Adorable little bakery and breakfast spot that is located in a beautiful old house in Black Mountain. We would have never known about it, except after dining at the Red Rocker restaurant. The grounds are lovely and are shaded with large trees and have seating underneath them. There's also an outside patio where customers can enjoy their food. We opted for the seating inside and I had a delicious everything bagel with lox, cream cheese and capers. Dave had eggs, sausage and cheese on an everything bagel too. There was a continuous line of customers buying bakery stuff and getting coffee. The atmosphere is so homey and pleasant that it a pleasure to eat there. read more

I have not been to the home location for Four sisters, but I have tried some of the croissants and their variations a few times around the Asheville area. While some of their pastries look decent, there is something about their Viennoiserie (laminated dough) products that they just seem to not understand. Every one of their croissants I've tried were underproved, which causes an undesirable internal texture that is dense and not open and light like croissants are supposed to be. They are also very "bread like", which shows that they are losing control of the temperature of the dough and butter during the lamination process. This causes the butter to melt into the dough, rather than keeping the intended layers. This is what causes the crumb of the croissant to be more bread like, rather than the light honeycomb structure you find in a well-crafted croissant. Their other products, assorted buns, cinnamon rolls, etc., look decent, but I haven't tried much of those as they aren't really what I enjoy. I hope at some point they can dial in their understanding of the laminated dough process as it would only elevate and improve what they offer. However, they seem to be busy, so they may be fine with delivering a lower quality product in that department. I also understand that my perspective may be different than the average customer as I'm a professional pastry chef and consultant. I'm not sharing this review to be negative, but to give an honest opinion that may spark this establishment to look deeper into their process and find ways to offer even more to their customers. read more

Four Sisters has the best baked goods in the entire Asheville area. Their staff is friendly and efficient. June looks like a rock star and can whip up perfect scrambled eggs. I love this place so much, I even started a neighborhood coffee hour that meets here once a week. It is blissful to sit outside with friends sipping lattes. The only problem is that as the mornings cool, or when it rains, we have to move our coffee group elsewhere because there is not sufficient seating inside and the interior ambiance is greatly lacking. Every time I go in, I can't help but imagine the possibilities. It wouldn't take much to make the inside amazing. This place is so close to being perfect. I keep hoping they'll fix the interior seating situation so our coffee group can continue in our favorite place through the winter. Until then, or spring, whichever comes first, I'll keep checking in and get my croissant and latte to go read more

Everything was awesome! The woman working was very friendly and offered us a sample of the Morning Glory muffins which was awesome and we ended up getting two to go. The cinnamon role is amazing and the coffee good. Very small sitting area but very comfortable. The claw machine that is a guarantee win is not a guarantee, it would not grab anything, but it was a dollar well donated. read more

Highly recommended! In addition to the yummy offerings (more on that later), I was really impressed by the great value relative to other local bakeries in the area. Prices were literally 30-40% lower than some comparable places in Asheville that that I won't name. Where can you still get a bagel with butter for around 2 bucks, a full loaf of artisanal bread for $6 or a large fresh-baked croissant for $4? This place!!! Back to the food, everything we tried was home made, fresh, and delicious. Brownie, spinach and feta croissant, spinach danish, bagel, all yummy. The chicken pot pie was exceptional. I read a few reviewers that gave the place 2 stars apparently just because the cashier didn't kiss their a**. Come on people! The staff was perfectly friendly during our visit but even if they had been sulky it would not have phased me when everything else about the place was stellar. Being a natural born critic, I can almost always identify, shall we say, "opportunities for even more excellence". For me, that opportunity would be the addition of an espresso machine and a Barista to staff it. Coffee seemed to be limited to a couple of thermoses. The coffee was fine, but a place with so many delicious pastries is begging for an equally good latte to pair them with. Space behind the counter looked tight, but it's gotta be possible to squeeze it in. Anyway, you gotta try it! We will definitely be back! read more

OMG. I'm sad that I'm not local but my scale is happy I'm not. I'd certainly have to hike mountains every day to be able to eat the treats from here. They had a special when we were there - flat fee to fill a bag with certain treats. We got the big bag so tried a LOT of things. Huge cinnamon rolls and pecan rolls - both delicious and shareable if you're feeling nice. Two loaves of mystery bread (there was a mix up in the kitchen and they were not sure what flavor they were - win for us!) that both turned out to be walnut and DELICIOUS! We ate one and froze the other. There were croissants, bagels, cookies - all types of bakery things and all super yummy! We also got coffee that was yum too. We split a strawberry rhubarb hand pie after searching this place out. It was good and the environment in this place is really cute. Lots of windows and a big front porch. Went there one more time just to give it a chance. The two girls behind the counter were rude and offered no help or service to my group. They also ignored the problems 4 other people were having with the microwaves. The spoons were dirty and just had been used and came out of the the "clean spoon container". They sure didn't deserve a tip after not thanking us and not helping. Why is your tip screen even on your menu if you don't merit it. I brought guest from out of town, not a good reflection on your business or the community. You have just lost a customer for good. This is definitively a 100% self service place. I am giving Four Sisters 2 stars because I have gone several times and the indifferent service is a huge turn off. I went in recently with a lot of excitement to get one of their very good cinnamon rolls, focaccia and an almond croissant and left a nice tip in the jar, and the young lady serving me acted like she could not be bothered to smile or act friendly. Really recommend that the owner address this problem. Please train your staff to be friendly and helpful and not sulky. read more

A nice spot in Black Mountain right beside the Red Rocker Inn. Snickerdoodle cookies were amazing. I was disappointed that some of the loaves of bread were day-old. We went back to get a breakfast pastry the next day. Purchased two almond croissants which were rich and crispy on the outside. Prices a bit high but worth a visit if you are in Black Mountain. I've eaten at Four Sisters maybe eight times or so and have never been disappointed -- the ladies have always been kind, the food very good, coffee good and, despite it not seating many people, never over-crowded or noisy. Maybe I've been lucky with my timing, and some might say not being crowded says something about a restaurant.... But I say "Ahh, peace...." Finally, I ordered a cheesecake for my wife's birthday. We both love cheesecake and have eaten a lot of different cheesecakes in a lot of places. It's no exaggeration to say the one prepared for us was the best we've had, or at least tied for first. Thankfully, Four Sisters Bakery has remained open during the COVID-19 pandemic... "bread is essential"... and has been a bright spot in Black Mountain, NC. My family regularly orders scones, croissants, delicious pop-tarts and sourdough bread loaves that are enjoyed all week long. Their deli selection of take-away soups and salads is seasonally appropriate and tantalizing in terms of taste. The gluten free chunky chocolate cookie is ridiculously rich and surprisingly free of wheat/all-purpose flour. On top of having incredible baked goods and lunch choices, the service is impeccable. Always trying to please the customer, the people who own and operate the bakery are kind, patient, fun and filled with integrity. They are a small local business that supports other small local businesses, they stand behind their products and also stand for social justice. There is absolutely no reason not to return there when I find my way to Black Mountain. read more

A cute little bakery tucked in next to the Inn. Our Google directions had us very confused--you can't access the bakery from the street address, you have to turn the corner and pull in the drive.
