Stopped in after a hot afternoon fishing the south branch. This is a laid-back Up North bar with a bit of an biker vibe. Menu was limited to basic bar food, though that's what I came for. Ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and liked it. The chicken breast was large and tender, which is mostly what you're looking for in this item. I washed down the bird with large draft of Two Hearted. Oberon was on offer too, and I saw a fair selection of craft brews in cans/bottles behind the bar, so if like me you suffer from beer snob tendencies, you won't feel left out here. Service was personable and efficient. I come to the Grayling/Roscommon area often and will probably work this into the rotation. read more

We go to Jack's for their fish on Fridays. It's deep fried cod with sides and a full good meal for the price. However, the wait staff could improve on their customer service. When we walked in and stood a minute and the doorway when finally a waitress sitting on a stool at the bar yelled "sit anywhere you want. " Our waitress was not at all friendly and made us feel like we were bothering her. We'll go back for the fish and hopefully get a little bit better Service the next time. read more

Passing through while on an exploratory weekday mission and we were pleased to find super friendly service at the bar, and locals that made us feel completely at home. The food and drinks couldn't be more predictable but I mean that in the best way possible. I really enjoyed my afternoon fried pickles and my wife enjoyed her margaritas. I'm not sure if it was Jack or not, but the owner was hanging around and the staff seemed happy to have him there. Nothing better than a place where people want to be working. We ordered everything on the late night menu and the boom boom shrimp were our fave! This is great bar food a low price. The pulled pork was smoky and delicious. Not a great selection of alcohol but for a small town, Jack's is a comfortable local hang out with delicious grub. The drinks weren't overly strong but I did mention everything was very reasonably priced. The place has an interesting smell. Almost like old wood with a hint of mildew. You can tell it has been around for awhile. The bar is nothing fancy, but there are pool tables and plenty of space for a group of friends to gather. read more

We love to support local, and have been doing so at this establishment for years. However, the last several times we have come, we have continually been disappointed. Staffing is an issue, and wait times are long. Salads don't come out before the dinner, and the order of service is not consistent or orderly. People who have come after us receive their food before us. People have to wait a long time for their checks. Also, the up charge for tarter sauce and lemon is crazy! Fifty cents for an extra lemon slice!? And extra for tarter sauce when they give you a medicine cup size tarter?' I think it's time to give up on this place. So sad, because it was good at one point. I WOULD NOT recommend, as the price isn't consistent with service-by a long shot. read more

We had to randomly eat out due to a power shortage...not a big deal, but it was after 8 and we have a 10 mo old. I called ahead and the staff said come on in. Despite the "good time" bar exterior, the staff was tremendous for a young family in need of food asap. Before we got sat they took an order for my daughter to get her food. After she was fed we enjoyed 3 different burgers (burger night) all cooked to our expectations and delicious. We hope to frequent Jacks again before we go home...nonetheless, Kiley and the rest of the staff have a special place in our heart! read more

My in-laws were raving about taco Tuesday here and so we stopped after our kayak trip. I would not have picked this place for taco Tuesday on my own, so it goes to show what a recommendation can do! We picked our seats and our server came right up to get our drink order. They had several taco choices and a pretty large menu outside of that. We started with the fried pickles, mozzarella sticks, and fresh cut fries. The servings for those appetizers were quite large! The fried pickles were in spear form and served with ranch and were tasty. The mozz sticks were my least favorite. I felt the cheese didn't hold up and was kind of mealy feeling if that makes sense. The fries were legit! I had to force myself to stop eating them. I ordered the boom boom shrimp and the carnitas taco. I dove into the shrimp one first and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was! The tortilla was amazing! I was pretty full at this point but started in on the carnitas. It was stuffed full of meat and just as good as the shrimp one. I couldn't finish it and had to pass it off to the hubby. It was a great find and you get plenty of food for the money. If you like poor service (not just slow), taking orders that came in after us, paper plates and plastic forks, greasy fish served out of the fryer, not drained, literally a handful of fries, a handful of "side" salad with only cheese or overly creamy cole slaw! The two boiled red potatoes were ok if you didn't like fries. Yuk! Definitely not the best! Matt's way better and costs less! read more

Food was OK but when the bill came there was a "convenience fee" included. Whose convenience, mine or theirs? If you're going to sneak in an extra buck or 2 in a $45 bill have the decency to post it on your front door. I'm a local and I don't like shady business. Called yesterday to order take out fish. I ordered 6 pieces of cod, no potato, no goopy Cole slaw. Just fish. I was promptly denied. Told, "We dont do that here" and hung up on. Nothing like turning away a locals money. That's ok, Sam's Diner in St Helen was happy to take my business and my money. And Sam's is closer to my house. Sam's will be my new go to for fish. I only have a first impression of this place because after one visit I just haven't wanted to go again... yet. We visited during winter and this time of year tends to only be locals (which we are lol) because unless there's enough snow the snow mobile tourists stay down state. That being said there's always a discomfort when going to a locals hangout where everyone knows each other and you feel you stick out like a sore thumb. The service was bad, we felt ignored. It was hard to tell who was an employee from a customer because some people simply just went behind the bar. Half the bar was tarted off so it appeared much smaller inside... we asked why and they said it's not busy enough to have the entire thing open... but a tarp/sheet is an off way to "shut down" half a building... craft beer selection was very small. Menu was a typical bar menu and we decided to get an appetizer here because we just didn't vibe enough to get dinner also. The appetizer took a very long time to arrive and it was burnt... we got fried mushrooms. The couple next to us was very angry and actually complained to management for the quality of their food order also which really rubbed off on our already questionable experience... off season is a tough time to visit a place though especially in a small northern Michigan town so we will be back to see if there's an improvement. read more

We ordered the fish dinner tonight. Been going here to eat for along time. We wanted to support it while we came to our cabin. The fish pieces were small two little pieces in each to go container, the lettuce should have been thrown out. No dressing for salad, less than a hand full of fries in one dinner and bake potato in other were not cooked all the way thru. I know times are tough but send cold food out the door and a huge decrease in porportions. It makes it hard to want spend almost 35.00 for food like that. I'm sure we will not come back even after the pandemic. read more

Four of us went for the Friday fish fry. Not impressed. Coleslaw was a thick, gloppy, tasteless mess as was the tarter sauce. The fries,(frozen), were barely browned. Another 2-3 minutes in the cooker would've been a big help especially if you're short cutting things and using frozen fries. The perch was just OK and the one order of cod was probably the best. On the plus side, service was good and the beer was cold. Too many other places to eat to return to Jack's anytime soon. read more

First time here. Radio is blaring'crazy bitch' at 130 in the afternoon with kids around. The fish could have been good IF the fryer was at the correct temperature. Since it was not, the fish was swimming in nothing but grease. Could hardly eat it. If you're into grease dripping from the inside of your non-flavored batter, this is your place. Been coming here for 20 years and lately the service has been way less then decent. It has been completely ridiculous lately here, we have waited a hour for a appetizer recently and received attitude with a worker present. None of the waitresses had a attitude and were amazing but i believe Her name was Mandy the owners wife i believe. We arrived around 2:30 placed order for appetizer at 2:45 didn't receive said food until 3:50. We placed our Actual Main course food around 3:15 in hopes our appetizer would be given shortly after as we were told. We received our food at 4:08. With Baked Potato that was so cold it couldn't melt butter, and both burgers were cooked wrong. Now about the Trouble we had, she was very rude about when he had a complaint which was talked to her calmly but she retorted with attitude to the situation, tossed the silverware on to the table, went outside to complain in front of other customers that overheard conversation then proceeded to lie about talking wrongly when asked about it.
