Second visit to the kitchen, and with food this good, there will definitely be more in the future! We visited on a very cold morning, and orders are placed outside on the porch before entering. That's fine in normal cold weather, but at 22 degrees the overhead heaters just don't quite cut it. I think this part of the experience could use a little revision. My wife had pancakes with vanilla syrup and sausage. I ordered the classic breakfast with eggs, grits, sausage, and toast. Everything was very flavorful. My only complaint was that my food was lukewarm. It seemed like my food may have been finished and sat for a few minutes while my wife's pancakes were completed. On a cold morning, I would have preferred a hotter meal, the grits weren't warm enough to melt the butter, and the toast was cold, so I didn't even attempt to butter it. That said, even with the temperature issue, the food was still very tasty, and given how cold it was outside, I'm willing to let it slide. Everything arrived quickly, and the restaurant itself is very quaint, set in an old home that is very clean. On our first visit, they offered chocolate chip cookies to go, and they were excellent! They didn't have any this time, but we'll be back again to try our luck. To those about to nosh, I salute you!!
Service and ambiance went well and the inside felt like being invited to someone else's house. I got a Reuben sandwich (with corn beef, sauerkraut and thousand island dressing) without Swiss cheese on GF bread, alongside potato salad. The flavors of the sandwich worked out well, but the bread I thought was a little soft. Regarding the potato salad, I usually prefer it warm and this was ice cold, but it was seasoned with paprika and chili powder, which gave it a good kick. Overall, this is the ideal diner-themed spot.
Best biscuits in the South! Everything is homemade, local and fresh. Friendly, homey atmosphere. Come early before the biscuits sell out!!!
Louise's Kitchen deserves every one of these five stars. The food was outstanding, starting with the Big Boy Burrito. It was absolutely amazing, packed with flavor, and clearly made with care. This is the kind of meal you think about later in the day and wish you had another one waiting. The service was just as great. Everyone was friendly and thoughtful, and they even offered to bring water out for my dog, which was a really nice and unexpected touch. When we were finished, they also offered a to-go coffee, which says a lot about how much they care about their customers. Great food, genuinely kind service, and little details that make a big difference. We'll definitely be back.
This is my first review I have posted before leaving the premises where I had a meal. I am in Asheville NC supporting the community after the devastation caused by Helene. I had the BEST biscuits & gravy I have ever had. Due to the lack of clean water they use disposable dishware/utensils but that, doesn't reduce the quality, freshness and taste of the dish. The biscuits are perfect and the gravy''s consistency, and protein ingredients are flavorful and delicious I compliment the kitchen staff The wait staff is friendly and deliver excellent service.
My hubby and I stopped here for brunch on our way down the mountain and I cannot rave enough. The food was delicious and came out fast even though they were full. The staff were lovely and attentive. We didn't have the kids with us but I will not hesitate to bring them next time. Seating inside is a little limited but I know they'd make it work. The ambiance was great. Very home cooking esque and cozy. Definitely give Louise's Kitchen a try and don't forget to try the vanilla bean syrup... Trust me.
Decided to try a new place. My daughter and I love Black Mountain so we decided to drive up early for breakfast. We chose Louise's kitchen. My daughter order the grit pancakes, delicious. I ordered a veggie bagel with egg, and we shared a fresh made cinnamon roll. The food was absolutely delicious. I forgot pictures of our food because we just dug in so quickly and gobbled everything up. I apologize. Next time there will be pictures. The coffee (nice and strong, yummy )and the service were great. The house is absolutely lovely. I love the ambience and sitting in what was once someone's home really adorable. Please don't skip one of their homemade cinnamon rolls. It was worth the drive to Black Mountain alone.
A very unique experience. You order as you go into the restaurant. As you obtain your seat, someone takes your drink order. The food was five star, the big boy burrito and the grit cake were amazing. When we arrived Saturday morning around 9:30, there was a line of about 20 people which was intimidating but it moved fast enough, especially understanding that they take your order as you enter. A must visit restaurant.
A breakfast spot walking distance from your hotel is always a bonus. But when it's a gem like this place, that's a blessing. Cool old house turned into a restaurant. Their outdoor seating is on the wrap around porch. Perfection. We sat on the porch and enjoyed coffee, juice, fresh fruit, perfectly cooked eggs, biscuits with gravy and a magical waffle. It may seem silly but to order a side of fruit and get actual fruit instead of a bowl of melon was amazing. Thankful for small businesses like this!!

