I've came here since I was a little girl. The service & food has always been on point! These ladies becomes like friends and family if you become a regular. The rice and beans are truly authentic and can compare to Your Mom or Grandmas homemade cooking. My go to is always the Carne Asada Tacos. Tried the Pozole today and it was Delicious!! I tend to be critical towards Mexican Dishes due my entire Mom and family's cooking. This place will definitely make you feel at home and fulfill that Authentic Dish Craving.

Went to Los Petates for lunch today. This little family run 'hole-in-the-wall' place has been in East LA since 1989 (maybe even 87 if I correctly overheard another customer). It's not fancy, it's not big. It just about the food. Los Petates is honestly some of the best Mexican food I have eaten. Everything is authentic and homemade. you can taste the freshness in every bite - right down to the corn-chips, and spicy salsas.

    Costillas en Chile Verde!!!!

This place was recommended to me by the mechanic that was working on my car. I also had spotted this place on my Yelp app. It was a short walk away from the mechanic's shop. They first serve you corn chips with a green and red salsa. The red salsa was hot :( H.O.T. I tell you :( The green salsa was just right and had great flavor too! I ordered the Costillas en Chile Verde (Ribs in Green Chile Sauce). The sauce was SPOT ON!!!! It was just right in the spicy department too. The beans were superb and the rice was really good too! Truly authentic guisado - just like the mechanic had said. Portions are great. Not too much and not too little. My only issue and this robs them of one star is that the meat was not half as tender as it should be. Well, there is also the fact they are CASH ONLY :( The place has simple decor but they try to make it nice. Service is friendly but kind of slow. However, they were nice enough to let me stay and watch TV for a while. This was a godsend as I had to wait for my car to get fixed this day. They even gave me the control. You can park free in front of the restaurant. Parking may be an issue at some times of the day. They do not have a lot as far as I know. Based on their authentic guisados I am a fan. Four stars!

Among all the other things they didn't give us,they made sure to add a nice long curly tasty brown hair to my meal.

I'm so upset that these ppl are so careless. First we ordered our food with guacamole, they ran out.. ok fine add avocado to the meals. Did they? No. We ordered chips, were they given to us? No. Extra green sauce, nope only one. And to top it all off they add a nice long curly brown strand of hair to completely ruin my meal. I will never eat here ever again.

    Nice

Great menudo, other foods are good too. Horchata and agua de tamarindo are tasty. Service is a bit slow, but food is hot and fresh.

We kicked things off with the queso fundido, and wow, it was absolutely delicious! Rich, melty, and packed with flavor, it was the perfect way to start the evening. For my entrée, I ordered the cochinita pibil, which was incredibly tender and saucy in the best way. My husband ordered the short rib, and it was perfectly cooked and full of flavor. On the side, we shared the papas bravas and esquite, both of which complemented our dishes perfectly. The drinks truly elevated the night. My husband and I both love mezcal, and Kateen delivered. I ordered the Valentine's Day "Zona Romántica," which featured mezcal and wine almost like a sangria, but completely unique and beautifully balanced. My husband had the "Gypsy Fever," also mezcal-based, and it was smoky, smooth, and refreshing. Between the food, cocktails, and ambiance, it made for such a romantic and memorable evening. We'll absolutely be back!!

This time, we decided to give it another shot since it has so many good reviews, and I'm glad we did. The ambiance was much better, with nice Tulum-style vibes and music that really set the mood. From the moment we walked in, service was great. We were greeted and seated right away thanks to our reservation. Our waitress, Brenda, was friendly, attentive, and super helpful in explaining the menu and recommending drinks. She checked in often and made sure everything came out quickly. The food was good overall, though the menu is a bit limited if you don't eat meat or seafood. I was especially looking forward to the fish tacos, but it seems like they've been removed from the menu. One thing I really appreciated was the mocktail options. Perfect if you're not drinking but still want something fun. The Wes Colada is a great pick if you like piña colada type drinks, though it is on the sweeter side. The michelada was also really well done, with a nice balance of savory and sour. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this spot for a date night or a girls' night out.

Now when you pull up originally you might think, "am I in the right place" but once you park and get into the courtyard, it is LOVELY! Amazing ambience! There is a bocce set up, string lights. It is a little slice of oasis in the middle of the fashion district. The restaurant itself - beautiful. I couldn't ask for more. Absolutely perfect in my book. Beautiful plants hanging, perfect Spanish music in the background (any place playing Natalia LaFourcade is a win). The drinks were great! I had the jungle bird which was fun. Food was so good too. The whipped beans are the star! We had the guacamole which was tasty, great tostadas with it. The arepas were good but the pork belly was a little too fatty (I know pork belly is always fatty) to the point the fat muted the flavored for the arepa a bit, but still delicious. The empanadas were great and as someone who lived in South America and ate empanadas every day, these really took me back to my Paraguay days. The squash blossoms were light and perfectly fried. Unfortunately my friends had gone to Funke the night before so they were comparing the squash blossoms and Funke won out, but they still liked Dama's! Small plates were enough for the 3 of us. The service was quick and attentive. Parking was easy for us. I will definitely be back!

My favorite thing about these burritos is how "home-made" they are, the salsas and meats are fresh and taste like they came out of an abuelitas kitchen. I still need to try the crunchy tacos and nachos which look great, I recommend trying this classic establishment at least once if you're in the area.
