I had the salted caramel cupcake. I stumbled upon this place after a last minute visit to black mountain. This was surprising one of the best cupcakes I have ever had. First of all, the menu - every cupcake on the menu looked good. Looked like something I would like to order. Second, the couple ahead of me couldn't recommend just one. They recommended the Key Lime, Chocolate, and another one that is escaping my memory right now. I ended up going with the Lavender Honey and the Fred Velvet Cake. Super cute little bakery in Black Mountain. The decor was welcoming and unique. When we walked in, the employee offered us a sample of chocolate frosting. Everyone loved it! We had a group of friends and ordered a Birthday cake cupcake, a Boston creme cupcake, a peanut butter and chocolate cupcake, a vanilla cupcake, and a carrot cake cupcake. The overall consensus was that the cake part of each cupcake was a bit dry. Perhaps they had been baked a few days ago. I picked up 6 cupcakes here while passing through Black Mountain. I got 2 boston cream pies, a vanilla, carrot cake, chocolate with cream cheese frosting, and strawberry cream. The boston cream and strawberry were my personal favorites. I did not eat these immediately (I honestly am shocked myself), so by the time I did the top of the cake was a little dry. Adorable little cupcake shop in downtown Black Mountain! There was a nice variety of flavors from vanilla to super chocolatey to margarita. My son got the cookies and cream and I chose my favorite- red velvet. They were delicious! The owner is very friendly and even let us use the restroom even though it's only meant for employees. I definitely recommend picking up a vintage bottled soda from the hardware store across the street to enjoy with your sweet treat. I tried the pumpkin cream cheese cupcake and it was phenomenal. It was so moist but yet fluffy and full of flavor. The cream cheese icing was not too sweet but it complimented the cupcake very well. I recently ordered a small Boston cream cake from Hey, hey cupcakes, thrilled to find that they offered this type of cake, as my friend had asked for that type especially for her birthday, and I knew that baking one myself was beyond my capabilities. When I picked up the cake, all seemed to be in order - the cake was beautiful, the lettering was neat, and the size was great. Imagine my disappointment when we cut into the cake to find that the filling was not custard, or even a creamy frosting, but a white, thin ordinary frosting - nothing special at all.