Excellent Reuben Sandwich and Lobster Bisque with real chunks of lobster! Really good and quick service! You order outside before they seat you. Be prepared to wait in the rain if necessary. It's worth it! We had our family reunion group and they handled us without a problem. It was very crowded but quiet enough for table conversation. read more
Really good breakfast food in a quaint old house. Everything tasted really good. The sausage that comes from the chop shop next door is an absolute must. Comes in a patty and has the best spice flavor to it. Challah French toast was huge and dense. Prices were really good. read more
Delicious food and great service! Outdoor seating is spacious and homey. The menu options are great. Only reason(s) I didn't give a 5 stars is that the portions are small so the other 2 people with me were still hungry after. Also it is slightly confusing where and how to order but there's an outdoor podium where you order and pay. :) read more

Service was nice but honestly not a lot of choices in the area. We both got the biscuits and gravy which were good. I asked for hot sauce and after spending so much time in Virginia lives that they didn't give me Texas Pete! The restaurant is in a converted old house which makes it quaint. Parking is limit d and street parking my be needed. Don't be thrown off as you order on the porch before they seat you! read more

We sat outside on the porch the other day. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I had the pancakes with sausage and their vanilla syrup and enjoyed it. The rest of my party ordered the French dip special and really enjoyed their meals as well. FYI you order and pay first on the porch then they seat you. Beware the parking lot is extremely small, it's best to find on the street parking and walk to Louise's. read more
This is one of the most delightful fines that I have had in a while. I saw it on North Carolina weekend on PBS and this recommendation brought us to this restaurant. We had to wait about 30 minutes but it was well worth it. Their creative twists on southern food is spectacular. Carrot cakes, French toast, curry chicken salad sandwich, and the breakfast burrito were out of this world. This will be one of my new favorites in the mountains. And it's located in an historic home in Black Mountain. I love this place! read more

Louise's Kitchen is a real gem in the quaint town of Black Mountain. The restaurant has quite a following as evidenced by the steady stream of folks out the door! Eclectic in both menu and clientele, Louise's has something for everyone. From the grit and black bean cakes to your traditional eggs and potatoes, everything is repaired with care and presented by the super friendly waitstaff. Upon entering the restaurant you proceed to the counter where you place your order. You are then given a large playing card to display on your table of choice. Everything is made fresh to order so you have plenty of time to people watch. Be prepared to come back, and often. Louise's is seriously crave-worthy! read more
Quaint little restaurant located in a restored historic house. We went for breakfast, and the food really was excellent. I had eggs, home fried potatoes, and the fruit (which was freshly cut strawberries, blueberries, and bananas - so good!) The place is super busy, and if you are looking for intimacy, this wouldn't be the place, as the seats are close together and some tables are shared community tables. However, I love the homey feel of the place, and the food really was tasty! My only major complaint is the wait for the food. Rather than having a wait on the front end to be seated like most places, where at least you know how long it is going to take, they have you line up, order, pay, and be seated, even though your food may not be even close to being prepared yet. We sat for well over half an hour waiting for our food - which was only eggs and breakfast foods. Overall, I did enjoy the experience and the food, but I wouldn't go back on a Saturday morning. read more

This is our second time visiting Louise's kitchen and they impressed yet again. I ordered Lou's Dip (French dip) and it is by far the BEST French dip I've ever had. Their horseradish sauce, perfectly melted cheese, and the dip alone, was incredible. My husband ordered the black mountain Philly cheesesteak w/the black bean corn salad. Another great choice! This location is dog friendly, beautiful porch to sit out on and enjoy the nice weather, and the staff are all incredibly sweet and attentive. read more

