I'm writing this review for the deep tissue massage I got this weekend. First off, they were nice and were kind enough to accommodate on a Saturday late afternoon without an appointment. I moved from Forest Hills a couple of years ago to Astoria and since then I hadn't gotten a massage so I figured I'd give this place a try. The place was very clean and quiet. The massage I got was not good at all. It felt as though my body was being scrubbed down instead of properly rubbed. I have never experienced anything like that in all the years I've gotten deep tissue massages. My "masseuse" was very nice, she just didn't know how to massage. read more

Came for a gel manicure on a friend's recommendation but it didn't turn out great. Three nails had air bubbles, the polish wasn't filled to the edges of all my nails/cuticles and it appears uneven in coverage on some nails. I understand I may have weird shaped nails or something but other places haven't had a problem. For $32 I expected a better job and will not be returning here. There are enough nail places in Astoria that are a better deal They give a complimentary minute long shoulder massage that was nice. I'm guessing it's to try and get you to pay for a session. This is mainly a Public Service Announcement, or more like ....a polite request of all customers who are coming to this spa during the whole COVID mess.... If you can afford the luxury of having someone do your nails, give you a pedicure, a massage, etc., then should also be able to afford to tip them Well... VERY Well, Particularly during this time. These women work very hard. The owners have created a wonderful, relaxing, clean space for us Astorians to enjoy. The spa was closed for at least three months. Now that the spa has reopened, these workers can no longer collect unemployment, YET the spa also now can only allow in HALF the usual number of customers. So their overall revenue has been cut in HALF, meaning their SALARIES and their TIPS. The other day I observed and overheard two different customers as they were paying for their services. The worker told the first woman the price, and... I can't remember the exact math, but I remember thinking 'is that all the woman is giving her for a tip??!' Then I overheard a man who'd just gotten a massage it seems. The woman said to him 'that will be $50...' He handed her some money (I'm assuming perhaps three 20-dollar bills?) and he said 'just give me $5 back....' (which would mean the woman got a $5 or 10% tip, for a service that cost $50?) ....now maybe I'm wrong. I couldn't see how much money either of these people actually handed to the workers. But...it wouldn't totally surprise me either, if what I suspected were the dollar amounts handed over to the workers, were in fact the case. Far too many people don't value such workers enough, and the work they do. I mean...giving people pedicures? At least I have nice feet ... ;--) ...but let's face it....there's lots of other folks out there with some less than stellar feet. These women are hunched over all day, working tirelessly. Not to mention when they give massages...that is extremely physical work. Lovely Spa is always nicely decorated, the owners and workers friendly, and the space is immaculately clean. Always. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful place that I can walk to. It truly feels like a respite for me, and Lovely Spa has so often helped me during times of stress or depression. And I bet many others who come here, feel the same way. Show your thanks to these ladies, will ya? Wouldn't you hate to learn that this place had to close, because they were struggling too much after the lockdown? And also keep in mind that another lockdown could be coming in the Fall. We must do our parts to support those local businesses, and their workers, that we love. read more

I've been a loyal customer since they opened years ago, but regretfully can no longer support this business due to a couple of recent incidents. The first was a couple of months ago after treating my mom to a mani pedi, after her nails were done, she slipped off the very slippery pleather stools (no backs, no armrests, just a slippery disk of pleather) in the drying area. I was shocked that the only one person who bothered to help my 70-year mother off of the floor was Angela. The other women working there barely glanced in her direction much less asked if she was okay. I let that go, even though I have seen them bow and scrape after less melanin-ated customers. A few weeks ago I scheduled an appt. for mani pedi with Elaine to either be treated by her or Ruby (I specifically requested either of them). I told her I would be there between 3:45 and 4. She said she would make an appt. for 3:45 and I told her that was fine but I would be there closer to 4. I arrived at 3:52. I was "greeted" by Ruby telling me I was late for my 3:30 appt. and I would have to wait. I told her I made the appt. with Elaine for 3:45, who barely acknowledged she spoke to me and they told me Ruby would take me after finishing someone else's pedi. I waited and after 25 minutes, saw Ruby proceed to start the mani of the person she was going to hand off to work on me. I asked Elaine when it would be my turn and she told me a third person who I had never worked with would be finishing soon and could take me, not at all what I requested, I left and wasting almost a half an hour of my time, disgusted with the little regard they had for me as a longtime customer, no apology for the wait, and I sadly will not be returning or referring them to anyone else after being treated this way. read more

