes of (mashed?) fried yucca. Crispy outside, creamy smooth inside, served with a tasty aioli. The chicken nuggets were real breast meat chunks battered with rice flour and perfectly fried. One of the servers suggested we order the spicy version which we did. Delicious and not TOO spicy. We will definitely be back. read more

What a lovely 15 minute walk to Low Bar from my friend's place! Met up with a few folks I hadn't seen in quite some time. It's so cute inside, and while there were outdoor patio tables, the day was a little too windy. We got seated immediately in a little round alcove right next to the bar. After scrolling through the QR code menu, we ordered a bunch of items: * Chips & Guacamole * Garlic Fries (and Regular Fries) * Quesabirria Tacos * A Burger * Corn & Sweet Potato Fritters * Churros Typical bar food. Fries were a little more done than I'd like. Fritters were the most unique thing I really enjoyed. The best part about Low Bar was the assortment of cocktails. I got a few Clever Girls and a Deadbeat Summer. I mean, I love anything that has jalapeño or grapefruit. The menu even lists the flavor profiles and how the cocktails are served. We ended our meal by sipping a Sanchito shot, which has reposado tequila and ancho reyes chile liqueur. YUM!!! Would definitely come here for happy hour again and enjoy all the cocktails. Not too thrilled about the food, but it wasn't terrible. Just not very memorable. I'd give it a second try. Service is friendly and proactive. Next time I'd love to hang out at the actual bar! read more

Serving cocktails and dinner in DT Oakland - perfect place to get food before you and your party head home. They even have an evening happy hour (that starts at 9:30pm) - can you imagine a place where a happy hour goes beyond 7?! Food is more casual BUt still delicious- adult chicken nuggets are solid and they're fries are restorative. Was gifted a cocktail by the bartender who recently went all out during Halloween with specialty whiskey cocktails. I'd come here again, and again, and again. read more

Came out for a quick stop while out with some friends who were visiting from out of town. The bar itself is super nice - lots of natural light and plenty of space. As a group we ordered some pickle back shots, a greyhound , the chips and guac, the aguachile, garlic fries and sweet potato fritters. Food/ drink wise everything came out well - the snacks we ordered were delicious and came out fairly quickly. My only gripe - one of the people in my group asked for a green tea shot which we were initially told they would make even though it wasn't on the menu but then ended up not going forward with it (even though they had the ingredients to make it) Also, I didn't get my card back after paying and had to walk back a little later to get it. Thankfully, the staff were kind enough to hold on to it for me so I could pick it up later Would recommend people to check it out - seems like a very nice happy hour spot and I'd be up for visiting again some time soon. 3/5 read more

My sister and I had high hopes for brunch at Low Bar. Unfortunately, there was nothing about it that was a positive stand out experience. The service was ok. The outdoor seating was ok. No wait for a table. Seems they had heaters available for some tables, we weren't near any. Breakfast sandwich was ok, standard. Comes with choice of fries or salad. The mimosas seemed heavy on the juice and light on the champagne; After three you'd think a non-regular drinker would feel something but she didn't. The mimosas are $9 each or 3 for $20. The most disappointing part of the experience was the fruit bowl. I asked for the homemade chamoy on the side which they accommodated. When the fruit bowl showed up, I couldn't help but ask where the rest of it was. How they get away with calling that a fruit BOWL and charging $8 for it is beyond me. They were also pretty stingy with the Tajin on the fruit... the specks on the bowl are the color of the bowl, not Tajin by the way. Overall, this restaurant was over priced and we left feeling under served. I'm still shocked by the fruit bowl.. read more

finally went to try low bar. the name and aesthetic is cute. i've wanted to come here just for drinks but since i was already out and we were hungry. we decided to get food too. big mistake. chips and guacamole were okay. easy bar food. the everything but the bagel seasoning on top reminded my friend of avocado toast . we also got the fries, which were the best thing tbh. i ordered the birria tacos and he for the rolled tacos. i knew immediately that the birria tacos would be underwhelming by how they looked. they didn't come folded up, seemed like there was too much filling. the tortilla/cheese crust was mushy and flavorless. the meat was a bit tough and under seasoned. the consommé was extremely watered down. the whole dish was such a disappointment. every element of the dish was lacking. the rolled tacos were also not seasoned enough. we didn't finish any of it. the drinks were a highlight though. my friend got the tell the bees and i got the NA piña con nada. both were tasty and had depth of flavor. service was a bit slow/non attentive as well. we needed more napkins since we used them all when we arrived because there was a full side of ketchup in the chair that my friend accidentally sat on. it took forever to have a server come check on us. i would definitely return for drinks and fries. maybe i'd try the corn fritters which i saw a baby inhaling. or perhaps the burger that was being featured. i don't have high hopes about the other food options though. read more

