Brisket Wrap & Sweet Potato Fries.
Louis P.

I was here this evening. I had the brisket wrap and sweet potato fries. It was probably one of the best wraps I've had with an amazing flavour. The Sweet potato fries I had with it were quite tasty as well. It was quiet on a Sunday night. I wouldn't mind checking it out when it's busier just to see how it's like.

Back of the rib.

The parking lots is usually full, but there is free street parking across the road. Just drive around and see where everyone is parking. The smokehouse has large seating on the ground floor and event space on the upper. There are lots of tables and booths to seat any party size, they also take reservations. We went with 6 people and all around us were groups. The main area seems to be able to sit 50+ at least. Service staff are great, they refill and provide all the containers you'll need to get going. We ordered the Family Deal and couldn't finish. Most people have take out bags when they leave. It's that type of place. - we got the 1 lb pulled pork, 6 smoked chicken wings, beef brisket, and full rack of ribs - mac & cheese, red beans & rice, dilly coleslaw - sweet potato fries, and tater tots It took about 30+ mins for the food to come out since they needed to put everything together. We finished maybe 40% of it. The rest were another two meals at home. Over the years, the price has gone up considerably, but the quality and quantity is still a great value. Definitely bring a group and any visitors from out of town. From previous visits their pig tails, sausage are also great. My favorite is the ribs, mac & cheese, red beans & rice, and the tater tots though. Definitely will need to try their fried chicken and Back of House pizza (attached outside for takeout only) next time.

The smoked wings are our favorite as well as the Mac and cheese! The platters are huge and can feed a whole family. The brisket sandwich is also very tender and so much food. The only downside is the prices have gone up a lot over the years so it's definitely a spot for special occasions.

I'd been excited to try out Captain's Boil since hearing great things about its Toronto locations…read more We came in on Easter Sunday, so it was pretty empty. This restaurant is unique for its serving style - if you order individual seafood, you eat with your hands from plastic bags. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that we were able to keep ourselves relatively clean. We ordered a pound of mussels with garlic sauce, crawfish with lemon pepper sauce, and a fish teriyaki dish with seafood assortment. I loved the garlic sauce, as it gave the mussels a great kick. I wouldn't recommend the crawfish, as they don't have much meat. I felt like I was just nibbling the shells for the sauce. However, the fish teriyaki was a solid choice. Overall, it was a filling and tasty meal, and it came out to less than $20 per person. With so few customers in the restaurant, service was relatively prompt, but I would recommend more frequent water refills, as the sauces were quite salty. We had to personally wave over the waitress in order to get water. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend Captain's Boil if you enjoy seafood like I do. Glad they opened up in London!

The restaurant is much larger than it appears from the outside. Once you head through the first dining room and down the steps, you're greeted by a warm, homey dining room with a surprisingly spacious bar. It has a comfortable neighborhood feel, and the staff was friendly throughout our visit. Our cocktails arrived in about 10 minutes, and the hush puppies followed about 20 minutes later. They had a nice flavor, but were much denser and chewier than I expected. The bigger issue was the wait for our entrees. With the restaurant not appearing particularly busy, nearly 50 minutes for fried chicken and jerk chicken felt excessive. The good news? The chicken absolutely delivered! Both the fried chicken and the jerk chicken were packed with flavor and easily stole the show. The fried chicken was crispy and juicy, while the jerk had a wonderful balance of seasoning and spice. Those dishes alone made the meal worthwhile. Unfortunately, my mashed potatoes arrived warm instead of hot. After such a long wait, I was hoping everything would come out piping hot, and that side just missed the mark. Cole slaw was fresh but pretty boring in the flavor department. I really wanted this to be the five-star experience that so many others have had. While this visit didn't quite live up to the hype, the quality of the chicken showed why Pineapple Eddie's has earned such a loyal following. We'll happily give them another shot someday and hope they earn that elusive fifth star.

We attended a monster truck show at the speedway up the road- what better way to cap it than with some BBQ! Ok- this was a slow Sunday at 4pm, and this is a very small town. Kudos to the owners for operating this outpost. We were basically the only people in the joint. Beer selection was limited (mainly due to much of it not being in the fridges), but it was nice they had juice boxes for the little pitmasters. Really should have ordered one of the platters- oh but wife wanted a sandwich lol... Well they come with bread as they should in Texas!! Anyways, my main disappointment was that my brisket was just pulled brisket. In Texas (God's Country), not only will the brisket be served sliced, but at the better places the offer your fatty (point) or lean (flat). The pulled brisket here was still fairly flavourful and well seasoned, but still it's like being served leftovers. For pulled pork, it's cool, brisket I'm not impressed. Sides were ok. Slaw- standard. I like it a little creamier not bad still. Potato salad was good! Cowboy beans also really true to Texas flavour. Being a slow Sunday- service was basically high school kids. News flash- this isn't a good thing. It may as well have been serve yourself. Would give it maybe one more shot- full platter and on a busier day. That being said I wouldn't drive from Windsor especially for it (Slows in Detroit is the benchmark), but I'm rooting for this place and would surely visit again if I was in the area!

However I am surprised that there is sauce as i have known Texas as dry rub bbq. Pulled pork was typical, ok. A no on sides. Tried cowboy beans and potato salad (half potatoes were still hard). I love that their menu has some Greek flair such as souvlakis. You gotta try their beef brisket because it is sooo tender and super delicious AND they don't charge to add brisket to your platter-which in my books is a bonus. The chicken is super succulent and the pulled pork is beyond flavourful. They've been featured in You Gotta Eat here, and I can definitely see why! The service was fantastic from the moment we walked in the door until we left. Our waitress, Diana, was fabulous the whole time we were there. The food was a different story unfortunately. The meat itself was really nicely cooked, tender and tasty. Where it lacked was in the sauce - I was hoping for that through and through saucy dripping tender meat, but was left with just a pile of pulled pork and some BBQ sauce dumped on top. Not a lot of depth in flavor. I got REALLY excited when I saw Mac n Cheese as an option for a side, but was incredibly disappointed in it. It was watery and SO bland. Kraft Dinner was gourmet in comparison. It might have been the worst mac I've ever tasted, not even black pepper or ketchup could save it for me. My boyfriend got a similar meal but with coleslaw and cornbread on the side as well. Coleslaw he said was so-so, and I tasted the cornbread which was good but 99% sure it's store bought. Overall, probably wouldn't return unless it's to buy just meat.