Visited Lovely Spa a month ago. They are taking many Covid precautions such as booking your service in advance and adding plastic barriers between the customer and the technician which is great. Clients were seated far apart from each other though I was next to the drying station so a little close to other customers. Everyone was super friendly and meticulous. I definitely felt comfortable visiting this salon during Covid. My only qualm was they didn't have time for the standard shoulder rub at the end. Otherwise, perfect service! I waited 30 minutes for a confirmed appointment. The polish was uneven and pooled in my cuticles. The gel chipped in 3 days. Also, she cut my cuticle bed all the way to bleeding, twice. I've been going to Lovely Spa for massages for several years and they always take amazing care of me, and my whole family. My little daughter has even come with her friend and shared a chair and they were so beautifully take care of. I do either half hour or 90 minute massage when I go, and the quality is out of this world. My wife and I often go to spa vacations and get top-of-the-line massage therapists, and we always walk away thinking, "it was goooood, but it wasn't Lovely Spa good." When we go away to these spa vacations, the massages are $250-$300 and when I go to Lovely Spa during the day, it's always less than $100. I've always tipped heavily but now? I tip them ridiculously. With the year they've had, the hardship that Asian people are facing right now, and the really wonderful service, I would suggest that if you are get good service, you tip as if they were charging what they should be charging. read more

Got a gel manicure and pedicure. Made the appt via Yelp which was really convenient. The place was busy through the entire time I was there - mid-afternoon on a Friday. I got there about 10 minutes early for my appt and sat in a pedicure chair for about 20 minutes. I wasn't in a mad rush, so I tried not to let it annoy me. There were no frills about the pedicure or the gel manicure. No sassy lotions to pick from, no fun, free additions to set themselves apart...but I did appreciate that they didn't assume I wanted some $70 add-on, as I've had happen before @ other spas...and they didn't push too hard on me the add-on's to make more money. Gel manicure lasted almost a week. Meh. Service was friendly. Prices were OK. I'd return, but I'll probably try a few other local spots before coming back. I made an appointment for 10:30 am on a Saturday for a gel manicure and pedicure. I was seen right away and noticed that the salon was clean and friendly. My nail technician took a lot of time on the pedicure which was lovely and my gel manicure was pretty straightforward. My only gripe is that they charge extra for using card and the pedicure is not the cheapest one I've ever had ($20) and gel was $30. I asked how much at the end and my technician said $50 then rang up $54 on my card. Such is NYC living I suppose and I should know better because a lot of salons do the same. I just wanted to write a review about the manicurist that I was paired with the last time I went there on a Thursday. I am not sure of her name but she is a tall, thin woman with black hair. She had a big attitude and kept looking at me and giving me looks of annoyance. She does not seem happy to be there and makes her customers feel very uncomfortable. When I was drying my nails, she came to "massage" me and dug her fingers so hard into my lower head and neck that I had pain for 2 days after. I've gotten my eyebrows waxed here before and it was fine, but this afternoons experience was pretty terrible. I was nicked right above my eyelid and I also have a cut on the other side from plucking too hard on the skin. Usually the redness and inflammation goes down within an hour or 2, but I'm still red and very sore right now. I definitely will not be returning for any type of waxing. read more

I walked in pretty late on a Wednesday after work ( I did call to confirm that it was ok for me to come in) and I was desperate to get manicure and pedicure before leaving for a vacation next day. I got a French gel manicure and regular pedicure. Pedicure was just ok (nail polish wasn't done very well) but manicure was terrible. When I walked out of the place and looked at my nails I saw that the white part of French manicure wasn't covering the whole nail leaving the corner without polish. Nails got ruined pretty quickly.
