I first visited while I was in the area with my best friend, who is also half Argentinian like me and does modeling as a hobby. She had just finished another successful photoshoot on the Eastside of Los Angeles, made great connections, and got some amazing content. It was getting late, and we wanted to start heading back home toward the freeway, but we were starving. We both love food and get the munchies now and then, but we also wanted to celebrate her latest milestone, so I suggested La Casita Mexicana. The ambiance was like stepping into a little casita in Mexico -- bright, colorful, vibrant, and welcoming. The staff were friendly, too. We tried an appetizer and shared the Enchiladas Tres Moles. Granted, I've never had truly authentic mole, but I've had versions of mole that were not good. The mole here, however, was out of this world delicious. Even the mole that came with the dinner chips as their "salsa mole" was fantastic. I remember thinking, I feel like I'm experiencing Michelin-star-level food in the middle of the LA barrio. And honestly, that's the beauty of the barrio. There are culinary diamonds all over Los Angeles -- you just have to give them a chance and be willing to try somewhere new. I've since returned with my boyfriend, and the food has never disappointed. For a little personal context, I'm half Argentinian and half Mexican. Although the Mexican side of my family is from Guadalajara and Sonora, I didn't grow up eating Jalisco-style cuisine, so exploring different regional Mexican cooking has been especially fun for me. It's always interesting discovering flavors and traditions that are part of my own heritage but weren't necessarily part of my upbringing. La Casita Mexicana is definitely one of those places I'm glad I ventured out for -- and another successful Eat the World LA discovery.

The chorizo was a bit too salty for my taste, but the cecina more than made up for it and honestly was my favorite of the three. The carne asada was solid too, cooked just right and full of flavor. Before the food even came out, they brought us chips with mole, and those were perfect on their own, a worthy palette opener while we waited! Service was great the entire meal, our server checked in often without hovering and made the whole experience feel special. For a birthday dinner with the family, it was just right.

It's rare that a soup has me hitting a stank face, but here we are. The Camarones al mojo de ajo is a can't miss appetizer. It's succulent shrimp sauteed in butter and fresh garlic, made to be eaten with the piping hot homemade tortillas. They have all the traditional Mexican dishes, my brothers go to is the chile relleno, but I always just run the fajitas. I'm sure I'll get clowned for this, but nothing heals my trauma and existential dread like a plate of sizzling fajitas. My pops has worked in the area for longer than I've been alive, so El Ranchito has seen every iteration of me, and of my family. For that, I am grateful. The meatballs are tender and have a perfect flavor profile of herbs and spice. Honestly, nothing disappoints here. The Pollo in Mole is also delicious. The tortillas are fresh and hand made. The Pollo con Rajas is creamy, cheesy, flavorful and the chicken has always been juicy underneath all that sauce, cooked perfectly. I've also had the teak tacos and they're filling, tasty, and a perfectly compliment to anything you will order. The sides are usually rice and beans and they've always been perfect. The rice is soft and the beans are addicting. Javier is always warm and friendly, he does an amazing job with his restaurant. He tends to his patrons wonderfully and deserves all praise, as well as his staff. They compliment the small dining area and make you feel like you're eating at home or with family. I chalk it up to ordering the wrong items. The flavors did not pop for me. Hubby opted for the chorizo and he said it was decent and he described it as "diet chorizo"--that he'd probably needed to go back to Sinaloa to capture the true essence of "real" chorizo, the way it's meant to be. We have been coming to Los pollos for about 30 years. In the past few years service has been horrible. We put phone orders and they never have our order ready on time. Today I placed an order in advance for 6 chickens and told them to please have them ready at 3:30pm. It was 3:50pm and the order was still not ready plus Zoraida or something like that wanted me to make line. I told her what is the point of my phone order if it's not ready and you still want me to make line behind 8 people. She decided to argue with me in front of all the customers and said I had to make line. My order was an hour late already. I decided to cancel my order of 6 chickens and I'm cancelling this spot for good. It is disappointing that the owner hasn't done anything about the rude cashier even though many people have complained about her. She literally acts like she is the owner and doesn't know how to treat customers. read more

I added two more sides - as there were three teenage boys, two daughters, my grandson, his wife, my sister and I. I wanted no one to go without. The order also included a variety of homemade salsas and some fantastic spicy, pickled onions! The additional sides were macaroni salad, a tossed salad and a smaller portion of beans. Everyone was hungry when we arrived and so the before picture taking got neglected. Everyone commented on the juiciness and tastiness of the chicken and the sides and wanted to know where I got it. They were surprised at how close it was to their home and that they had been unaware of it. The quality reminded me of rotisserie chickens served in Tijuana sixty years ago and of El Pollo Loco when it first arrived in California forty/fifty years ago. The staff was pleasant and explained things well. I felt quite welcomed n this small strip mall location. If you are in Lynwood - either passing through or staying - please patronize this restaurant.
