    Molcajete Menu Description
    Shannon S.

They have some really great dishes on the menu if you look past the usual items wrapped in tortillas. Their Caldo de Res (beef soup) is really great and a huge serving. The Molajete fajita bowl is also another huge serving and it comes sizzling and bubbling hot in an actual volcanic rock bowl which keeps it piping hot and makes for a really nice eating experience. They do have some drink specials here but you do have to monitor the drink strength as it varies depending on who is making them and sometimes they can be on the weak side. I sampled their gigantic huge super sized margarita which is larger than my head but I found it to be EXTREMELY weak so make sure to let your server know if you got "unlucky" in the booze department. I have been here several times and NEVER had bad customer service. Just left and Mercy M was my server and she never checked on me. I had to called her more than once for a to go box and my receipt. When I was getting ready to pay, I told her that she had bad customer service skills because she never checked on me, asked if the food was good, nothing, and she rolled her eyes at me. I asked her name and she looked at me and said nothing. I asked the other employee her name and she looked at Mercy and didn't say anything. I asked for the manager and was told she is gone. So I took a picture of the receipt and than her and she gone say don't take a picture of me you stupid bitxh. The cook started looking and I asked him where was the manager. I proceed to tell him what happened and how she called me a stupid bitxh and he apologized and gave me a card to call the manager. I got her name from the receipt, but I'm going back to talk to the manager in person tomorrow!!!!

I'm not a fan of this place. This was my second visit and I just don't dig the food. The meat is not savory and carne asada is not tender. The barbacoa was okay but I can't say I love the food. The soft white corn shells are tasteless and soggy. I prefer the crunchy shells, which are not authentic Mexican ones but better to me. I'll stick to my own homemade tacos.

Chicken Flautas Lunch (missing guacamole and sour cream)

This review is for a takeout order only. I cannot speak to the atmosphere or customer service of the establishment. I ordered the chicken flautas lunch, which, according to the menu, comes with rice, beans, guacamole salad, and sour cream. My coworker picked up the order, and was told that everything was there. However, they had entirely forgotten the guacamole salad and sour cream. In all fairness, I was not able to give them the opportunity to remedy this, as it wasn't realized until the coworker brought the food back to the office. Unfortunately, the food was also very bland and under-salted. Had it been more flavorful, I might not have missed the missing items. Luckily, there was at least a decent salsa, but overall, it was an underwhelming lunch.

This was decent Mexican food, service was average. Food was average, nothing to write home about. A good place to grad a quick bite.

Los Panchos is the best Mexican food on the Westbank. Located on Terry Parkway near the Roaring 20's bar (check it out, trust me), half of the restaurant was once a Popeye's. Don't let that turn you off because the dining area is actually quite large. There are several booths along both walls with a few tables in the middle of the floor. The meal started with a small carafe of salsa and a bowl for each diner. The salsa was very good. Unlike many restaurants, their version was pleasantly chunky and actually had flavor other than tomatoes. Every item that I have tried was very good. Ive had both the steak chimichanga and the standard burrito. The steak chimichanga was basically steak fajitas inside of a fried burrito. I would have preferred it as a standard burrito that wasn't fried, but that option wasn't available to me. Both items were very large and enough for two meals. I think this may become my go-to Westbank Mexican joint. If you are on the Westbank and want good, cheap Mexican food, give Los Panchos a try.

I'm from San Antonio, TX and have lived here since 2018. Ever since I moved here I've been on a non-stop search for some great Mexican food that I'm used to finding easily in Texas. I finally found it today. I ordered the Enchiladas Verdes with an Asada & Carnita taco, and my friends got the steak nachos. I got one chicken and one cheese enchilada and they were both perfectly cooked and seasoned. The refried beans were also perfect. Rice was good but a little bland. (Still 5 stars) This place is 20 minutes from where I live across the bridge but I'm more than excited to eat here again and again. The horchata was also amazing and you can tell they didn't use the powdered.

This place is nothing to write home about. The food came out EXTREMELY FAST, but when I first walked in the lady in the front sent me to the dinner room only for the hostess to send me right back... Ummmmmmm Miss ask me if it's take out or dine in, please don't just assume. The food is just okay.

Large waiting area to stand and wait near the hostess station. Also has a bar area which looks like first come, first serve. We ordered drinks while we waited and hung out in the lobby area. Finally we were sat. Complimentary chips and salsa were brought right away. We Ordered drinks and the chorizo queso, which came fairly quickly. The queso is HOT, bubbling in a volcanic rock molcajete. Sooo good. Strongly suggest this item! I ordered the Tacos Tijuana (lengua). My husband ordered grilled fish tacos and an ala carte cheese quesadilla. The food was great. Lengua was a little dry- I know it's lean but it was not as juicy and gamey as I like. No other complaints except the guacamole that came with my tacos tasted artificial or "off". It also stayed very green throughout the meal which tells me there is either a lot of lemon or it is premade with something to make it not oxidate like fresh avocados. It was just not great guacamole. The frijoles charro on the other hand were excellent! Lots of flavor, pork, cooked nicely and seasoned well. I could eat that by itself. I will for sure be back.

