The prime rib was pretty good, but $35 for a 16oz piece was very expensive imo. The salad and rolls were very good. On a scale of one to Texas Roadhouse. The rolls were a solid 8.5 Salad was very fresh. Lots of people told us that the pizza was very good, I disagree it's frozen party store variety pizza. I'd give it a 3/10. Old time up north country feeling. atmosphere is exactly what you would expect for up north Michigan a family owned business that has been passed down. The food is amazing and taste exactly the same as I remember it back in the early 80s when they first opened it.. I wouldn't change a thing about the place. I have personally avoided this place since the pandemic, when, upon entering to pick up a take out order, I saw no efforts to comply with health department directives by any employee. No one wearing a mask, no effort to separate tables, etc. this place known for its southwest burritos, but my personal favorite is their cheesy French dip made with prime rib from the night before. read more

Not a bad place for a drink I've been here a few times in the past. However, I have not been impressed by the food every time. It reminds me of pretty much anything you would get frozen at a grocery store and heat up in your oven which is the reason for my rating. So mixed results on the food, wet burrito was good, chicken fingers and fish was good. I had the prime rib and the salad that come out first had a long hair in it...not mine! Waitress took it away and offered cole slaw and nothing off the bill or anything additional. The prime rib was overcooked and the baked potato was the smallest thing I have ever seem. I'm totally fed-up w/the service they provide there paying customers. I've been going to Fred. Inn for years for there wet burrito's & always had so-so service. Most of the time I've called in my order for pick-up & still had to wait, but not bad. The last two times I've been there (july & Aug.) for call-in & carry-out REALLY takes the cake though. My july order was called-in & they said 15-20 min. & it took me 30 min. to get there. I told them I was picking up my order & they said It was ready. Well, after standing around for an additional 15 min. & watching the bar tender make drinks & small talking w/customers @ the bar, I finally confronter her & she acted like I was disturbing her social time. Its like I was not there!!! My last encounter was this month (Aug.) & I called in my order as usual. They said it would be 20-25 min. due to a large order they had. Well it took me 40 min. to get there due to road construction. And guess what--SAME CRAPPY SERVICE!!! I told them I was there for my order & was told it was ready. After standing around for another 20 min. I got fed-up & had to confront them again. This time I had to put up w/the bar side packed w/families & kids running all over the place w/ NO one in the whole place wearing masks to protect each other. That includes the STAFF. I'm 73 yrs. old & have C.O.P.D. & take the COVID 19 seriously & wear a mask when ever in public. To say the least, I felt trapped & in a un-safe situation, all for a burrito. 3.5 stars The good ole Frederic Inn! Many a time I have begged my dad to take me here to get out of eating "camping food." Seldom did he give in. We came here to help the Northern Michigan economy but it didn't seem like it really needed our help since the place was packed. Smokey but bearable. I got the wet burrito to see if it was as glorious as I remembered (or if I was just happy to eat "non-camping food"). It is huge, and loaded with beans, meat and fresh veggies--yum. This restaurant is something from my childhood that I remember it being great. Recently, including today, the waitress is annoyed we came in. We drive there in ATV's for food and I wish we would have gone else where. I almost went to my cooler for beverages because it was not like I was ever going to get more than one. Almost everyone comes for the Frederic Inn's Wet Burritos. If you try it, ask for a side of the "turbo " salsa. It's hot but delicious! But in my opinion, the Frederic Inn's Kaid's House burger is the best in the area. Blows a Spike burger away as far as size, toppings, and price! The Frederic Inn is a local landmark and part of the up-north experience. (Would love to see different French fries though. Maybe wedge fries or sweet potato fries?) read more

Couldn't agree less with Tom T. The Frederic Inn is a little hidden gem. All the meals we've had have been great, but Mexican food is absolutely their specilaty. Try the wet burrito (I usually do the chicken) or the Mexican pizza...you won't be disappointed and will end up with two meals for the price of one. As an appetizer I recommend the potato skins with bacon...awesome! Great place, good service and not far off I75 if your in a hurry. read more

A small saloon in a small town off of I-75, The Frederic Inn surprises! It seems to be known for it's burritos, but I have fallen in love with the homemade chicken noodle soup. It is beyond delicious! Loaded with carrots and celery, the broth is to die for. Even the noodles are homemade! I have also had the cheese burgers here and they, too, are delish. Excellent burritos. The one bartender/server Sis: get rid of her. She seems to only be friendly to people she knows, short and snotty to those she doesn't know. My daughter wanted a burrito and that is why we went here and I don't usually like those so I got shrimp and fries and must say that was not a good choice fries were either still frozen or soggy or burnt, I did try the burrito and it was very good. And I say this with the confidence of having been in the "Little Burros" club that went and graded 15 burritos all over the north (including the supposedly great Traverse joints).
