But today I called in to put in an order for pickup, the lady who answered opened the conversation with "Give me a moment" then I heard her put the phone down. I waited for 10 minutes. She never came back. I hung up. Tried to call for the next 20 minutes, and it went straight to their lack of voice mail. Allow me to start by saying that this most recent experience was far, far less enjoyable than that of the prior visit. The last encounter was pleasurable with great service and great food served promptly and with pleasure. The visit on 7/27 was diametrically opposite in some very bad areas. The dining room was very warm and, when queried to the server, she simply stated that the A/C is on and stated such in a somewhat snarky manner. Perhaps the business was experiencing A/C issues, which is understandable in this area at this time of year but this could have been explained better. The restrooms were abominable with one completely out of order and the second filthy beyond belief. This was brought to the attention of the staff but no response was offered and no management personnel made themselves known. The food, by comparison, was well below the prior visit. Two dishes were not prepared as requested and, when relayed to the server, was responded to with nothing more than an "Oh". Again, no manager presence. This occurred with one dish where onions were asked to be omitted and another dish where green sauce was requested on the side but, instead, a "dollop" was on top of a burrito and the $1.50 for the sauce remained. On a Taco Salad, the components therein were up to standards but the taco shell seemed to be way older than shelf life and tasted rancid. The server declined to break off a piece for their own taste (understandable) and, yet again, no manager interaction. The taco salad also remained on our bill. Prior to this visit a recommendation would have been offered without any doubt. Now, the doubt has shifted as to whether any further return visits are in the future. read more

They have some really great dishes on the menu if you look past the usual items wrapped in tortillas. Their Caldo de Res (beef soup) is really great and a huge serving. The Molajete fajita bowl is also another huge serving and it comes sizzling and bubbling hot in an actual volcanic rock bowl which keeps it piping hot and makes for a really nice eating experience. They do have some drink specials here but you do have to monitor the drink strength as it varies depending on who is making them and sometimes they can be on the weak side. I sampled their gigantic huge super sized margarita which is larger than my head but I found it to be EXTREMELY weak so make sure to let your server know if you got "unlucky" in the booze department. I have been here several times and NEVER had bad customer service. Just left and Mercy M was my server and she never checked on me. I had to called her more than once for a to go box and my receipt. When I was getting ready to pay, I told her that she had bad customer service skills because she never checked on me, asked if the food was good, nothing, and she rolled her eyes at me. I'm not a fan of this place. This was my second visit and I just don't dig the food. The meat is not savory and carne asada is not tender. The barbacoa was okay but I can't say I love the food. I ordered the chicken flautas lunch, which, according to the menu, comes with rice, beans, guacamole salad, and sour cream. My coworker picked up the order, and was told that everything was there. However, they had entirely forgotten the guacamole salad and sour cream. In all fairness, I was not able to give them the opportunity to remedy this, as it wasn't realized until the coworker brought the food back to the office. Unfortunately, the food was also very bland and under-salted. Had it been more flavorful, I might not have missed the missing items. Los Panchos is the best Mexican food on the Westbank. Located on Terry Parkway near the Roaring 20's bar (check it out, trust me), half of the restaurant was once a Popeye's. Don't let that turn you off because the dining area is actually quite large. There are several booths along both walls with a few tables in the middle of the floor. The meal started with a small carafe of salsa and a bowl for each diner. The salsa was very good. Unlike many restaurants, their version was pleasantly chunky and actually had flavor other than tomatoes. Every item that I have tried was very good. Ive had both the steak chimichanga and the standard burrito. The steak chimichanga was basically steak fajitas inside of a fried burrito. I would have preferred it as a standard burrito that wasn't fried, but that option wasn't available to me. Both items were very large and enough for two meals. I think this may become my go-to Westbank Mexican joint. If you are on the Westbank and want good, cheap Mexican food, give Los Panchos a try. read more

I'm from San Antonio, TX and have lived here since 2018. Ever since I moved here I've been on a non-stop search for some great Mexican food that I'm used to finding easily in Texas. I finally found it today. I ordered the Enchiladas Verdes with an Asada & Carnita taco, and my friends got the steak nachos. I got one chicken and one cheese enchilada and they were both perfectly cooked and seasoned. The refried beans were also perfect. Rice was good but a little bland. (Still 5 stars) This place is 20 minutes from where I live across the bridge but I'm more than excited to eat here again and again. It is gamey, so beware. I also recommend the adobada & pastor. Both are marinated pork meats. Adobada tastes sweeter and the pastor is more savory. The bad thing is , it can get quite warm in here during the summer. Could be all the windows facing Terry Parkway that get blasted by the sun or the AC isnt up to snuff. That can make it almost unbearable. They have the good ice for drinks here, and that helps alot when its hot inside. The salsa is the cold but good chunky type in a nice little carafe. The chips look home made. If its a Sunday and near 7pm and all the others are closed, these guys stay open much later. Yep, this place is exactly what the doctor ordered. With a throbbing head, I wandered in and took a seat. It was 10 am so the place was empty. My previous night's exploits required the nutrition that only a breakfast burrito could provide. I was promptly greeted with chips and spicy salsa. Ahhhh, yes. That combined with the gigantic water they provided me began knocking the cobwebs out of the corners of my brain instantly. My breakfast burrito arrived before my first bowl of chips was depleted. As the plate hit my table, I'm pretty sure I heard an angel's harp playing in the background. It was big enough to fill the plate and tasted every bit as delicious as it should have. The eggs, chorizo sausage, and potatoes went straight to work on my hangover curing that strange craving you have the morning after, but can never seem to satisfy. As for the "authenticity" of this Mexican food, well, I don't care. I didn't grow up in Mexico nor am I from Southern California where apparently Mexican food is better than in Mexico. I was really impressed with Los Panchos. I eat at my fair share of Mexican restaurants and Los Panchos was up there with some of the best. I ordered a chicken burrito that came topped with cheese sauce. It was amazing and so good. It was really big and I took my leftovers home and got a second meal out of it. Also, it's worth noting that the free chips and salsa are also really good. The salsa here has flavor and a little bit of spice, which makes it delicious. I have found that other places have salsa that is really bland. I guess they are afraid to give you the spicy stuff, because not everyone likes it, but Los Panchos didn't hold back. They also have yummy Mexican coke with real sugar. It can't be beat! I will definitely go back! So disappointed. The last two times we have eaten here, the food has been really disappointing. The time before this, the shrimp in my shrimp taco salad were hard and dirty. They didn't clean their shrimp and it was like chewing sand. This time the waitress got The Girly's tacos wrong and were underwhelming and tasted off. The chorizo taco also had what felt like sand. Chorizo does not have a rock like crunch. When I cut into my chimichonga, it filled the bottom of my plate with grease. I made it almost halfway through before the grease-burps kicked in. It took so much time to get through because the steak was so tough it took forever to chew up a bite. This was our last trip here...The place just keeps slipping down. Great food not covered up with some kind of cheese sauce, made with fresh ingredients full of flavor and concocted in a hole in the wall place at a great deal served with a smile.