Clean dining area with lots of natural light. (Yes, this is a thing for me.) Husband had the Crispy Flautas w/chicken, and I went for the Trio Plate with a chicken quesadilla, a pork pupusa and a beef enchilada with the green salsa as recommended by Rosalinda. When the plate came out, I thought I was in heaven! My husband enjoyed his flautas, and I loved what I ordered! I wish I had taken a picture because it was beautiful, but I dove right in. Each item was exactly one person size, so I ate without overeating and didn't feel like I wasted anything. Four stars is simply for the rice and beans being "lackluster," (maybe offer an alternative, like a salad or cup of soup?), and once people started coming in - and they did - service got a bit stretched. Would I go back? Absolutely! Lots of choices to experience. Our meals, 2 sodas and a Corona w/tax before tip was $41.

I called the place right away and whoever answered the phone told me that they had found the money. When I came back the manager told me that no one found anything. So I assumed he took it. After tonight I don't think I am ever coming back to this place. The service was horrible. I waited 35 mins for 2 steak tacos and beans. When it finally arrived the food was cold. (I requested these items first) I also ordered a cheese quesadilla with a side of beans, an order of pupusas and a chimichanga. When I asked if I could have the side of beans, our waitress said to me: what beans? I said the side of beans I ordered with the quesadilla and then she responded with: that's not the type of quesadilla I ordered. I said ok, can I please have a side of beans, then she replied the quesadilla comes with rice and beans already. Alright! Then the waitress asked me if I wanted something to drink I said a sweet tea please. My tea never arrived. After we received our meals, she never came to check on us; after we finished eating 15 mins passed when my husband decided to load the kids in the car. I asked someone else for to go boxes because our waitress was on a cellphone. The hubs went to pump gas in the car and still no sign of the check. I got up and went to the front to try to pay because I needed to go. And no, not impressed with the steak tacos with the chopped meat.

So I ordered the barbacoa tacos. My husband ordered the birria burrito and we got loaded fries with al pastor. Server brought out his beer, but didn't bring a bottle opener. Then she brought out chips and salsa bottles, but no dish to put the salsa in. The wine opener and menus stayed on the table the whole time until I handed them back to her when the food arrived. She also did not bring napkins so we grabbed the paper towel roll off of the bar counter top. She did tell us at the end while we were cashing out that she is new. The food itself was really good! I thought the tacos were excellent- the barbacoa was juicy and seasoned well - perfect little street tacos! My husband enjoyed his burrito- it was solid. I ate the other half for dinner later. The loaded fries were ok. The al pastor meat was the best part. We were already full so ate about half the fries. Overall not a horrible experience because the food was very good. Today I wanted something different and inexpensive. I checked Yelp, saw it was right there, and had to talk myself into it because I eat tacos ALL the time... like I'm lowkey taco'd out. But something about authentic tacos on corn from a lil shack like this? They hit different. So I went with my move. I looked at the menu and saw tongue tacos... and that sold me Mind you, I NEVER had tongue before. But I said I wanted something different, so let's stand on that. Pulled up around lunch--about 3 people waiting. There's an option to call ahead too. I waited a few minutes, but they acknowledged me quick, and you could tell they were working, so I wasn't tripping. Ordered 3 tacos: tongue (of course), shredded beef, and pork. Threw in pupusas because why not--it's been years. And a melon juice. Total was about $29, got my number, waited maybe 8-10 minutes. When they handed me the bag... it had a little weight on it I already knew. I ate in my car since there's no real inside seating, and started with the pork taco. Now listen... pork tacos can be DRY. I don't really order them for that reason. But THIS one?? Juicyyyyy. Like juices-on-my-shirt type juicy (I'm too grown for that ). Flavor was there, shredded perfect--they changed my whole outlook on pork tacos. Then I tasted the other two because they looked similar. First one ended up being the tongue... and babyyyy. Tender. Soft. It reminded me of goat--real rich and flavorful. I can't even believe I tried it, let alone LIKED it. I'm officially sold. The beef was good too, but after that tongue taco? It was hard to compete, I'm not even gonna lie. That red salsa? Flavorful with a kick. I love spice... but spice don't always love me back Still worth it. The melon juice started off a little grainy (you can tell it's real fruit), but once it settled, it smoothed out. Super refreshing. Now them pupusas... I did NOT expect two. That's why the bag felt like that Stuffed with meat and cheese, crispy on the outside, soft inside. Came with the pickled cabbage/carrot mix and that tomato-based sauce--everything worked together. Not spicy, just balanced. Only thing I'd note--no prices listed, but for everything I got (plus that big 32oz drink), it was honestly worth it.
