Picked up dinner here for the first time. They won me over with the number of veg and vegan soups and sandwiches! Today I was able to get my favorite, a tomato sandwich! I e never seen one at a restaurant before and I e been in love with them since I read Harriet the Spy as a kid! Their grownup version of this sandwich was amazing! I have been a huge supporter of Loup Soup since they opened and have remained a frequent customer since, with an average of 2-4 visits/ per week to the restaurant. Unfortunately, their service has been trending downward. I just made a call to the restaurant to ask about my online order and was treated with a disrespectful tone, not assisted at with my order because the employee "wasn't by the order", and then ultimately hung up on. This is exactly the type of place Tosa Village needs! We stopped in for take out during the week they opened and were impressed with the variety of soups and sandwiches. The ham and swiss was simple yet tasty with subtle tang from the pickles and mustard aioli. The mulligatawny was hearty, but lacked some aspect of flavor (maybe some spicy heat?). The cheddar and corn chowder was SO GOOD. Creamy, salty, cheesy, and with fresh corn that popped when bit into. The bread was fresh, soft, and meant to be dipped. I want to like this place, because I'm always rooting for the local business to do well and stick around. And I do wish Loup well, however I can't say it's anything more than average at best. Now, I'm not a sophisticated foodie, I didn't expect anything gourmet, but for a local venue my hopes were on executing soup and bread well. It may be simple but it's delicious when done right. This was my first time visiting Loup, I placed an order on line for a quart of soup and a bakery dessert. The staff is very friendly and professional and did a great job even though they had the misfortune of telling me they were out of my chosen pastry dessert. C'est la vie, I chose a replacement. There are two key factors in this 3-star rating. First is the bread. It's baked in house as I was informed, but it is nothing more than squishy white bread, with no hint of crust and that's very disappointing. The garden vegetable soup was okay; it is chock full of green beans, cabbage, peas, carrot cubes and corn kernals, but way too salty. I went online to see if I could review the nutritional information, but it's not readily available. I also did not see a link to provide feedback on their site. Finally, it's possible I over-looked the info about where it's recommended to park because upon my arrival street parking was scarce and I opted for the nearby lot to the north but as I exited my car an attendant inquired which business I was headed to and then informed me that it was a private lot for the nearby Baskin Robbins, Starbucks, etc. I drove around the block 2 more times and a space opened in front of Loup. I'll consider giving them another try - but they'll have to improve the bread recipe first. Edit to add : Going to recommend they label their desserts. Their bakery comes from a place that cooks with lard. But I don't recall seeing that called out on the online order form or in the dessert case and I wouldn't think to ask about it since it is not common. Found that out after getting home and seeing the "love & lard" branding on the bakery sleeve. UGH. read more

I've been looking forward to trying Loup for awhile now. When I had Covid and my dad offered to pick up some soup, it seemed like an ideal opportunity to give Loup a try rather than a chain with similar options. It's great that they offer vegetarian and vegan choices. He picked up a quart of rustic garden vegetable along with bread and butter. Unfortunately, the soup was salted to the point of being nearly inedible. A previous reviewer noted the same thing about one year ago, so it doesn't appear the recipe has changed. The soup also seemed to consist of primarily frozen (green beans, peas, corn) and canned (tomatoes) veggies without any added grains/legumes for bulk and protein. The bread was simple, soft white bread. While I appreciated that the butter was room temp, it, too, was incredibly salty. To avoid throwing it away, I had to add unsalted quinoa and water to the soup at home. For $20 with tip and at a place specializing in soup, I definitely expected much higher quality. read more

While their soup is excellent there service is not. I had questions about the soup due to allergies. It can all be found on line by the way which the young man could have easily said this. Instead he was short, snippy and hung up on me probably out of frustration. I did ask for the manager at one point as I was shocked how rude he was. I quite love this place, nice, delicious variety of soups, I love the Vegetable/Minestrone soup. Chilli is great as well. I don't really like beans, but I'll eat their chilli's beans. Underwhelmed! I ordered the Pesto Mozzarella Sammich with a cup of cheddar corn chowder. The sandwich was really good, quality tomato, great flavor, the bun was very slightly toasted/warm. Honestly, if the soup had been even close to as good as the sandwich they'd get 4 stars. This is where they lost me though. The soup was watery, lacked flavor and seasoning and tasted oddly fishy like clam chowder. (looked nothing like the pictures others have posted here) and if there was cheese anywhere near that soup I couldn't find it. My husband got a bowl of the red pepper Gouda- same watery experience,different flavor. My son(8) was very happy with his grilled cheese. We stopped in the other day and it was such a let down after being excited to try this place out. Recent reviews have been hit or miss, but we still went anyways. The restaurant is cozy and looks great when you walk in, but that doesn't matter when the soup was such a let down. We tried a few different soups and they all either tasted salty, like the ingredients came from a can, or just left us not wanting to finish the whole bowl. We walked in the door, the place was relatively empty, we went to the counter and placed our order, sat down at the table and waited and waited and waited and waited, Because there were 10 Call in orders in front of us.. The grilled cheese sandwich was soggy with grease (which didn't taste like butter) with very little grilling (no browness to the bread and cheese hardly melted).
