This was a nice welcome center with two lovely employees. They had lots of information, pamphlets…read moreand even a little cutout where you could take a photo. Restrooms are outside. They had a giant butterfly and giant owl on display but when I asked about the owl, it was not really related to the area or any activities that staff could communicate. They basically just said that it looks nice and the lady who made the large butterfly made that also, so they put it up. I thought that was a little strange as North Carolina has barred owls but not the specific species that the giant decoration is. It does make for a nice piece to look at though. They did have printed information for the activity that I was specifically looking for and everything was well organized. This location is definitely worth a stop.

Ladies the bathroom door is broken, so beware and do not let it shut all the way or you'll be stuck. That was a pleasant surprise, thank goodness I have my husband with me to help. There are traveling notes and such, but if you want maps, etc ask the security worker. Bathrooms were really clean and they had an interesting 'soap & sanitizer' combination for the soap. And the blow dryers only blew cold air. So enjoy that little rude awakening. Overall not a bad place to pull off into, it just needs more attention in certain areas and I felt like it deserved four just for the cleanest bathrooms I've seen on this road.

Definitely get out and walk around, there's a cute little man-made creek in front of the vending machine area and the scenery is green, wooded, and mountainous. I hope to find this rest stop again on our next adventure because you don't always find the greatest rest stops along the way.
