A large group of my co-workers and I went here. From what everyone else told me, the food is very tasty. Sadly, since I did not call ahead to let them know I was a vegetarian (Basque food is meaty), there was very little I could eat. The food that I could eat (salad, fries, bread, and wine) was very good, but I wish they had the capacity to accommodate vegetarians without prior notice. Drove to Reno for the weekend and decided to have dinner here since I was craving a steak! I should have listened to my gut feeling! Horrible horrible horrible service. We were served by a young man, a light skinned, dark hair, horrible attitude, clearly he hates his job and should look into finding a new one, he was rude, and we sat by the kitchen doors, so the eye rolling and the gossiping, yup we aren't blind we seen it. Anyway, the dinner..... Hmmm, so idk if the chef doesn't know how to prepare a steak but it had NO flavor!! I hate asking for A1 steak sauce for a steak, tri tip, or any red meat, since they should already come full of flavor, nope not this place. I took my steak home, and decided to throw it out! this place is not good! They definitely need new management, a new server, and to learn how to prepare a steak. We have been here twice now and both times were excellent!!! Great food, Great service, nice atmosphere and the owners are so nice!! I love that the specials are daily and different meats to choose from. This place has a great full coarse meal menu as well as appatizers. We had chicken wings with dry rub (the best I've had in a long time). Full course meal was salad, beans, bread, soup, rabit, steak, french fries, wine and desert.....delicious!!! We went last night for dinner. Our waiter was terrible, he didn't explain the menu, he rushed us in taking our order and he rushed us through dinner. Dinner was ok, I don't think it is worth $25 a person. I ordered my lamb chops medium rare and they were medium. My nephew ordered his steak medium and it was rare. The only redeeming person in the restaurant was the bus boy. He was attentive, made sure that we always had water and tried to not rush us. I have had Basque food before and if this is what Reno calls good Basque, I feel sorry for them. Next time I was Basque, I will make the drive to Gardnerville. read more

My only critique is that since it was my first experience I wasn't knowledgeable on how things worked and how to order. MAKE RESERVATIONS....my boyfriend had made them thank goodness. But we did not get sat until about 15-20 minutes after our reservation time. Food was really good. My steak was cooked perfectly. My boyfriend had the lamb chops and they were good as well. Salad was a bit to be desired, but the veggie soup was awesome. We went on a Saturday night so it was busy and very noise. The food was good but nothing special. I was disappointed with the special Basque beer, it's just Budweiser with a shot of liqueur in it. The worst part was the service. We were one of two tables there for lunch and felt extremely uncomfortable the entire time. The server acted like he had better things to do and was extremely inconvenienced when we asked for refills on water. The cooks and busser stood in the doorway to the kitchen just staring at us almost the entire time as if they couldn't wait for us to leave. Will never go back. read more

Our friends just bought a house in Reno, so we needed to visit & give it our stamp of approval, lol. Anyway, they took us to Louis' and it was awesome! These friends of ours hunt everything that moves, so it was nothing but fun & games when they seated a group of guys, who were in town from Kansas for the Archery Convention, @ our table. The conversation was lively, the food & drink terrific. I'm a vegetarian who will eat sea food in a pinch, the shrimp was super good. The rest of our group had lamb . . . they LOVED it! Ok im gonna say this straight up. This place has some of the best tongue I have had in my life. I love the texture and the taste of it, they just do absolutely heavenly things to it to make it taste so god-like. I went there about 2 weeks ago and I was greeted by a long time friend and he introduced the tongue to me. I cannot thank him enough for it. I brought some home in a carry-out box and fed the remaining tongue (and testicle) to my dog, Jebadiah, he seemed to just absolutely adore these things. 5/5 -IGN definitely has the best lickers in town. read more

With all the good reviews for Louis', I am disappointed with the food. I ordered lamb chops; 2 small pieces came, one was half fat and half bone. A small portion of the other piece was tender but not even their steak knife was sharp enough to slice through the rest of it. I was also shocked that, a meal with no entrée costs $20 because every course is buffet style for your group. But for one who eats small portions, the meal is not worth $20. Another $4 would have given a main course. This is the place if you want to stuff yourself, but not if you want quality. read more

For anyone traveling in Central California and the great basin states (especially Idaho and Nevada), eating at Basque Restaurants is one of the great regional travel experiences. Louis Basque Corner is very typical. Seating is done family style, so if you're alone or in a small group you're liable to be seated at a table with strangers. Oddly, this is part of the fun-people tend to be friendly and it's easy to strike up conversation. The customers tend to be eclectic. I swear I've eaten with college students, local farmers, and mobsters. They were all, however, always friendly. The food is wonderful. It's basically comfort food (steaks, French fries) with a whiff of the exotic. All sides are served family style...soup, beans, French fries, rice dishes, salads....It's basically all you can eat of side dishes-there's never an excuse to leave hungry. It does pay, however, to pace yourself. The starters and side dishes are usually so good that it's possible to fill up before the arrival of the main course. Complementary wine is served with the dinner. It's ended with a simple desert (ice cream/dry jack cheese), also complementary. To sum it up, a great place for a big meal, and a truly "local" Reno experience. read more