We stopped by for brunch and ordered the Brunch Torta -- the food was really good and definitely hit the spot. However, we were surprised when the check came and the price was higher than what was listed on the menu. When we asked about it, the waiter explained that "those were credit card prices." It would've been helpful to know about the upcharge ahead of time, especially since it wasn't mentioned anywhere we could see. Just something to be aware of if you plan on paying with a card. Great food, but clearer communication would make the experience even better. read more

I reaaaaaallllyyyy want to love Low Bar! but everytime there is just something missing. The inside is cool, I like the Mexico touches. The food has always been just OKAY. Even before this new Chisme popup took over it was nothing to write home about. I tried the pupusa and it didn't taste like one. Le faltaba queso and filling and everything else! One time I did eat the birria fries and that was sooooo good but they are no longer in the menu, bummer. The drinks are alright - everything is just ALRIGHT. It is a neighborhood bar so I am sure I will be back eventually, hoping it gets better! Also this is a me thing, but it does lowkey erk me when I am at a Mexican restaurant and no Mexicans are working... read more

This place never ceases to amaze me. It's January, which means I'm doing whole30 again and it can be a real challenge to eat out. As per usual, the staff here is so accommodating! I asked for the burger without bun or cheese and they immediately knew I was doing whole30 because the chef is doing it too. They made a burger and mocktail for me and it was delicious! Obviously I can't wait until I can enjoy some of their other menu items again but it's nice to know you can come out here and enjoy yummies while still staying disciplined with your diet. Low Bar is such a gem both as a neighborhood bar and destination. Welcoming staff that remembers your order, indoor and outdoor seating (always something fun playing on the screen at the bar), a photo booth, and of course delicious, unique cocktails and food. Low Bar was a cute little brunch/lunch place and we got to sit outside since it was a nice day. Ordered A Burger which included 2 smashed beef patties, American cheese, bacon, and pickles on a brioche bun. I love a good brioche bun so it really set the stage for the burger. Though there isn't much sauce, the burger itself was pretty juicy, especially for a smash burger. The bacon gave it some more flavor and texture which contrasted the softness of the bun. Overall not your traditional burger but a very good one. read more

I love brunch. And this spot has been on my list. Went with my family. Two kids and one wife. Saturday morning around 11am. I ordered the chilaquilies. Which was spot on. Chips were perfectly cooked. Not soggy. But not crispy either. Not overly spicy. Also had a bloodymary. Probably one of the best bloody marys. Ive had. It had a little sweetness to it which was a nice super. Perfect hangover meal. One of the kids ordered a "A Burger".. kid inhaled it. Said it was the best burger he's ever had (hes had a lot of burgers). Other kid went with breakfast tacos. He said the bacon was really good. Also said the salsa was amazing. Wife ordered polenta. And was amazed at the mushrooms and the egg. The egg comes from a Japanese hen which was so richly delicious. LAST!! The Churros! Do not leave this place without having the churros. The Best Churros I've ever had. They were so light and fluffy. They also had some Old school cartoons playing in the "family room". Nice ambience. Great music playlist too. Place was amazingly decorated. Great place. Definitely coming back. read more

Low Bar is located a short walk from my office and has become a place that sometimes friends/coworkers and I would get dinner/drinks at. The restaurant itself is actually bigger than it looks- there's a back room! Having a reservation is good if you plan on coming during peak time because it's always packed. Their happy hour is I believe 3-6 PM and contains discounts for drinks + food items. There's half a dozen oysters for $20. I am also a fan of their garlic fries. For the alcohol conscious, they also have NA cocktails! As for their alcoholic cocktails, I find them pretty pleasant and not too strong. Walking distance from 19th street BART / AC Transit bus line 51A and in a pretty popular block of restaurants. read more

I've gone to Low Bar twice now and really like the drinks and food here! Some of the things I've had: - Egg - the scotch egg is amazing and I've had it both times I've come here! Definitely a staple! - Oysters - I can't really say no to oysters! - Fries - got these the first time I came and my friend loved them, though I felt they were a bit soggy and not really worth it. - Corn & Sweet Potato Fritters - so good that I got this both times I came here! Such a simple thing, and yet so good! - Quesabirria tacos - didn't love this, maybe it's just not my thing! - Seafood dish - there was a seafood lobster dish on the menu one of the times I went and it was to die for! As far as drinks go, I've tried the Oaxacan Green Machine (yummy!), the Amor Prohibido (fantastic and likely my favorite), the Pineapple Express (so good!) and the Bees Knees (one of my favorite go tos!) My only gripe about this place is that even with social distancing and fewer people inside, it gets really loud! There were obviously a few things in terms of food I didn't love, but overall love the new addition to the Oakland bar/food scene and can't wait to come back! read more

