I've had good food and service every time I've been there. Welcoming, easy to find and pretty interesting inside!

Caroline was the perfect waitress. We had the jalapeño Dip with pita bread, AMAZING. I save a bit to put on the Hangover Burger. The other two dishes Mac N Cheese with Brisket, Mac N Cheese with pulled pork. Hats off the kitchen staff. Food came out quickly and hot. So good we bought some Merchandise. T-Shirt and sticker. Should I do another review? Well, I did miss our waitress, Amanda this time, but the server that we had was spectacular as well.. This is just a happy place. The food was perfect and yes, I had the Squirrel salad again, but my sister had to build a burger with extra crispy sweet potato fries and her friend had a grilled chicken burger. He thought he was following doctors orders, but my sister took the bacon off it for him and ate it herself! . We couldn't sit in the sports part because I had something to do with the fan in the kitchen, so that's the only thing I didn't like as we sat at a different table than our absolute usual. Other than that, I can't help but giving this epic place with its epic chef five stars. It has to be my favorite place ever to eat at in Gaylord. read more

We were just passing through on the way to Northern Michigan and I'm so happy that we found the Pine squirrel. The long bar was filled with patrons, which made the ambience festive. We ordered a taco salad and white fish dinner, plus a couple beers. Everything was great and our waitress. Amanda was attentive, but not too attentive. She was really good. read more

Stopped in with friends today. First bar I have been in with a squirrel theme. It is a little weak in n squirrels, however has its own softball field. They use this as a draw and have their own league, GENIUS! Benji and I split a Coney Island Pizza. His wife, Beth' had a cheese pizza and my bride had the shrimp Basket. The Coney Island pizza had Vienna beef hot dog slices, coney sauce, and it was amazing!! Beth also liked her pizza. Karen says the shrimp are great. So were the fries. The place was neat and clean. Great bar atmosphere, lots of friendly folks. The value was amazing, 4 people ate for $50 plus tip. If I am ever this way again, and I hope I am, I am coming back. read more

We ordered the pretzel bites, Reuben with chips, chicken, Caesar, wrap with chips, and the chicken salad wrap with deviled potato salad. All were very delicious. We ordered this food to go, and it was ready in half the time they stated. Staff was extremely friendly and prices were reasonable. Stopped on Saturday afternoon and was expecting to wait with all the cars in the lot, but it was very spacious inside with a mix of hi-tops and low tables available. We had the Caesar wrap and the sloppy burger. The sloppy burger is like a mushroom Swiss on steroids. Very cheesy, lots of mushrooms but also bacon and onions. Delish! We had the potato salad for a side which was a nice alternative to fries. Our server was attentive and quick even though she had several larger tables in our area. read more

Unpleasant experience. Didn't feel very welcome there-- one would think being so close to Gaylaord a tourist town, they would be used to out of towners.. Looks like most clientele is the local softball team .. Having said that our server was pleasant and friendly. Food was just ok. Ordered Brisket Mac n cheese. Wife ordered chicken Caesar wrap. Both were delicious . Bartender served us and did the best job she could (she was busy) Restaurant was clean and comfortable. I would love to give a five star review, but the food was kind of slow out of the kitchen. read more

We just moved to the area from Arizona. We have been to the Pine Squirrel the past two Friday evenings for salad and pizza. We love it! The service is great and other patrons, very friendly. Salad fresh and pizza tasty. We will be back and plan on trying their walleye soon. read more

This place has an up north cabin feel. The bar has plenty of seating. There's lots of seating options for parties of two to large parties. It was a seat yourself place. We took our seats snd the waitress quickly greeted us. She was decent. Getting refills was hard as we left thirsty. The food was pretty good and the menu offered lots of options from burgers, Mac n Cheese to multiple different appetizers. I would make this stop again. read more

Stopped in after seeing good reviews. Did not disappoint! Bar vibe, but lots of seating. Wait staff was quick and very funny. Checked in on us often. Had Squirrel's Nest salad- loaded with goodies; Brisket Mac and Cheese- yummy meat; Pizza- also really good! Great food. Great service. Just a classic American establishment with cheesy pizza, burgers, and chicken strips. I got a hangover burger and the burger was plenty. Nice little down home bar with cheap beer and really good food. I really enjoyed the salmon dip which was home made with tons of sliced smoke salmon mixed in smoky cream cheese. The whitefish on my sandwich was seasoned and pan fried instead of being deep fried. Very tasty on a brioche bun. The coleslaw was surprising with shredded kale and carrots. I requested squirrel sauce which turned out to be very spicy BBQ. Make sure you upgrade to the excellent chunky fries because the standard potato chips are right out of a bag. And now some thoughts from my daughter Whitney: I really enjoyed our food! It came out so quickly. I ordered the adult size chicken tender basket which included four chicken tenders, fries (which were delicious by the way) ,and coleslaw. However it did not tell you what the different sizes included. I just went with the adult size. It also had a bunch of cute squirrel decorations along with a game room (darts, pool, air hockey, etc). Some others spread out for example, pinball, they also included a atm for change. Out side there was a baseball field in the back which was strange, but other than that no complaints! We stopped at Pine Squirrel on the way back from a trip to the U.P. While we normally are on the hunt for places with wider beer selections (we like our dark beers) there were a few options that we were happy with and we needed food. The lunch we had there was far better than we were expecting. The menu reads as mostly bar food, but the quality and portions were great. Go here for an unexpected treat. read more

Good food with a fairly diverse menu. Portions are very generous. A full size sub was huge. Two average eaters could split one with a side in my opinion. We went after 7pm on the weekend, it was fairly busy. Service was good. Parking on the north side of the building is a bit tight. read more

We arrived at 6:02p on a Friday night and took the last two seats at the bar...the restaurant was full...as a good one should be on a Friday night. As the next hour elapsed the restaurant dwindled down to about 50% capacity. Fast forward to 7:20p and our food arrived. We ordered nachos and a squirrel burger. The food was good but definitely not worth over an hour wait. Servers were hustling about but they apparently were understaffed (?) for a Friday night...especially in the kitchen. Unfortunately if we are ever in Gaylord again we will choose a different restaurant. read more

Come with our family during vacay. 6 of us total. 2 orders of walleye, EXCELLANT!! 2 of us ordered pulled pork, I brisket sandwich, Caesar salad with chix, shrimp basket. All were wonderful, food was top notch. Service was slow for food, not servers fault. This place is busy, a table would leave and people would be immediately sitting down. When pondering places to go and looking at reviews, it was hard to pass up Pine Squirrel. It felt wrong not to go to a place with this name when visiting Gaylord. It was a fairly busy bar atmosphere and albeit home to a good handful of regulars. The wait staff was friendly, helpful and on top of their game. We tried the taco salad and chicken fingers for food. Kept it simple and basic for our first visit. Both were good and hit the spot. The ranch is homemade and definitely was a determining factor on my ordering. read more

I was so happy I randomly chose the Pine Squirrel on Yelp for a recent lunch opportunity in Northern Michigan. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was a rockstar. She knew everyone , and was handling the entire restaurant's busy lunch crowd on this Tuesday afternoon. She was polite but efficient, and she seemed to know all of the regulars by name (and their shots and drinks almost there before they sat down) Overall just a really cool bar with excellent food choices. I opted for the Southwest blackened chicken wrap. Although the chicken wasn't "blackened" as I'd hoped, it was still delicious with corn and black beans and ranch dressing. I chose the sweet potato fries and they were well done and plentiful. I bet this bar is rocking on the weekends! read more