Delicious Southern breakfast at great prices ($7-9 per plate) - it's not surprising to see why this place was so packed and is definitely worth the wait! Our group of 4 were asked to stand at the counter to wait to order and find a table, but are glad that we did. The food is tasty and there is a good mix of Southern and Tex-Mex style brunch options to choose from. I opted for their pancakes which were so fluffy and topped with a good amount of strawberries; instead of syrup, it came with a buttery vanilla bean sauce which went really well with the pancakes. I got bacon on the side which was crunchy the way I like it. My husband got the Big Boy Burrito which was stuffed with egg, cheese, bacon, and sausage and was filling. Our friends got the huevos and thought they were delicious. Overall, great experience with food and service - will definitely stop by the next time in the area! read more
The perfect breakfast spot if you're staying in Black Mountain. We stopped in before a day of hiking and all enjoyed what we got. Due to COVID, they're currently offering outdoor dining only. They have a wrap around porch with heaters and thick plastic window coverings so we weren't cold (temps were in the 40s the morning we went). You walk up to the hostess stand, order, pay and then they bring the food to your table. I had a Bloody Mary and Louise's hot cakes with vanilla bean maple syrup. The maple syrup was delicious and the hot cakes were light and fluffy with a little crunch. They have a spin on the traditional Bloody Mary and offer theirs with a jalapeño cream ale beer. It wasn't for me but it was unique and I appreciated the employee letting me know that the taste is different. Stop by if you're in the area! It won't disappoint! read more

A gem to find in Black Mountain! I will be back the next time I have the pleasure of being in this town. Great location and friendly staff. It was probably 15 minutes after they opened on Sunday and there was a line out the door already. We kept thinking "oh that means its good!" (The line moved fast) And it was!! I was with 2 friends and we ate every single bite! I ordered the cheese steak and this comes with their own pimento cheese!! Yummmmmmmm. And a side of my choice, pasta salad. We were traveling and I was worried this would be heavy on my stomach or too much I'd have leftovers. Let me just say it was perfect size and palate. The inside is really cute, its like visiting a friends house for a meal :) read more
Located in an old home with a generous wrap around porch, this gem is perfect for breakfast before hiking. You walk up to the tent to place your order and pay for your meal. I couldn't decide between two items so I got a half order of the grit cake and a side of pancakes with homemade vanilla syrup. Both items were fresh, homemade and perfect portions. Several staff members walked around constantly refilling coffee mugs and water glasses which was a nice touch. read more

Great service and delicious breakfast! My husband had the pulled pork quesadilla (so good) I enjoyed the standard plate with a blood orange mimosa. Plenty of outdoor seating and single use utensils, plates etc to accommodate for the pandemic. read more

Sweet tea: perfectly sweet and served in a mason jar like the good Lord intended. -Grit Cake- perfectly seasoned and crispy, great pico salsa!! -biscuits and gravy: They were good but nothing to write home about -breakfast burrito- this is where it's at! ORDER THIS! The atmosphere is as southern as is legally allowed with seating on the porch or inside a beautiful old house with flowering trees all around. I rather have table service but pleased with the order and paythe first setup. All the staff was friendly and warm. read more

Absolutely phenomenal food and service! We had the veggie quesadilla, steak and cheese and a fruit plate. To drink my husband had a blueberry beer and I had a blackberry cranberry mimosa that was amazing!! This place is as adorable and homey as it gets! A must try! read more

Liked the vibe -- homey porch setting and attentive service -- but food was a mix of hits and misses. Definitely recommend the mega mimosa but maybe not on an empty stomach lol. My spouse and I shared the big boy burrito and the French toast. Burrito was great, especially with some hot sauce. The French toast was not good. We didn't even finish half. Not eggy enough; more like a piece of bread that we put syrup on. I'd go back for the setting and service and would probably try the pancakes next time. read more

Louise's Kitchen was a decent brunch spot, but honestly I'm not sure what all the hype is about. Both times we were in the area, we noticed that the line is always out the door! When we called to ask for an estimate of the wait time on that Sunday morning, they said it would take 10-15 minutes in line to order at the counter, then another 10-15 minutes for them to bring out your food. In reality, it was more like 40 minutes standing in line and 5 minutes to get the food. Now for the food. The Huevos Rancheros (Crispy Corn Tortillas layered with refried beans, pico de gallo and shredded cheese, topped with 2 eggs your way, guacamole and sour cream) is one of the two dishes served only on Sunday. It was a solid option, but I think the Blueberry Waffles were better! So soft, buttery, and packed with blueberries on the inside. Also, the sausage that we got with it was phenomenal. The waffles did get cold really quickly though so don't hesitate to scarf it all down! Except for the hustle and bustle, I liked the atmosphere of Louise's Kitchen. The weather was nice when we came so we got to enjoy sitting out on their cute porch. read more

