My husband and I came here for breakfast. Great spot for breakfast or lunch. They serve breakfast all day too! Lots of parking for cars and snowmobilers. We went by car since it was soooo cold. Once we got there, we were greeted by a really nice hostess. She seated us in a booth. We wanted latte with breakfast and let us know Uproot is owned by the same owners so we could order a coffee online and bring it over if we pick it up ourselves. So nice! For breakfast, my husband order then homemade corned beef hash with sourdough toast. I ordered the Irish skillet with cinnamon bread. Both were delish! We hung out for a bit before battling the cold. This was such a delightful surprise! Breakfast is served all day, who doesn't love that? The menu has plenty of great options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, so there's something for everyone. Service was fantastic, and all the food is homemade in-house, which really shows in the flavor. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. We came for dinner and enjoyed chili, chicken noodle soup, cornbread, fried mushrooms, pretzel bites, corn nibblers, and a cheeseburger with fries. Everything was tasty and satisfying. Corn nibbler app is a must! One note: I'd skip the peach pie, the peaches are frozen and, in my opinion, not worth the calories. What a great find! We are camping nearby and decided to eat out tonight and boy, were we glad we did! Our orders were taken immediately. Three of the six of us had meat loaf. Others had an open-faced hot turkey sandwich, chicken fried steak and broasted chicken. Everything came out really quickly. Everything was excellent including the sides (real mashed potatoes!) and cornbread! Prices were very reasonable. And? They serve breakfast all day. We looked up for a restaurant that would fit for my big family. While entering we noticed how filled the place was. Most times this is a great indication that the food would be bussin. Tammy was our waitress and was just an absolute sweetheart. I ordered the Pork Ribs and it was delicious. But what I really loved was the cheese that was served with the pretzel bites. Traveling through MANCELONA, I have always wondered about Iron Skillet so my sister and I stopped for breakfast. The service was excellent and everything was clean in the restaurant. I had biscuits and gravy with 2 eggs. My sister ordered the Anvil Skillet, which had everything but the kitchen sink. She enjoyed her meal. While the dinning area is relatively boring it is spattered with some really unique industrial lights with Edison bulbs that really liven up the place. I ordered the meatloaf with baked beans and mashed potatoes. The meat loaf was amazing. One of the best restaurant meatloaf's I've ever had. I got it with their special tomato based sauce that was spectacular, I don't know what is in it, but wow. The baked beans and mashed potatoes were both very good. The person I was with ordered their burger and loved it. The service was very good, efficient, and very friendly. Overall a 5 star review. Would I return? What an absolute treat. My friends and I were heading home from Bellaire and we stopped into the Iron Skillet. To say I was impressed would be a drastic understatement. First of all - our waitress, Tammy, was a delight! She was social and didn't make us feel like we were work, but rather company. And then she mentioned what would be the holy grail of all French toast - Gingerbread French Toast with a Eggnog Cream Cheese drizzle. That would've been enough for a breakfast alone, but because who I am as a person, I ordered the Iron Skillet as well. The Iron Skillet featured a perfectly cooked bed of hash browns, sausage gravy, melted cheese, homemade slow cooked brisket, and two eggs made to order - all served in a personal skillet dish. It was the best skillet I've ever had in my life. After all was said and done, Tammy informed me and my party of the shop next door and how everything in there was Michigan based products and souvenirs. I'm from Flint, so I wasn't sure how interested I'd be in a Michigan based souvenir... WELL.. little did I know that they sold Iron Skillet shirts there. Let's start talking about service and making customers feel welcome. When you walk into a restaurant and you are treated like you're bothering the staff, that's a problem. One server made us want to leave. The other server was pretty good. There aren't a lot of options in Mancelona, but good grief. I felt like talking our family right out and saying forget it. Make customers think you want their business! To the food: Our group ordered many items with some positives and negatives. Let's start with the good. By far the breakfast dishes were the best. Hashbrowns, eggs, biscuits and gravey - all good. The brisket in one of the dishes not so good. (more on that later). The guys who had the breakfast meals for dinner said they'd highly recommend them. 4* plates (skillets). The 3 different burgers rated "good." Nothing exceptional or poor. I had the onion ring Texas burger which was ok. I was hoping for more from the beef patty. Just regular I suppose. The other 2 guests agreed that the burgers were good, but not great. Fries were underwhelming and the tater tots seems like a gas station microwave special. No real crisp to them or any type of seasoning. Plain and apparently under cooked. Blah. The grilled chicken salad was also ok - nothing earth shattering. No complaints. No high marks. The chicken was alright. Sort of a comfort food meal. The club earned a 3* grade also. The low point of the night was the brisket. My daughter ordered the brisket sandwich and she showed me the brisket after taking a bite. Seriously, the most overcooked, dried out piece of brisket (was it brisket)? I have ever seen. Reflecting back I should have sent it back. It was no where close to a good slice of brisket. I highly recommend AVOIDING the brisket at this place. The brisket with the breakfast was terrible as well. I'll confess, I am a stickler for good smoked meat. Yes, I've been to some of Texas' best bbq joints. I know great brisket. This was an extremely bad attempt at brisket and it should not have been served. Either take it off the menu and improve the offering. Very disappointing. Overall, I would find items on this menu that are good. The breakfast skillets, club sandwich or maybe the burger. Not sure this restaurant rates a 4 star ranking. We believed it settles squarely in the 3 star lane. The horrific brisket almost had me go with a 2*, but the breakfast fare kept me from doing that. Again, not a lot of options in Mancelona. Oh well, it was a nice evening in northern Michigan. read more

Went on a ski trip to shandy creek with a few friends and yelped breakfast in the area. This was one of the top results, and after checking out a few of the pictures... we decided to check it out because it was close and looked pretty solid. It was a seat yourself type of deal, so we grabbed a table - were quickly greeted and had our drink order taken. The waitress was super nice, helpful, and dealt well with 5 guys screwing around early in the morning. I ordered a quad bypass skillet, and it came in an actual skillet - which I have never saw at any other place. So that was beyond cool, the only problem was it got a little messy when trying to mix it up, but I loved it. It tasted amazing, and was exactly what we needed after being out on the hill all day yesterday and at the local bars all night. On top of my skillet, i also ordered a side of pancakes and biscuits w/ gravy - both were very fluffy and i had no problem destroying the whole meal. One of my buddies got the breakfast burrito and it was monstrous. I actually asked the waitress about it before hand and she said that it would fill her up easily - i'm a bigger guy and thought to just go with a larger meal, but after seeing it, it is definitely enough for one person. It was a great experience overall, and if we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely be back. read more
