I so wanted to like this place, but... The best part here are the margaritas. Those are great. Alas the food is basically meh. Not much flavor, just rather bland altogether. I tried a Toastaguac with beef and a chicken quesadilla. I would not order/eat either of those again. My guest ordered the #20 and was equally disappointed. The service was pretty much non-existent , so this made for an overall mediocre at best experience. Don't think we'll be back.

Saw a post about this place and it claimed to have Birria tacos but fyi they DO NOT! The service was great and the food was okay. I got the arroz con pollo and boyfriend got the burritos. The best part was the 22$ strawberry frozen margaritas and the nachos with shredded chicken. Very flavorful. Be careful because these plates are HOT! Over all good. Spent about 70$ plus tip.

Shrimp al cilantro cream .... Amazing

We came for Cinco de Mayo and this place was extremely busy. I thought the food and drink was good and plan to return soon.

Outstanding Mexican food. Truly, some of the best Mexican food I've eaten in Indiana so far. And…read moreTlahcos is located in Plainfield, of all places. What a pleasant surprise! I got the quesa birria tacos, which is shredded beef and melted cheese in a double corn tortilla. They come three to an order, with a cup of red consomme to dip them into, and a couple of lime wedges to squeeze over everything. They do not come with any sides, so I ordered the refried pinto beans and carrot rice, because I really wanted some rice and beans. Beans and rice are my litmus test of any Mexican restaurant, and I'm happy to say that the rice and beans at Tlahcos passed the test with flying colors, and they are sublime. I don't practice Santeria, but perhaps the people at Tlahcos do, because their food is bewitching. The carne asada was also ordered, and it came with grilled nopales (cactus), cebollita canbray (little onions), grilled panela cheese, plus guacamole, salsa, rice and black beans. It was a 98%, and what would have raised it to a 100% was if it came with tortillas. But really, it was a great dish! If you're a person who is used to eating carne asada on a regular basis, you will be satisfied with this one. Chips and salsa are complimentary, which shows that Tlahcos knows its Plainfield-area visitors. My children, who eat like birds, filled themselves up on chips and salsa and declined a full meal, but Tlahcos does have a kids menu. On the kids menu, you'll find arroz con pollo, mini cheese quesadillas, a taco, mac & cheese, chicken nuggets and a mini pizza. Kid meals come with your choice of side, which are fries, rice & beans or a cup of fruit. They have a full cocktail list, as well as beer, wine and hot beverages (coffee and tea). I got a Paloma, which was a little light on the booze, but tasty nevertheless. The rim of the glass was beautifully decorated with Tajin, which added a nice, spicy kick. It was one of those drinks that makes you want to lick the glass.

The drinks are great. I have had the Birria tacos, the guacamole, the refried beans, and black beans, as well as multiple food options. Seriously, I have taken clients here as well as family. My most recent experience was still great, but there are two items I would never order off the menu. Let's look at the good and bad of these items: Baja Fish Tacos- I was looking for the cabbage-filled delicacies that are light but flavorful. What I received appeared to be small fish sticks stuck into a tortilla. The cabbage and sauce were tasty, but they could not mask the main cause of the tacos' failure: the fish. Do not order these. Ceviche Yucatan- looking for flavor with the light ceviche? That is not what this is. This is a large portion of ceviche dressed in a sweet sauce that completely overpowers it. Not even sure that you can call it a ceviche at this point. But the portion was good, and the ceviche ingredients looked fresh. Otherwise, we had the house guac, which was so so good, the birria tacos, which were amazing with the sauce as usual, the fundido, which was flavorful cheese and chorizo, as well as the Zapopan, which was a wonderful fusion of mango and spice (who knew bacon in this would be great). Housemade Horchata is great, not too sweet and flavorful as well as the Rita margarita! GREAT. Overall, a great night, some great food, and I will be back, but I will just not order the two items discussed above! PROS: Great flavors and food Good seating Good service Parking garage or street parking, easy CONS: Smaller actual bar top area

We stopped in for Sunday lunch and to watch the afternoon football game. Inside, the dining room is a mix of booths and tables. There is a full bar on one side. We were told to sit anywhere. The salsa is really good with lots of sweet tomato chunks and spices. I had the Taco Salad with shredded chicken. The salad came in a fried tortilla bowl. The generous portion of chicken was moist and flavorful. The guac topping was delicious. My husband had the lunch special Chimichanga with ground beef. His plate was huge and colorful with pico, rice, beans and a cheesy covered chimichanga. The food is a step above your average Mexican restaurant. They offer daily drink specials (beer and margarita). I was tempted, but it was just too early in the day. They also have a kid's menu. There is plenty of parking in the strip mall lot and the restaurant is fully accessible. I recommend and will return.