My mommy took me here. She wanted to find us a big plate of French Fries down town. We wanted to go somewhere fun and interesting since mommy is a fancy pants. I was so disappointed! I was very excited to try Louis basque especially after reading a lot of good reviews. The bread was stale, the pre-dinner was mediocre at best. My husband's steak was cold by the time we finally got the steak sauce. To give you an idea how bland and tasteless my dinner was it is the first time I threw away more than half of a filet mignon. Let me start out by saying the food and wine were very good, I enjoyed it immensely. However, it was extremely crowded with tables too close together. I had my back up against the back wall and without having to ask everyone in my row to move so I could use the restroom, I sat there uncomfortable the entire meal. As much as I enjoyed the food, it was too loud to carry on a conversation. My recommendation would be to remove a row of tables so there is more elbow room. A group of us had dinner here 4/22/18. We were concerned about the large number of courses and initially wanted to see if we could order from the bar menu but that was not possible. But since the food is served family style each diner could take as much or as little as desired. We had a split pea soup starter which was well seasoned. A green salad followed. I antiicpated the bean course and they were nicely cooked with small chunks of pork. Then we had braised beef tongue with tomatoes Then the individual courses followed. I had roast lamb cooked medium rare others had shrimp in a cream sauce. Overall due to the family style serving, the dishes seemed to have been prepared a little too far in advance. No truly fresh vegetables accompanied the dishes which is why I rated this restaurant at three stars read more

We came here with a party of 12. Incredible service and food! The ambience is wonderful with an exposed pipe and brick look. With your entree you get salad, beans, chicken and rice, bread, soup, dessert, and red wine. Specialties include lamb, steak, pork, sweetbreads, shrimp and more. Entrees are cooked to order and come to the table hot and quickly. I cannot stress enough what a wonderful evening we had. I can't wait until our next visit. read more

The Rabbit Stew was great. I did not know it was a family diner type, but it was great the soup, beans and salad before the main Rabbit. My wife and sister had chicken. we all had to take half of the meal home as it was plenty. When we return to Reno It will be the first place to eat. read more

Louie's is a marvelous Basque restaurant in Reno. I have eaten at basque restaurant 's in several states, Louie's is the best. Outstanding vegetable soup, fresh French bread and the best French fries you will ever eat. Incredible appetizer's like tongue, sweet breads and many more all prepared to perfection. All entries from lamb to shrimp our seasoned and served hot and delicious. I love the dry Jack cheese from Ponderosa meats served for dessert. The cold red wine is so very tasty. Open for lunch and dinner. Every meal is great. Try a Picon punch for your tasty pleasure. read more

Basque food and traditions have been apart of Reno since the 1860's, spreading their colorful culture and wonderful food all over the surrounding areas. Louis' Basque has become on of Reno's staples for authentic and yummy Basque food. I was there last night for an office Christmas party, so didn't have the usual dining experience. Served was a fantastic barley vegetable soup, followed by a crisp salad, with the first course being stewed chicken with tomatoes, bell pepper, and onions. We had our choice between prime rib or sliced lamb. I went with the prime ribs, which was of huge portions, and I also had a mini slice of lamb because I had never had lamb before and wanted to try a bit instead of committing to a full plate. Everything was delicious and the meal was finished off with ice cream and hot fudge topping. The service was wonderful and seamless. Staff did a wonderful job of taking care of about 30 rowdy employees who had been sampling Picon Punches at the bar earlier. If you have not visited here yet, it is about high time you did. read more

Found this restaurant after reading an article on an airline magazine and decided to try it. It is truly a great place to eat. The oxtail was delicious and my steak was rare just like I requested. Strange conversations are had while in transit - a 2 minute conversation lead me to really want to try this place. Finally got to go and though I was a little prepared for the seating, the place still surprised me. The food is delicious. If you are seated with another group that previously ordered, you will not be sharing the feast of the meal that will be given to you. We were just two little ladies (at least we like to think we're ladies) ordering up paella (w/mussles, shrimp, chicken, and sausage), unaware (i should have read yelp first right?) that the dish came with noodle soup, lamb stew, salad, bread, beans, bunch of fries, and a decanter of red wine. All for a decent price of $25/ person. The atmosphere is ...hmm... not for everyone I suppose. We had to walk through a gaggle of men watching baseball at the bar area and booing the dodgers (those bastards!!) before getting to the dining area. Got seated right next to three travelers and after getting used to the fact that I had to talk to strangers, it was pretty pleasant.
