Maybe 20min into my massage, the front desk girl (who also happened to be the one doing my massage) needed to answer the customer who had just come in. This happened TWO MORE TIMES, not to mention she was answering calls while doing my massage. The massage was good, I was just disappointed that it kept getting interrupted. At the end of the massage, I tipped her $7 and my friend tipped her person $10. She told me "no no, you give me $10." I said no, I give you $7. We went back and forth. I thought it was pretty outlandish for her to expect an "excellent" tip when 8min of my 60min experience was wasted by her. This time I went with my mom on December and it was really unpleasant. The usual nice guy at the front door was not there, either any of the usual massage people that do a great job. They didn't look very excited about it and were trying to call someone else on the phone. When I said that I wanted 2 one hour massage, they changed their mind and decided that they would do it themselves. As usual you paid at the beginning, and it was more expensive than it was the mo the before. The massage was terrible, not the regular good massage at this place. It was made worse because they kept talking and laughing among themselves, which made it imposible to relax. Then at the end, even as we didn't like it, and could enjoy it, I gave them $10 as a tip for each. Then they started to yell that the sign said that for one hour we should tip $15 per person no $10. I told them that it say "digested tip", and that them requiring it at the end is not what the idea of "tip" meant. They were almost yelling at me, and not to make it more unpleasant I gave them the extra money. It all felt wrong, because the whole experience was substandard. The people who used to be there were always nice and very good, which I normally gave a bigger tip and told them that I liked their job, but the two ladies were rude and kind of suck at it. During that month they were down on Yelp, and as the place was kind of weirdly empty I though that maybe they sold the old good place. I've gone to this place a few times now and I can say that everyone who works there could use a therapeutic massage class lesson. A massage should be skin to skin touch that is rhythmic, therapeutic and healing; meaning it should feel good most of the time. Most of the time it feels like these therapists are massaging your bones rather than your tissue. It feels awkward and unpleasant. Overall it feels like the therapists don't enjoy what they do. The female massage therapists do not put any effort into the massage. And they don't seem to want to touch your skin. Some even wear latex gloves when they massage you. Or they cover you in towels and massage you through that and it gets lint all over your clothes. If you are scared to touch people's skin, find a different profession. The male therapists give an appropriate amount of effort, but again, it feels like my bones are being worked (and bruised at times) and not my muscles or tissue. I really think the male therapists have great potential and I would like to see this place thrive. Please make improvements. And don't ask people to pay and tip upfront. Chinese massage places have a bad reputation of having bad customer service and being shady. I have ran into a couple myself. Not this place though! The owner is super nice and the employees says he treats them well too which is much more than I can say about a lot of other places that I've been too. For full body massages, I recommend Michael or Lily if they are available. For foot massages, you should be good with anyone. At least I haven't gone wrong. I have gone in with foot stress injuries, wrist injuries, and back pain. The masseuse are super good at really spending the time to untie those knots and making you feel like a million bucks. IMPORTANT NOTE on how to tip at Chinese massage places - Chinese massage places generally charge at half the price than most other places. Dropped by for a Foot Massage the other day after detailing my car down the street. The venue was empty upon arrival and had to walk all the way inside to find an employee. The signage referred to a $19.99/hr foot massage whereas signage by the reception area suggested a Buy 6 Get 1 Free for $20/hr. An employee suggested the "Special" Foot Massage for $25 which would include a shoulder massage sitting up... The massage parlor is typical with a row of ~8 foot massage chairs along with 4 more private curtained rooms for full body massages. Massage started off with the standard head, shoulder, and hand massage for a good 15 minutes while my feet were dipped in warm water. The foot massage was next with the masseuse wearing gloves and massaging my feet. The highlight of the massage was the back massage which was quite good pressure-wise considering that I was clothed and the masseuse put a towel over me too. My experience at this massage place was awful. I called ahead to book an appointment for two, my friend and i. The place itself was fine, the massage was average, but the service was the WORST i've ever experienced with a foot massage. First of all, my friend and i were started at the same time in terms of being given a bed. However, my actual massage wasn't started until much later because of there was a problem with the masseuse, so there had to be a swap arranged (while I was already laying down and waiting). The masseuse that they swapped with wasn't very attentive as he kept going back to the front to check at the desk almost every few minutes. At times, he would leave me there for minutes to attend to another customer (hearing them talking from the lobby a few feet away). After he "finished" my arms, I had to wait almost 10 minutes to continue my massage. And thus, ANOTHER masseuse change because the masseuse who came to finished out the rest of my massage was a woman (not the same woman who gave me the water bucket and laid blankets down on me and definitely not the man with the poor head and arm massage). And so with all the waiting, I fully expected to have finished a lot later than my friend (for it's only fair that we both paid an hour for a massage and to ACTUALLY get massaged for an hour--not waiting almost half the time to get massaged). However, when the time came to it, we were both ended at the same time. And the time frame in which this all happened was ALSO under an hour. So to say i was very disappointed with his place is an understatement. I felt the need to ask for my money back once it ended, but my friend and I both were rushed out of the building. This place has had at least two owners. It has been "Lotus" since 2013, previously was "Relax"), I thought it had improved with 2nd owner, but now not so sure. I would rather drive a bit further to any of the other places in town. Typically the front desk is unattended, when an employee appears from the back it is impossible to communicate as it seems none of them speak even rudimentary English and my Mandarin is limited to 'ni hao' and ' xièxie'. A few months ago my attempt to purchase a gift certificate for hubby was a frustrating and unsuccessful experience which involved lots of hand gestures, her looking at the clock putting up two fingers, me speaking louder (that always helps) pointing to the 'gift certifcate' promo on the sandwich board in front of the place; I gave up. There many other foot massage places, I would give this one a miss. It is still a mystery to me where they find these 'therapists'; better not to ask I guess. (FYI - California does not require state certification or licensure of reflexologists). In any case, if price is your most important criteria this place is the cheapest around, today saw a sign outside $17 foot massage (you get what you pay for). They have a row of about 8 massage chairs that are pretty comfortable, but the one my husband was on was super SQUEAKY which prevented us from relaxing. My issue with this place is that when I requested Peter one day prior to another massage, I was told no problem. I arrive and I'm told that Peter is out for the day.
