Perrrfect spot! So cozy and so yummy! We had the classic breakfast and the French toast and both were phenomenal!

We sat outside on the porch the other day. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the pancakes with sausage and their vanilla syrup and enjoyed it. The rest of my party ordered the French dip special and really enjoyed their meals as well. FYI you order and pay first on the porch then they seat you. This is one of the most delightful fines that I have had in a while. I saw it on North Carolina weekend on PBS and this recommendation brought us to this restaurant. We had to wait about 30 minutes but it was well worth it. Their creative twists on southern food is spectacular. Carrot cakes, French toast, curry chicken salad sandwich, and the breakfast burrito were out of this world. This will be one of my new favorites in the mountains. Quaint little restaurant located in a restored historic house. We went for breakfast, and the food really was excellent. I had eggs, home fried potatoes, and the fruit (which was freshly cut strawberries, blueberries, and bananas - so good!) The place is super busy, and if you are looking for intimacy, this wouldn't be the place, as the seats are close together and some tables are shared community tables. However, I love the homey feel of the place, and the food really was tasty! My only major complaint is the wait for the food. Rather than having a wait on the front end to be seated like most places, where at least you know how long it is going to take, they have you line up, order, pay, and be seated, even though your food may not be even close to being prepared yet. We sat for well over half an hour waiting for our food - which was only eggs and breakfast foods. This is our second time visiting Louise's kitchen and they impressed yet again. I ordered Lou's Dip (French dip) and it is by far the BEST French dip I've ever had. Their horseradish sauce, perfectly melted cheese, and the dip alone, was incredible. My husband ordered the black mountain Philly cheesesteak w/the black bean corn salad. Another great choice! At 9:00 AM on a quiet weekday, neighboring businesses fed-up with Louise customers parking in their private lots have stationed a tow truck nearby. Not a good start. Then, the odd service. The "greeter" standing at a podium outside gave us a menu and we had to place our entire order with her, AND PAY, before entering the restaurant! First time I've ever experienced this, and I refused to be stampeded into a tip. A tip that is supposed to be quality-service dependent. Crazy time. What if I want something else? Back outside to pay-in-advance again? The food was a little above average. Portions were not extravagant, which I prefer. Service was slow, and since there is no real "waitstaff" inside the restaurant, there was no one to develop a rapport with. Just various servers dropping off random food items. Our group of 4 were asked to stand at the counter to wait to order and find a table, but are glad that we did. The food is tasty and there is a good mix of Southern and Tex-Mex style brunch options to choose from. I opted for their pancakes which were so fluffy and topped with a good amount of strawberries; instead of syrup, it came with a buttery vanilla bean sauce which went really well with the pancakes. A gem to find in Black Mountain! I will be back the next time I have the pleasure of being in this town. Great location and friendly staff. Louise's Kitchen was a decent brunch spot, but honestly I'm not sure what all the hype is about. Both times we were in the area, we noticed that the line is always out the door! When we called to ask for an estimate of the wait time on that Sunday morning, they said it would take 10-15 minutes in line to order at the counter, then another 10-15 minutes for them to bring out your food. In reality, it was more like 40 minutes standing in line and 5 minutes to get the food. Now for the food. The Huevos Rancheros (Crispy Corn Tortillas layered with refried beans, pico de gallo and shredded cheese, topped with 2 eggs your way, guacamole and sour cream) is one of the two dishes served only on Sunday. It was a solid option, but I think the Blueberry Waffles were better! So soft, buttery, and packed with blueberries on the inside. Also, the sausage that we got with it was phenomenal. The waffles did get cold really quickly though so don't hesitate to scarf it all down! Except for the hustle and bustle, I liked the atmosphere of Louise's Kitchen. Y'all! what a gem! Back Story: We were traveling through NC & wanted to stop for a nice brunch someplace along the route. We anticipated having to take a detour into Asheville, but instead found Louise's, not only on I-40, but less than a half mile off the interstate. The ambiance : we agreed to sit outside since it's a beautiful spring easter morning. They offered inside, porch or yard seating. I was a tad chilly in the shade, so when I spotted a table under the pergola, & jumped on it. I wish I had peaked inside. Drinks : We each had a megamosa. Highly recommended. Hubby went traditional with the OJ but I got the mango& pineapple. These came out within a few minutes of us sitting down. Perfect size in a pint mason jar for this occasion. Food : the big boy burrito looked mighty good but I was feeling some down home biscuits & gravy. Hubs got the burrito & I wish I had. It was a loaded, hardy breakfast burrito with the best sausage we've ever had. It was advertised as Chop Shop sausage outta Asheville. The biscuits & gravy left a little top be desired. The biscuits themselves were incredible, the gravy had a tad too much oregano, maybe, for my taste. We were driving through on I40 and once we saw Louise's menu online, we had to stop! We were scared by the seemingly long wait outside but they have their system down! Grab a menu in line, place your order at the front, & pay while they seat you. We waited a maximum of 10 minutes! And the food was great! Strong coffee, and they even had almond milk and didn't charge me extra like Starbucks does. I had the French toast and crispy bacon; my husband had two eggs, potatoes, bacon and toast. Do not like being ask for a tip before I get seated, before I eat, etc. Table was not clean when I got seated. Good thing: Coffee didn't take long, however, not fresh. Food came right away. Waffle was fluffy but very few blueberries (unlike what the menu described). 2 thin pieces of bacon. Don't recommend if your hungry. Friendly service but felt rushed out. One of my favorite places to go for brunch! I have been here multiple times & every time I go the food is always so good! I got the pancakes & a fried egg in the side. They use local dynamite coffee (which I personally think is the best coffee in town). The staff is always super friendly and always ready to refill your cup & check to make everything is good. Absolutely a 5/5. The space was so inviting. Located in downtown Black Mountain, Louise's is in a renovated Victorian style house. Seating stretches from inside the building, along the wrap around porch onto the lawn. It's like a party you see from a distance and want to be invited to. When you walk in you'll order at the counter, be prepared on the weekends for a short wait - it's worth it. You order and pay at the counter - grab your beverage (alcoholic or not) and they'll bring your food to you. The service was incredibly friendly when I went for brunch on what seemed like the busiest day of the week. Everyone was helpful and patient and didn't seem overwhelmed whatsoever. The food was awesome - they have a large menu, I stuck to the basics but it really impressed me. I like this spot, but I had a problem there yesterday. I have now been there twice, and I had the same problem, which was that they all wear face masks, but both times there were people in line, not drinking anything, yakking away without masks. I asked the couple the first time, and they were rude. Yesterday, the problem I had was much worse. It was the food. The first time, the waffle was great. Yesterday, I tried the pancakes. They were literally raw in the middle...not undercooked...raw! I realized it too late. I got sick and had to go to urgent care. Please monitor the temperature of the grill, and leave the pancakes on long enough to cook through. Thank you. read more