Pretty good!! I love the space, the staff is lovely, and the menu has a great selection. The drinks are great, but I'd say the food could use a little bit of work overall. That being said, I think I'll return! We got the guac, fries, fritters, quesabirria tacos, grilled octopus, and rolled tacos. We loved everything overall! The guac wasn't worth the $$$ in my opinion and the furikake on it was a little odd (forgot to get a photo). The tacos were slightly above average but slightly overpriced for what you get. We really enjoyed the fries and octopus. The fritters were my FAVE!! I would recommend it to others with the disclaimer that the food can be a little hit or miss. However, considering how lovely and happy the staff are and that the menu overall is good, it's a great option to meet up with friends or for a date! read more

Had a pretty terrible experience here. Drinks were good but did not make up for the rude staff. We came in around 11ish and ordered before last call. However the staff was not super clear with us on when they closed until they turned on the lights, cut the music and told us to "pound" our drinks? 5 mins later they started taking unfinished drinks from our table. Whole time felt rushed and the staff wasn't kindly communicative on when it was time to leave. Wouldn't recommend or come back. read more

Chucha, a rat homie of mine died this week after chewing wiring in a car engine. The car didn't make it either and it was a sad day for me and the car owner. Feeling distressed and mournful, I went to Chucha's favorite bar as they were enamored by the most delicious scraps and cute atmosphere after a long day of wire-chewing. I got myself a Shisho Lovely cocktail, fries, and corn fritters. They did not disappoint. The Shisho Lovely had a nice punch of herb, was strong, and went down my lil rat esophagus smoothly. I felt as if I was drinking something healing like boiled bark but of course, much more light. The golden crisp fries were gorge-worthy as I doused them in the chamoy mayo which would also be great in a turkey sandwich. They weren't soggy and had structure like a good lil fry would have. The corn and sweet potato fritters had so much flavor and the bed of sauce balanced out with the sweet and savoriness of the scrumptuous balls. The texture was bouncy with a crusty exterior and soft interior. Make sure to douse the balls in lime for some acidity in that bite. Even with the pleasant chews, it didn't bring Chucha back but I knew they were vicariously chewing these bites with me. I just wish they loved food more than wires so they could eat these fresh scraps with me. But I know once I leave too, we shall share some fritters and shiso cocktails together. That's something we both can look forward to. For now - this glass is for you, Chucha. read more

The atmosphere here is trendy and lively with attentive staff and food that's not flashy but gets the job done. I met up with a small group of friends here for a Saturday brunch and started with the Mellow Deadbeat, a mocktail of grapefruit cordial, lime, and grapefruit soda. It was nice and refreshing, not too sweet as the title suggests. I ended up having 2-3 throughout our time here. For brunch I had the breakfast sando and added chorizo, which packed a punch of flavor. The sourdough held firm against the warmth of the eggs and chorizo and added a nice substance. I was initially skeptical of the side salad since it was only greens, but the light Italian-ish dressing was impressive and I ultimately didn't miss the other traditional fixings. Our group spent more than a couple hours catching up, but the staff was always attentive and never made us feel rushed to leave. We added on the churros since we'd taken up a table so long, and they are HIGHLY recommended. They are crunchy outside and soft inside, and the mezcal drizzle makes them even meltier. Definitely recommend this spot for an easygoing brunch with hospitable folks. read more

Loved the eclectic crowd, wide range of seating options and the food. All the food was spot on. The burger was a bit "juicy" in that moisture from the pickles and produce made it messier than it could have been but it tasted great. I opted for the salad (rather than adding $4 for fries) and it was a surprisingly good call. The spring mix lettuce with a nice light vinaigrette was tastier than I thought it would be. The chips and guac were good but the chips could use a bit of an upgrade. The guac more than made up for that. The churros for dessert were a highlight. Service wasn't lightening quick but not annoying either. Wish they had a few more beer taps but I was able to find a stellar Ghosttown IPA that was perfect. The place has a great vibe and we'll definitely be back to check out brunch and the full dinner menu. read more

Low bar made out low on my list. It's trendy Americanized Mexican food and drink spot. It had a hipster vibe and there's outside seating. We ordered: 1. Soft shell crab tacos- I didn't get that crabby flavor you want when eating crab. The soft shell crab was breaded and deep fried. There was a lot of over powering green salsa with a thick soft homemade tortilla. 2. Potato tacos which were good but didn't drive me crazy. They had yummy toppings like sour cream and pickled red onions. 3. Quesabirria tacos had way too much meat on them. For that reason you couldn't enjoy the toppings like onion and cheese, which what makes a taco a taco. My drink the Pineapple Express was forgotten no foul game on the waitress but I wish it was forgotten because it was essentially overly sweet pineapple juice with said chili rim that actually tasted of sugar and not chili. read more