10/10/21 Good gracious...I heard from a few locals that Louise's was great place to have breakfast while we were visiting here in Black Mountain, but had no idea it would be quite a wait to even get in the door...it must be even better than I thought!! The anticipation of waiting in line added the the already building curiosity to even see the menu, much less, to taste the food!! Well, I was too hungry after waiting over an hour and only moved about 25 feet... I guess I will try tomorrow! :/ read more
Y'all! what a gem! Back Story: We were traveling through NC & wanted to stop for a nice brunch someplace along the route. We anticipated having to take a detour into Asheville, but instead found Louise's, not only on I-40, but less than a half mile off the interstate. I wouldn't be surprised if this place had a line around the building 99% of the time, but our service was superb! First impressions : Circle the block till you spot someone leaving & steal their parking spot. You order from the hostess stand on the porch, choose your seating & they'll miraculously find ya. The ambiance : we agreed to sit outside since it's a beautiful spring easter morning. They offered inside, porch or yard seating. I was a tad chilly in the shade, so when I spotted a table under the pergola, & jumped on it. I wish I had peaked inside. Drinks : We each had a megamosa. Highly recommended. Hubby went traditional with the OJ but I got the mango& pineapple. These came out within a few minutes of us sitting down. Perfect size in a pint mason jar for this occasion. Food : the big boy burrito looked mighty good but I was feeling some down home biscuits & gravy. Hubs got the burrito & I wish I had. It was a loaded, hardy breakfast burrito with the best sausage we've ever had. It was advertised as Chop Shop sausage outta Asheville. The biscuits & gravy left a little top be desired. The biscuits themselves were incredible, the gravy had a tad too much oregano, maybe, for my taste. It was still a delicious dish, but I wouldn't get it again without a side of sausage to help balance out the seasonings. It was a large helping with 2 biscuits & an ample amount of gravy. Worth every star read more

Wow, what a find! Louise's definitely has a small town kitchen vibe, and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Servers are energetic and friendly, and service was very fast. Went with a friend and got the buttermilk pancakes, bacon, and iced tea and it was so so good! The iced tea especially was so refreshing and delicious. Friend got the waffles and enjoyed them as well. Definitely recommend if you are ever in Black Mountain! read more

One of my favorite places to go for brunch! I have been here multiple times & every time I go the food is always so good! I got the pancakes & a fried egg in the side. They use local dynamite coffee (which I personally think is the best coffee in town). The staff is always super friendly and always ready to refill your cup & check to make everything is good. This is also one of my favorite places because of the homey vibe it has. The wrap around porch is my favorite. This place stays busy so be mindful of the time you go or you might be waiting a while. But it's worth it! read more
Absolutely a 5/5. The space was so inviting. Located in downtown Black Mountain, Louise's is in a renovated Victorian style house. Seating stretches from inside the building, along the wrap around porch onto the lawn. It's like a party you see from a distance and want to be invited to. When you walk in you'll order at the counter, be prepared on the weekends for a short wait - it's worth it. You order and pay at the counter - grab your beverage (alcoholic or not) and they'll bring your food to you. The service was incredibly friendly when I went for brunch on what seemed like the busiest day of the week. Everyone was helpful and patient and didn't seem overwhelmed whatsoever. The food was awesome - they have a large menu, I stuck to the basics but it really impressed me. The potatoes were seasoned and crispy, eggs and bacon cooked well...AND they offered a yummy gluten free bread for toast, which I topped with the homemade jam. Unreal. I also had the best MEGAmosa, trust me it lives up to it's name and is worth double the price they charge! I also tried the grits that my friend ordered and they were absolutely delicious. Everyone loved their orders. Cannot wait to go back! read more
