The best way to describe this restaurant is good food and good views.... Served with northern charm. We were welcome with live music in the bar area, which sounded really good. However, we self seated ourselves on one of the three patios. Wood note that as of current, the patio closest to the water is self service - i.e. you order carry out and bring it to your seating. We opted to closer, but the views aren't bad anywhere outside. Really expansive menu that seems to have something for everybody. We both opted for local fish and neither disappointed The walleye fillet was absolutely massive and tender. And the fries were crispy to perfection. Although we were bummed that they were out of bluegill, the perch exceeded expectations. We enjoyed our delicious meal watching the sunset from the patio and wouldn't have wanted it any other way. read more

Great spot for our snowmobiling group to stop for some food and drinks. When we got there, it was super busy with lots of other snowmobile groups. Once we got inside, we had a little wait. Not bad at all since we had a party of 5. We started off with drinks. Loved the tequila tart (substitute soda water instead of sprite) which was made with tequila, grapefruit juice, lime, and soda water. For lunch, we ordered the steak salad, salmon entree (daily special), perch + chips, and a Greek salad with chicken. I ordered the steak salad which was great! Loved the red onions and blue cheese. Looking for a real north woods experience?! Trout river blended with a lawnscape overlooked on a deck terrace of this bucolic location set in the northern woods of Michigan in the crossroad town of Lovell. A complete menu geared to any appetite and tastefully prepared. I had the fish fry which was wonderful and plentiful. The staff were upbeat, efficient and attuned to the guest at all times. We had a chance to meet the fairly recent owners and extended our appreciation for the vast improvements in the outdoor seating and menu changes that were welcome to my wife! If you are in the Lovell area, mark this as a stop. We have been seasonal guests for many years, but the " new" Lovell Riverside is an even better spot to recharge in an awesome spot! read more

I'm a wounded combat veteran and I was treated with total disrespect by the owner Jenn. I've spent lots of money dining at her establishment and brought many friends there. She confronted me last Thursday night saying "she's heard I'm trouble". I was shocked and left. I will never return to her business and I will tell all my friends and family the same. read more

Went in for lunch on Thursday and ordered wings. They were so dry they were inedible. They must have been microwaved left overs from Wednesday night. Leftover food should be donated or made into something like soup, not microwaved and served as fresh. Most likely won't be back, too many great restaurants in Lewiston. read more

We stopped in on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. Ate outside on the back patio overlooking the river. It was a very nice peaceful place to enjoy the late September day. There were 4 of us - two people shared the kitchen sink pizza and loved it. Another ordered the bluegill and I ordered the perch. We both enjoyed our dinners as well. We go out for fish fry every Friday and frequent a number of places and we will for sure be adding this place to our schedule. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. read more

The new owners are serving great food! My walleye lunch and my husband's bluegill plate were incredible! The portions were generous with my two large walleye fillets, and my husband's 7 bluegills with seasoned fries. All was cooked to perfection! The home style cole slaw is a bit mayonnaise heavy, but still delicious! Sitting on the patio right next to the gorgeous North Branch of the AuSable River, with our little dog, sipping beer, enjoying delicious food and delightful service...it doesn't get better than this! read more

Stayed for a week in Grayling, trying to remove ourselves from society for a break from people, the internet, television and well.. everything. We cooked our own meals for the first 5 days, but towards the end of the week we got a little stir crazy. Our friends, who own the cabin we stayed in... left us a list of restaurants to check out if we got hungry. We randomly picked Lovells Riverside Tavern. We rolled in around 7pm, just as the sun started moving down through the trees. When we arrived, it was clear we were the first customers of the evening. The owner greeted us with a "welcome! boy it's beautiful out tonight! sit anywhere you like!" We headed out back, to the unbelievable patio. It's huge, clean & new... with an incredible view of the creek. There are huge trees, a well groomed lawn and a nice breeze. The food is very typical northern Michigan fried fair, but I really enjoyed my smelt. (it's my new favorite fish) The waitress was very friendly and accommodating. One thing I've noticed about northern Michigan, is that everyone is nice. It's notable. For being a rural, gun toting part of the country... everyone is happy. Anyways... vibe is very welcoming. Food is not bad. And as we experienced, you can strike up a conversation with locals / strangers without fear. I happily recommended the fried pickles to the table next to us who gladly ordered them after I said they were ace. I wish I had a million dollars so I could move to grayling. An utterly classic up-North pub. Very laid back most of the time, though the LRT can get packed on weekends, especially near holidays or openings of hunting/fishing seasons. Pine paneled walls, game heads, and fishing-related photos complete the atmosphere. And when it's nice you can sit on the deck and watch the river go by. Food has been at least acceptable. The burger isn't the best around, but it will hit the spot after a long day on the river, or out on the trail. The turkey Rueben is my go-to, and their ham and cheese is great too-sub size and packed with the namesake ingredients. The only real letdown I've had here is the Friday fish fry. The fish came a little cool and the breading was soggy, though the fries were fine (as they've always been when I got them as a side). All I can really fault the place for is the beer selection. If you want a craft beer, the closest you're going to come is Sam Adams. LRT makes a great bloody mary though--we thought the spicy version was best. There's a tight knit group of local regulars at the LRT, but they're generally friendly. A trip to the Grayling area never feels quite complete without a stop here. read more

Small town diner with big taste! We have stopped here many times now and everything is very good! We enjoy the fish dinners, crispy chicken wings, terrific pizza, and love the corned beef chili here. Driving through Lovells and we decided to stop at the Riverside Bar for dinner. We decided to eat out back overlooking the beautiful river. Very nice scenery! I ordered a burger and fries. The waitress was less than warm and friendly... almost confused. The burger was just ok. I'm 99.9% sure it was a frozen Patty. Fries just ok. Very disappointed to not get a fresh burger and crisp potato tasting fries. It's basically the only bar and grill in the area. Apparently nobody takes pride in fresh simple food anymore. In a pinch the place will work but I would grab a sixer and grill fresh burgers at home. HINT TO OWNER: Make fresh good food with a warm smile and people will come. read more
