Long, unnecessary and stressful emails, which surprised me and made me and even other doulas I've spoken to think "how is she a doula in the first place?" No new mother should have to deal with this. People hire doulas for a smoother time post birth. Jessica comes in and does the exact opposite with her insecurities. I found her to be insecure per her emails, which is why she kept pushing to cook for us from her commercial kitchen a lot. She brought a lot of negativity with her.

Her work was immensely appreciated, as she really helped ease the adjustment to having two little ones (especially two who are relatively close in age). Her skill set is both broad and unique, which makes her an especially great asset to a family with a new baby. Not only is she amazing with babies, mommies, daddies and older children, she's also great with food---a professionally trained chef! Jess creatively and skillfully prepared meals for us, making sure our bellies were full with delicious and healthful food--and for my and baby's benefit, she chose ingredients that were lactogenic (helped with milk production) and helped with post partum healing. Her skills didn't stop there. She soothed and entertained my 18 month old on more than a few occasions, helping me to get some much needed breaks. She arrived on time and left us with a clean kitchen and a full fridge. Having healthy food readily on hand is such an important thing for families with a newborn--knowing I didn't need to cook or rush to the grocery store, definitely reduced my stress level. I also knew if I needed help with babycare or questions about first baths, etc. she was there to offer suggestions and support. All in all, we had a fantastic experience with Jessica and would readily and happily recommend her to any family in need of post partum support in the Seattle area.

Her coaching helped me manage pain and stay focused. Her experience allowed me to try various labor positions that I believe aided to a more efficient birth. Not only did she support me, but she was also an incredible resource for my husband. She provided him with the confidence and guidance to be a present and helpful partner. I was so pleased with the care I received. When it came time for delivery she was super responsive and knew exactly when to come and be with my husband and I at my home. We ended up delivering at the hospital because of meconium and Andrea handled the transfer so quickly and smoothly! My husband and I were both very scared and she was very reassuring and calming. She and her team made a chaotic transfer seem like a walk in the park. Once we got to the hospital, she didn't leave my side until hours after my birth. My husband and I were so thankful for her support and guidance. Thanks to her, Felicia, and Sadie, I was able to labor at home basically right up until I delivered my son. She knows her stuff when it comes to payroll, employment law, and having a great employment relationship from the start. She is thorough about understanding your family and needs so that she can make a match that is a good fit. Her vetting process for nannies is also very thorough. She takes very seriously who she will put your child's care in the hands of. We hired our first and only nanny from her placement 2.5 years ago and our entire family's lives are better for it. Our nanny is absolutely amazing, she keep our household stable and the kids safe and nurtured. We adore her and she's become a critical member of our growing family now too. I have no doubt that had I gone it alone, I'd have had turnover a few times over by now (which is time consuming, stressful, and expensive). As a parent, I love that she advocates for nannies. Caregivers have long been undervalued and overworked. I've never felt that her advocacy for nannies was to my detriment. Having an amazing nanny is what I hired Kyla to help me with and she delivered beyond my expectations.

She remained alert, supportive, and calm from 1am until 10pm. I ended up having to be induced at 42 weeks and was pretty fearful of the process/struggled with the fact I couldn't labor at home before going into the hospital. Sean helped me overcome all of my fears surrounding the induction process and made me feel excited and confident in the plan to be induced by explaining what the labor may look like as well as answering all my questions. She was by my side from the very start of contractions until a few hours after our daughter was born. Having Sean by my side not only as my primary support person, but also to communicate with nurses and midwife so I could focus solely on birthing my daughter, was amazing. She helped me feel confident when labor seemed impossible to continue, giving me the courage and support to carry out my goal to have an epidural free L&D. There were times towards the end that I remember saying I couldn't do it anymore, crying in pain and fear -- she was right beside me to encourage, give me strength emotionally and empower me to keep going. Honestly, my husband and I both agree that it wouldn't have been such a beautiful and incredible birth experience without Sean by our side. She went above and beyond anything we could have imagined, her communication with hospital staff was awesome, her knowledge, teamwork with birthing partner (my husband) and love/support for both momma and baby was amazing. I hired Sean Hoke from Let It Be Birth to attend my son's birth in December. She was excellent and a needed asset to assist me during his birth. She kept me on track with breathing exercises during labor and a calming force when I thought my body was being ripped apart by contractions. I ended up needing a c-section but I was still very glad to have Sean with me during this. It was super helpful because my husband was able to concentrate on our son in the immediate moments after he came out because I had Sean at my side keeping me calm and giving me the play by play of what was happening. I would hire her again in a heartbeat if we ever have a second child.

Once we met Rachel it was immediately clear we were a match, it felt like she had been in our lives forever. Rachel's extensive knowledge and thorough guidance ensured that we were well-informed about our choices at each phase of the birthing process, which brought us immense comfort and confidence. We had planned for an out-of-hospital birth but at the end of the pregnancy had to urgently schedule a C-section and Rachel was by our side the entire time, helping us navigate every decision with clarity and care. She prepared us for exactly what we could expect, slowed us down when fear was starting to take over, advocated for me in the hospital (immediate skin-to-skin with baby, supporting my husband as the nurses cared for baby, latching as quickly as possible, etc.), and ensured that either she or my husband held my hand the entire time. Beyond just her knowledge, she provided a safe space where we could express our fears openly and encouraged acknowledging all the emotions that come with becoming new parents. She did a beautiful job honoring my grief, grief in becoming a mom and the change of identity, grief in having to change our birth plan late in the pregnancy, and grief that I wouldn't have my mom with me.
